Bahrain Grand Prix 2012, Sakhir - Race 4/20

Right, so we are going to be racing in Bahrain.
I am assuming that it is going to be super hot.
So, given this, will Merc be competitive here?
Will McLaren have the best car here?

Whose going to win this one?
Predictions please.

It will be hot (still 30-33c air temp), so if the Mercs are quick then hats off to them for sorting their tyre issues out, but I get the feeling they won't be.

Really hope that's the only incident and FI being there was just unfortunate and a coincidence, but not a great way to start and something doesn't feel right about it all.

It's there comment I find distrustfall. Can be caught up anywhere in the world with riots and petrol bombs. Yeah but most people wouldn't go into a middle of a riot.

Apparently they are sensitive enough that a quick setup change to get more heat into the tyres can buy them half a second, so god knows how much a 20C - 30C temperature difference will make.

i get the feeling these tyre issue is something that wrongly stuck to mercedes.
all season brawn said tyre wear isnt the issue its finding a setup that allows the tyres to work properly and imo it seems to be something every team is finding out.

they apear uber sensitive to temprature and car setup and if on race day the weather is different then unless your lucky it seems as though you can have almost no pace in the race

I think Frank means the start of the race, in which case Button got level with the back of MSCs car but couldn't challenge for the position.

Yes I did mean right at the start (just as the lights went out)

ok fair enough - I thought it was closer than that, but I was only going from memory also:)

(Im at work , so cant see any pics)

Yeah I dont really but this whole 'Merc is harsh on its tyres' theory. All teams/drivers will suffer from bad tyre wear at certain tracks, conditions and setups. I still think Mclaren may have the slightly quicker car overall for racing but if Merc can keep putting it on pole and getting good starts I think they will be able to pull away from the pack and being at the front should be beneficial for reduced tyre wear.

One DRS zone this weekend

Well F1 has raced in plenty of politically sensitive places before (South Africa and Argentina spring to mind but there are others) so no reason to stop this weekend, just hope no one targets the teams...

Still after last weekend this one could maybe be a good race! (without the stupid additional bit from last year)

they never raced anywhere when the country was totally unstable and riots could happen at anytime and f1 beeing there just becomes a massive target

This is going to be fascinating. Berne must be smiling with all the publicity this race is getting. Will miss it not being live though...then again this is usually a borefest.

Read the twitter accounts of the journalists there and you'll see it's a very tense situation for all to be in - especially when they effectively had little shoice but to go when the FIA gave the race the go ahead.

It gets tense when a lift fills with strangers. Anyone could let rip at any moment :)

Theres no evidence of this at all.

There is evidence of small groups of people in random isolated acts of petty violence. There isn't the 100,000 people marches on the capital going on like there were last year.

What would you call it, if not a tyre issue, if they run into troubles at every race because they can't perfectly set up for tyres as the Merc apparently needs to be absolutely perfectly set up to a degree more than any other car? This would be to most people the exact description of a tyre problem.

The biggest issue is, as always their tyres wore out before every other car on the grid, and wore out worse, their pace dropped off worse than everyone elses and as soon as they dropped off everyone could breeze past them because they dropped off the cliff quicker than everyone else. They slid around corners, slid when putting power down, slid when braking and just had to be stupidly slow.

As above, the problem is EVERY race they were worse, their tyres always wore out first, they always looked the most difficult to control car when their tyres were on their way out.

Some cars on the grid had a race here or there where their tyres just didn't work, this was usually extremes, uber hot, uber cold tracks. Yet again it was essentially only Merc who had this problem every race, rain, cold, normal temps or stupid hot. It's not even slightly hard to see they were worse than everyone else.

How many races did Kobe go half a race distance plus, or Di Resta or a couple others, without ever looking as absolutely out of control as the Merc's did?
