ive just started re-playing this again.
remember folk, use the eniroment to your advantage..
im not really very far through at the moment just after the crash, and went through the chapel with the skeletin dude.
i must remember to keep my nose out of things im not prepared for or want to deal with later..

Similar, I got to the fire Diablo like creature just passed the shadow lands about a year back (act 2 I believe). I did enjoy but didn't think it compared to the D&D games of yesteryear (Planscape torment I still ranked as the best game ever). Might go back to it.
It's a common issue - I think it's a combination of the overwhelming/cluttered approach to the city, lots of overlapping quests, no real "direction" at that point and the fact that many have already capped at lvl12 means the motivation drops off. Add on that many are already at 100+ hours at that point as well, so novelty starts to wane.
I'll also say that Act3 feels the least complete, and evidence of cut content with some things not really reaching a conclusion.
I mean, I'll context this by saying I absolutely love BG3. Played it through 3 times, and it still amazes me with it's scope sometimes, but I'm still aware of it's weaknesses.
Someone got it for my for Christmas too and I’m similar in terms of not being that into the genre. Gonna finish Chrono Trigger though and crack on. Let the Christmas gaming commence!

its a really good game, if you enjoy DOS2 then you'll enjoy BG3 very similar in many regards, in that they offer you multiple ways to approach something and lots of environment details as well.
the chapel i mentioned had 3 routes to get inside if you were prepared to use them.
lots of little details like, "yes you can pick up that fish at a stall" but its owned by some one and you can find your self in a fight pretty quickly.
admittedly i didnt get far with DOS2. remember you can also multiplayer with it up to 4 total
i am finding the spell system in BG3 a bit irritating, why cant i just blast away with my spells!! (stupid spell slots
)i cant actually remember if DOS2 had the same limitation but does make you think a bit more tactically.
I've attempted getting into this game on two separate occasions now and it's frustrating to say the least!
In-between the turn based combat and dice rolls (and my entire party dying) it really comes across as much more a game of luck than actual skill.

I'm on my 3rd attempt to get into the game name, the combat is a lot to take in. In other games you're likely more powerful than the majority of the enemies you face and can mow them down, in BG3 that doesn't feel like the case, certainly not early on, the power comes from the makeup of your party and their combined talents so you need to go into combat and work out what you're facing and the best way to defeat them. Rarely can you go in and just blast them down, typically you need to use positioning and the right skills.
Maybe that's a case of a caster waiting in cover, coming out to use a ranged spell and then moving back into cover, maybe it's looking for elevation to give you an advantage on an enemy or maybe making sure your melee class is positioned so that if an enemy tries to rush past you get a free swing. Or maybe there's a way to use the environment or combine skills from your party. Have someone that can cast grease to make enemies full down slowing their advance, well that grease can also be flammable and set alight. Or maybe you need to combat all together and deescalate a potential foe.
Basically the game gives you a lot of ways to play, an overwhelming amount as you start out but as you progress a little further it starts to make more sense and becomes a little easier to play.

you sound like you dont have any experience with this type of game or DnD.
Dont give up
Make sure you are on Normal difficulty, use the environment throwing grease bottles on choke points, or at a couple of enemies can allow you to attack from range safely or standing at the edge melee attack with advantage. Focus fire on a single attacker until dead, sleep spell is an excellent early game crowd control. Rest often to recharge abilities. Dont hoard consumables, they are there to be used and can be bought from vendors whose supply restocks after you rest a time or two.

check whats around you in the enviroment, i made a similar mistake at the chapel, i died 3 or 4 times a a time wipe untill i approached it a way and stopped to look around.. "there! whats that! a Barrel you say.. hmmm i wonder what happens if i shoot it..." *boom* "ow ok ive now halfed Their numbers good to know.. WHY didnt i do that sooner!"
also worth check what skills your party actually has including spells. as example the : Command
spell could be very usfull in combat
grease bottles then fire bolt can go a long way
wet + elecrric
there is a lot of depth to the game.
dont be affraid to explore, look for ingrediants and use the search skill
if you feel like trying multi player i might be up for that if its weekends. always good to bounce of others, but im pretty crap at these types of games
Hey - I’m fairly new to this game and think I may have encountered a bug.
One of my party got sent to jail (in emerald grove)… I then selected that character and moved around a bit, rejoined their group etc… then later found out they had no weapons or items. I went back to the jail and their kit isn’t in the boxes in the jail… which is where the internet tells me I should be. Is this a bug?

Agreed with the updates. Was one of the reasons i now buy from GOG instead.
The amount of times an update would ruin my heaivly modded city skylines build.
The same can be said for native instruments komplete control. Where opening an old project would result in missing instruments.
Stopped using that as well
Windows is next.
Really must get back around to trying BG3 again once I’ve finished GoT.
I’ve tried it twice now and only got about an hour into the game both times before switching it off and saying I’ll come back to it.
Mind you, W3 was the same for me and then it clicked and turned into one of my favourite games ever.
Any essential mods for BG3 or just play it vanilla and persist?
