BARGAIN - OcUK 24" with DVI (*VA Panel) for £179.99+VAT (This Week Only Deal!!)

Damn forgot about those cheers!

I am THIS CLOSE to buying one :S I just need that little push over the edge now to go for it - can someone with an nvidia card test the nvidia aspect ratio scaling? I use "nvidia scaling with fixed aspect ratio" or have I missed the spec info and this screen does in fact support 1:1 mapping ?

I believe others have stated that games run fine, even at the high resolution required for this monitor, using a 8800GT video card. However, if you feel that the frame rate is too low, you can always run the monitor at 1680x1050, to play games. At this resolution, games still look pretty good. In fact, somebody earlier in this thread stated that they forgot to change the res back to native res and played using 1680x1050, without even realising.

Uh huh, that was me :o Didn't really notice that many jaggies or things looking too in your face, but I do sit about 2 feet back away from the screen.

Still looks great though :) I wub this monitor.

A 1366x768 LCD is too low resolution to use it as a monitor, although fine for gaming.

True, although the one he's after is a 1080p.

I used a Samsung 26" LCD at 1360x768 (or whatever it is) for a while, and it was fun playing games on a big screen. But the text was a little blurry and I think it hurt my eyes after a while, I eventually sold it for 2 Dell 2007WFPs because I needed the res really.

I seem to be having issues with HD stuff....It may very well be codec's or players themselves, but it is irritating.

When watching 720p through VLC in fast moving sections it seems to miss out frames and there is obvious tearing - What's going on?

That would be codec based.

I assume you are watching Quicktime HD trailers or movies encoded in h264 or x264 ?
If this is the case I would highly recommend putting VLC aside for the moment and having a go with QTLite, a newer repackage of Quicktime Alternative (now deceased).

It has updated CoreAVC decoders which are stunningly fast and you should also install the separate CoreAAC audio decoder which will decode audio more accurately.

With QTLITE you just have to rename HD .mov videos to .hdmov and Haali Media Splitter will do the rest with QTLite.

Will definietly order one if price is reduced back to the original post, 1680x1050 isn't enough anymore, usually have a video open whilst browsing. Probably have dual screen too.

That's awesome - Thank You mrk! 90% of the HD stuff I have is in h264 or x264, so you're spot on there. Do you have a link for he separate CoreAAC audio decoder? And do I have to do a separate install for Haali Media Splitter?

EDIT - Also, would you reccomend the above for Vista x64?

Cheers

Iam after some HD content aswell, Dean where did you get your from?

If you downloaded a 1080p file and you own the monitor talked about in this thread, then it shouldnt be pixelated at all. It should be nigh on perfect.

Myself, I use Media Player Classic, together with ffdshow filter (though for 1080p material, even bog standard windows media player should be fine as little tweaking is required to view 1080p material at its best).

No problems, the CoreAAC decoder can be downloaded from here and yes it should all work fine on Vista64 (not heard of any issues though I'm on Vista32)

Remember to uninstall Apple QuickTime before installing QTLite ! Haali media splitter is a part of QTLite, it will simply load and close itself when needed and done. You'll simply see an icon in the systray.

I use QTLite, CoreAAC and have FFDSHOW to handle .mov streams that QTlite doesn't autoload. The FFDSHOW video decoder settings I use are in this exported regfile simply merge (double click) after installing FFDSHOW and all should be good.

With this setup I can play any file in MPC or WMP and either FFDSHOW or CoreAVC/AAC will decode them and can be controlled through Haali Media Splitter when playing.

Apple.com trailers has all the HD videos you need :)
