But the MGU-H also works like a waste gate, so when it fails the turbo itself looses power. The ecu will then reduce fueling to counteract the reduced air going into the engine as the turbo is working less efficiently

The turbo wasn't broken. If it had he would have been driving a 1.6L engine with no forced induction.

The harvesting was broken and so wasn't charging the battery.

Vettel really being shown up in recent years.

He is making far too many mistakes.

There is no doubt he is quick, but when it comes to racing when he doesn't have the fastest car by far....hm.

They could replace vettel with Schumacher or even Hamilton

I still believe Hamilton will end up at ferrari before he retires

I think Hamilton likes to be mentally balanced and happy to give his best in the race. I think Mercedes give him that, whereas all the backbiting and chaos at Ferrari will make him unhappy and Hamilton will not do so well there. Hamilton left McLaren in part because of the restrictions and confines they imposed on him, and he doesn't want that.

And what driver has ever left at team that is giving him a fast, race-winning car? As long as Hamilton is still winning races and championships, he will want to stay at Mercedes, and Mercedes will do everything they can to keep one of the great drivers out there in one of their cars.

As I said the MGU-H also acts like a waste gate

You try driving any turbo car with waste gate that's not working properly you loose turbo power, not all of it, but plenty

I think he wasn't saying it was broken but that because the MGU-H usually is used to control RPM of the turbo and then that is used in ERS that it would be working less efficiently as blowing through a normal wastegate. Regardless I think the point is that Leclerc probably had to turn up the ICE to compensate for loss of BHP and coupled with the loss of efficiency of the turbo resulted in him being on the edge for fuel.

I think some Merc fans are trying to find something to pin it on, cooling wasn't the issue and neither was fuel consumption. Leclerc had potentially a normal failure it can happen and Seb drove rubbish. Put Ham in Vettel's ferrari and I think he or Charles would have won.
