Bahrain Grand Prix 2015, Sakhir - Race 4/19

Not sure what that means, every REnault car IIRC was using their third engine this weekend. Meaning after the failures today and the dire performance on a couple of them over the entire weekend(Ver/Kvyat had lack of power all through), they will potentially all be onto their 4th engines for the year in the next race.

Renault are making even Honda look reliable, both Honda's were using the 2nd engine this weekend and might still be using the 2nd engine next race. I'd think at least two Renault cars will be on the 4th in Barcelona.

Thats going to be some punishment for Red Bull for the remainder of the year.

Will be very interesting to see what happens in the off season with Red Bull. Will they join Honda if they try to break the Renault contract? They said Mercedes and Ferrari wont supply them with engines i believe.

Yup, though I said it really wouldn't matter. There are only really two options, Renault fix reliability... so they take an engine and use it for 4-5 races... compared to failing to finish every other race as they are doing now that is a huge improvement. The other option is Renault engines keep failing, and they keep failing in every other race... then who really cares about the penalties.

Reliability improvement + 1 penalty in say every 4 races is still WAY better than where they are at today. Renault utterly screwed up the engine though utterly. Last year was bad, this year is terrible. Honda have made huge errors, but getting worse after the first year is laughable. Though also a warning sign for those who believe Honda can ONLY improve from here... they can and should, but it's more than possible they also bring a crap update in the future and make it worse.

Someone on twitter (I'm not) do an #askcrofty on the first pitstop and whether the team ****** Lewis over by allowing Rosberg to pit first, wiping out his lead and nearly dropping him to third place. Would love to see Wolff asked that one!

I think it's about time Cosworth makes yet another return!

Political nonsense in reality, Ferrari and Merc would welcome more cash. Lauda I believe maybe somewhat tongue in cheek but also somewhat seriously said if Renault/Honda left Merc would happily supply them all with engines and mentioned the years in which it was Cosworth engines in 2 cars and was it Ferrari engines in 20 cars in the past.

RBR don't want that, they want a semi works team status for the same reason Mclaren/Merc/Ferrari do. But ultimately adjusting the car to work with a Merc/Ferrari engine today would have them FAR more competitive than using the Renault engine.

RBR would if given the choice today have the most competitive engine they can get their hands on for next year. The interesting thing will be what their contract situation is with Renault, if they can break it due to frankly dire performance and make a deal with someone else for next year. They may not have expected such a dire problem whenever they last extended the deal.

The way things are going, I don't think any favouritism towards Nico within the team is going to last much longer, he's very clearly the number 2 driver.

Isn't it basically the case that the driver in front gets priority, but if he doesn't want the slot then the other guy can have it. So, if Hamilton had wanted to pit at the same time as Rosberg, he'd've got priority... but as he didn't want to pit on that lap Rosberg's free to do so.

Can't see Lewis allowing Rosberg to pit first at all. I think the team just decided without consulting him.

May I also add the Ferrari pit crew took a dump on the Merc crew, fastest in all the stops.

Yes, but then out of four races they've ended one for Kimi with a bad pit stop where Merc haven't. They also did the same to Vettel but in free practice... so it wasn't a completely isolated incident. Faster but less reliable... well Hamilton and Mclaren know all about that.

And Hamilton had an issue on his stop with a wheelnut/gun/wheel, so if that hadn't happened the gap would have been larger.

That's a very arbitrary rule.

I think it is far more plausible that Mercedes didn't expect Hamilton to lose 1st place and so it was better for the team to pit Rosberg first.

That position is just as correct as anything else anyone might say. They are all arbitrary as to what you prioritise.

If he thinks stopping on that lap is the optimum strategy, he's free to opt to stop then. He obviously didn't. Then Rosberg stopping on a different lap doesn't affect Hamilton's laps, so there's not that reason to limit Rosberg's choice, either.

I guess we'll find out with transcripts whether that happened.

27 point gap is that, after chasing Rosberg the whole year, having a reliability screwup sized gap will be a massive relief I would imagine. With his utter dominance as well, he'll feel confident and relaxed rather than under pressure, somewhat expect his fantastic qualifying will continue as a result of that.

The team decides who stops when and they obviously decided to pit Rosberg first to protect him against Vettel's undercut, nearly ruining Hamilton's race in the process.
