BARGAIN - OcUK 24" with DVI (*VA Panel) for £179.99+VAT (This Week Only Deal!!)

It uses A VA panel, it has 3yrs on-site warranty, and you have a full week to test it thoroughly before deciding if you want to send it back. All for half the price or any other VA panel. Where's the risk? :D

When you put it that way, there is very little risk (apart from the hassle of unpacking, packing, posting the TFT back, if not wanted).

Can Gibbo clear this up: If we purchase this monitor, say, can we try it out and if not happy with it, return it within 7 days? Do ocuk allow this?

AGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Im Temped as all them pics at angles look good , but I prefer my 22" CRT for Gaming. :(

Same here dude.

I'm using a 19" Sony CRT on which I can use any resolution with no problem. With TFT, I will be limited to using a single res (for optimum image quality).

I've heard so many stories about how TFTs are inferior to CRTs. I'm tempted, but I dont want to be "upgrading" to a TFT that has poor image quality in comparison to my Sony CRT, albeit on a larger screen.

They have no choice, it's called the distance selling act (DSA) and it affects all online stores, i'm surprised you don't know what it is http://www.dti.gov.uk/consumers/buying-selling/distance-selling/index.html

Distance Selling Regulations give protection to consumers who shop by phone, mail order, via the Internet or digital TV: The protection includes:

• The right to receive clear information about goods and services before deciding to buy;
• Confirmation of this information in writing;
• A cooling off period of seven working days in which the consumer can withdraw from the contract;
• Protection from credit card fraud.

LOL. I had this discussion with someone a few days ago. A conclusion was not reached.

The Distance Selling Regulations state that you have 7 days to recieve and inspect the item. It DOES NOT state that you can open up the item, use it for all its worth, then on the 6th day, send the item back. As you may imagine, this policy would become open to some serious abuse if it were the case that you could use and abuse the item for 6 days before returning it.

The item should be returned in resaleable condition, unopened and in the original packaging so that it may be resold to another customer. If you decide to open up the item and use it, you may be charged a re-stocking fee. This allows the seller to sell the item as a B-Grade product, at a reduced price and still not make a loss on the item.

I must stipulate though, that some shops, in the name of customer service, will allow you to return an item that has been used, ie. they offer the 'try before you commit to buying the item' policy.

The question is, what is OCUK's stance on this?

With a perfectly good monitor, no way my friend. I think i'l pair it with a spare A64 based unit i have lying around.
Its the same size as most 21" (CRT) TVs and I just didn't have the space for it anymore. I'm just gutted I didn't think about throwing it out of the window; that would've been cool!

Go on, you know you want to.:D

I did not like my 46" HDTV over my old Mitsubishi 29", apart from HD Feeds were nice on my Cable Box and banding issues+PSU noise on Sharps so got rid of it under the DSA.

Also the quality on any LCD screen would not be near what I see now esp 16bit colour, and even with 6ms claimed speeds it wont be as smooth.

I was not buying as of price, it has little to do with price but quality for me as it sure looks a good screen even from on this page where you cant see it as good as real life.

Ive waited this long I can wait and see what improves in short term future.

And you should not smash up your CRT's, give it to someone less fortunate.

Hi there

I am not 100% sure on this kind of stuff as I don't get involved in the actual T&C's etc. etc.

What I will say is that if any forum member purchases this monitor on the weekend special, then feel free to use it but if your only going to trail period it then leave the protective films in place and don't lock the stand in place. Keep the packaging and accessories in good condition and the monitor too and if your not happy with it then feel free to send it back to OcUK within the DSA period.

If you however take it out of the box, destroy the packaging, damage the panel or loose the accessories or any of the latter three, then we obviously won't accept it back. However if you do take care of the product and send it back in the same condition as you recieved it then we would have no issues taking it back under the 7 day DSA period.

It was quite dodgy by the time I smashed it up. You'd have to whack it quite often to stop the picture from buzzing like its got interference; would drive me nuts. It was quite worthless.

Gibbo,

I want to order the following graphics card along with this monitor:

EVGA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB Superclocked "Crysis Edition" GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (512-P2-E802-AR-CrysisUK)
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-041-EA

I've heard it has been delayed a number of times coming into stock and these problems could continue. If another card comes into stock that I want, will I be able to amend my order and keep the low price on this monitor?

Common sense needs to be applied, obviously if you try to return something that isn't in the same condition you bought it then that is completely unreasonable... however to me that's just common sense, I didn't think it was worthy of mentioning.

Exactly how it should be, when testing any product i leave it as packaged as i possibly can, I never take off anything sticky form it until I know it's a keeper.

OK. Now I'm tempted.

Hi there

Don't order EVGA, they are giving terrible communication and service at the moment in regard to 8800 GT's.

We have very large volume of BFG 8800 GT OC and OC2 in stock Monday. Also PNY and Gainward should show up Monday as well. :)

I have also done some further research. Seems this specific monitor is present in Europe with at least 3 different brands: DGA (GB), Yuraku (DE) and IOLAIR (FR). The also mentioned iisonic IIM24WB is similar, but not identical (that's the unit with VGA-only input, no speakers, which nevertheless is more expensive). None of these brand names represent the OEM, which certainly is an unknown factory in CN. All of them are covered by a 3 years on-site warranty, and they all seem to come with a HDMI/DVI-cable.

They all look the same, and have identical technical data, although specs show 800:1 vs. 1000:1, 8 ms vs. 6 ms, and 300 cd/m2 vs. 500 cs/m2 (but I guess this is due to insufficient info from the OEM, so I am pretty sure there is only one set of values valid for this product).

Due to the stated viewing angle of 180°, and because Yuraku only specifies AUO as panel manufacturer, best guess is a P-MVA panel-type, most likely the same used by Benq in their FP241W.

Another indicator is the specified max. power consumption of less than 65 Watt, which may suggest, that this one is the latest version of panel type, and that 300 cd/m2 rather is the matching value.

Gibbo, is it specifically mentioned anywhere in the enclosed documents, that the DGA has 1000:1, 6 ms and 500 cd/m2?

BTW OcUK has actually the best price on that item, and I'd order from them as well, if it wasn't for the high transport costs to Austria.

Gibbo -

On page 6 (the page you took the images) You wanted someone to upload the images rather than use image shack, I have done that and uploaded them to my website, if you still want a host, otherwise I can remove em :P

Chances on the EVGA coming into stock on the 30th? I am interested in the EVGA in particular as I would otherwise have to buy Crysis separately (£25). The equivalent BFG card is only £6 cheaper so I save £19 by getting the EVGA card. I don't mind waiting a little while, I just want to know that if it goes really pear shaped (i.e. no stock by early Dec) then I have the option of amending my order without loosing the special price on this monitor. Hope that makes sense!

hmmm i just reading through the manual and this version has a light sensor at the top of the monitor, what this does i dont know, i think it ajusts the brightness etc in diff lighting situations.
