I have been through 4 sets of Ballistix Pc4000 so i know your frustrations all too well. First 2 sets were the 2.5,4,4,8 stuff, then i got sent a pair of single sided 3,4,4,8 sticks,

Sorry to drag this back up. Am I right in thinking you're saying that there are two versions of the 512mb sticks doing the rounds, one cas 2.5 and one cas3? I ask as I can't work out why the SPD on mine is 3, yet the site is saying 2.5.

Cheers

oh dear looks like loads of other people have been hving problems :(
OCUK need to start refunding our money, instead of making us rma and get more crap sticks in return.

will crucial refund you so you can buy another (better!!!) brand ? since i dont want 3200 cas3 or more crappy ballistix

all my ram was brought direct.

they refused to RMA my PC3200s the 3rd time... But my latest set of PC4000 seems ok.... touch wood. Running it at 2.65volts and its still VERY warm to touch.....thats WITH active cooling. I miss not being able to close my case :(

I cant decide if mine's starting to get iffy or if I changed something last week anc have forgotton ! Thought mine ran tighter timings than it now needs.

How old are they Ol!ver? What ones you got? It seems totaly limited to the higher end, higher density chips, like single sided 512mb chips, or the 1gig double sided ones.... double sided 512mb (lower density) seems fine..... on the most part

thats it this is far too common now. crucial ballistix is by far the most unreliable performance ram to get. best make this sticky or something so people stop buying ballistix untill its sorted out.

saying this the ballistix stick i have, a single pc3200 512mb stick has been running fine at its stock speeds for over a year now.

my ballistix's have always made a "buzzing" or "sizzling" noise when under load..... (loading games etc) which is strange

the one i have has always been burning hot at the default settings, theyre single sided 512 sticks. my dad had em first and his pc always BSOD him so after finding em faulty we rmad them and then i got em for my pc and they give stupid errors and were failing memtest, these ones were new, deliverd end of november.

so crucial refused your rma? why didnt u kick up a fuss, they must know all their ballistix is utter ****

I've had my replacement 2GB Ballistix kit in since the 5th Dec(my previous set lasted 6 weeks ) These sticks are definatly running cooler than any other sets i've had & i've had 4 in total

I have no active cooling on them just now & the are warm to the touch ,running @ 250 8-4-4-3 1T.The previous sticks were much hotter than these. So let's hope it's all been sorted out now folks

Had my replacements in for a while now too.
Today, after running them well below specs I decided to see if they would run at anything near their spec.

Ended up with them at 274Mhz 3-7-3-3-T2 2.7V in the Asrock 939 Dual SATAII. The bios I'm using will not overclock above 274Mhz. A day or two of testing is in order I think.

Do you happen to have the batch numbers for the sticks that have died??

I RMA'ed a 1GB stick around 3 months ago, now the second stick from the 2*1GB kit seems to have gone bad.
My suspect stick is from batch CL1115J.TQ

all my latest chips to die was CL1115x.xx but then i think all the latest are CL1115 so its hard to tell....

im not sure what my first set was, but they lasted about 9months... unlike my other ones which seemed to last only 2-3months

Cheers for the reply.

Stick definetly gone. Won't even boot with it in now.
Excatly the same problem I had with the first one.

That's the last time I'll be using Ballistix. I was always under the impression that this stuff was the best available.
I haven't even overclocked it yet, always run 2.8v & 250mhz. Even when it was new, it wouldn't boot with less than 2.8v.
Would never run 1T either.

Looks like ive got to send some back for my dad. Do they offer an advance RMA? We can supply them with credit card details if need be.

When I had to send one of my sticks back, Crucial RMA'ed it in 4 days.
I posted the dead stick Monday afternoon, received my replacement on Thursday morning.

I will give them that, there RMA service is very good. Pity there quality has gone out the window.

As for advand RMA, ask them when you phone for an RMA number I think they do but I never enquired about it,
as I only sent one stick back as the other was ok. Pity, as the second stick is now dead :(

Hmm if only i had found this thread a few days ago  i have ordered 2gb of ballistix ah well fingers crossed it will be ok if not i am at least glad to see they have a decent rma service if nothing else.

Are crucial so good with their RMA service when the sticks were bought from OCUK? Nothing on the site about returning stuff not bought from them.

Got mine today and installed them all working so far fingers crossed they stay that way.

Mine are 1116??? So hopefully any gremlins from the prvious batch have been eliminated.

Mmmmm, 1116's. First I've heard of those. Hopefully the problems with some of the 1115's will now be gone.
