Bahrain Grand Prix 2015, Sakhir - Race 4/19

Brakes maybe didn't fail then, Hamilton said they dropped into a default mode then he flicked a couple of settings and it basically came back to him, so no risk after a few corners but he wasn't pushing incase something happened.

I still feel more like the Canada failure being on the same laps and the brakes here, it's not just a software fault like hits a certain mileage or setting or a something and it resets into a stupid mode.

EDIT:- One of Ricciardo's engines is still available to use, as in one of the three they've opened already is still working but maybe not in tip top condition, two are gone, 1 not used.

-Well controlled by Lewis despite a questionable pit strategy and dodgy stop.
-Vettel was shocking, falling off the track like that and amateur hour moves.
-Loldando
-Lolenault
-Great stops by the ferrari guys
-Decent race by kimi but I think he got lucky with the conditions suiting the tyres more then expected.
-Did Rosberg really have a brake failure? Seems odd to just overrun one corner while coincidentally under pressure.
-Tired of people listing Rosbergs 'great overtakes', vettel fell off the track in front of him and every move was a simple DRS run.
-Button made as much of an impression in the race as usual.

Overall rating. Not bad, saved by the vettel comedy hour and last minute merc brake issues.

Barcelona in 3 weeks time will be interesting, first proper race where teams will bring big upgrades.

There is also talk of Ferrari bringing a big engine upgrade to Canada. Can't wait to see what the season has in store for us, looks promising that's for sure.

I like this guys style, Ferrari on the up for sure.

I like Arrivabene in interviews, he talks well, he seems incredibly likeable though in my personal opinion, as I was watching that I was thinking.... at least one more button on his shirt should be done up, if not two :p

Really like Ferrari I do. Theres a great charisma about the team. Like both drivers and the rest of the guys in the garage etc. would love them to win the wdc this year. looks very promising so far.

And Hamilton and Rosberg hate eachother. Vet and Kimi are great friends and i could see that going towards the detriment of toto wolff... that particular scenario. Love to see his face if ferrari win the constructors... its the title that means 99 percent more to the team than the wdc afterall.

The BBC had a piece on him this weekend, it's quite refreshing to see a team principle who seems so humble and drivers who are working together so well.

Also good to see Ferrari constantly forcing the Mercs into non-ideal stops with the use of the undercut.

It is difficult to judge what impact Arrivabene has made in terms of engineering, Ferrari could be in the same position as they are now regardless of who took over as principal.

I think what you can say is though he has sparked life back into the people at Ferrari, comparing him to Domenicali is like chalk and cheese.

If Mercedes fail to get the WCC it will be Rosbergs head that rolls not Toto's. No team boss can nake a driver drive faster than they are able.

Especially considering merc did everything they could today to keep Rosberg second, giving him the undercut and allowing vettel to eat into hamiltons lead as well was a risky move. The slow stop almost bit them for it.

He's likely had almost no direct influence. The guy whose name I forgot who got replaced afaik was involved in bringing in the two key engine guys, he also was directly involved in calling Alonso's bluff and going behind his back to sign Vettel for the team and basically gave Alonso no choice but to move on. Multiple people in the team say the atmosphere has improved and everyone is happier about it.

So I think the last guy put most of the pieces in place, main reason Arrivabene as brought in was honestly Bernie. He is a friend of Bernie, has worked with him for years and knows how to deal with him while the last guy had a adversarial relationship with Bernie... which is not good for getting the best out of negotiations for your team.

They did it in the 80's as well, or early 90's, forget which. They fired a team principle who was failing, had a outspoken driver who was publicly criticising the car/team. They fired the team principle for not making a good enough car then brought in a guy for the rest of the year who pushed out the driver, made some big changes, but then he was replaced at the end of the year with someone who they saw as a more long term leader with relationships with key people up and down the grid and Bernie/others.

Basically Ferrari on both occasions brought someone to clean house, take all the heat you get when firing people's friends and bringing in outsiders. Then get rid of that guy and bring in a friendly, charismatic leader who also has long relationships with the key players in F1 for the influence that brings.

One guy to bring in the right people, a different nicer guy to coax the best out of them.

The extra hundred million ferrari has dumped into the engine department has probably helped a bit too!

I think it's just 100mil more for the team in general, I think that has been spread around quite a bit.

WHAT? They had problems with Hamilton's wheel nut, that's why Rosberg\vettel was closer.

Have you got selective viewing syndrome?

Now we have to wait 3 weeks :(

There is this thing in motorracing called the 'undercut' where the cars that pit first get an early lap on a faster tyre allowing them to gain, in this case around 1.5 to 2s a lap on those who pit after. Most teams pit the driver who is ahead first to secure the higher value place, merc didn't this time which with a slow stop knocked about 4.5/5s off his lead.

Don't worry! Keep watching races and you will get the jist of them eventually!
