Bahrain Grand Prix 2012, Sakhir - Race 4/20

3 long straights favour merc in quali. mite be worth a punt on another merc pole.

providing it doesnt get too hot it could be interesting for merc again.

Not a bad shout for pole, I think they are going to ruin their tyres so quick in the heat though. They were lucky it was so cool in China, which aided them a lot imho.

Wouldn't want to race in that heat, and I think the heat could effect merc tyre wear. I'd love to say can we keep chat to just about the race itself rather than the controversies around it, but feel that's probably wishful thinking...

Also times in OP for race. Are they local or GMT? So does race start 13:00 bahrain time or uk time?

kd

Yep they are only two hours ahead, so is nice to be back on 1pm start (12 for qually). The times in OP are always the session start times, in our time :)

Stupendously amazing fact for this race....

We could have the 7th different winner in a row.

India 2011 - Vettel
Abu Dhabi 2011 - Hamilton
Brazil 2011 - Webber
Australia 2012 - Button
Malaysia 2012 - Alonso
China 2012 - Rosberg

Expect the track temp to be in the high 30's and low to mid 40's if the weather temp stays like that.

Certainly will be interesting.

While I realise its only over one lap - Im wondering if the much hotter expected temps will cause Merc's to lose a bit of their advantage in quali

In quali, I can't see it effecting them, it would more likely be race pace that hurts them.

Personally I don't think Rossberg cruising to victory was as much to do with temps keeping tyres going for him as not following a car infront helped them out a lot.

Tyre wear of a car following anyone around has been much worse and frankly when haven't the Merc's been following people around in the past couple years which is part of the reason I think their tyres have been so bad.

Will certainly be interesting if the Merc's either qualify on the front row or get there by the first corner(as both generally start very very well), if we see less tyre problems even with very high temps.

I'm 95% sure that the reason Button has "better tyre wear" than Hamilton in the past couple years, is simply Hamilton spending more time behind other cars, the whole trying to pass Schumi for ages, both of them knackering their tyres, and Button coming along and breezing past as both of them drop pace significantly.

Though even if the Merc's did well out front in hot temps, how much would be being out in front, how much could be them actually fixing the tyre wear, you get the feeling if they can suck less badly on tyres, they could be a very very good car this year.
