BARGAIN - OcUK 24" with DVI (*VA Panel) for £179.99+VAT (This Week Only Deal!!)

Best way to check would be turn the screen off and look at your reflection, if it's clear and easy to see that's a glossy panel and therefore TN. Matt screens don't reflect nearly as much. The other way is look at the screen from say 30 degrees above and below and check for the screen going pale/dark which TNs do dramatically.

I thought the glossy screens were the *VA panels?
Nope, shiny = TN. Btw we're talking about the screen itself not the surrounds. This shows how obvious the difference is for anyone who is still not sure. See the left PVA screen doesn't produce a clear reflection? -

Not my pictures btw, hope the people who took them don't mind. They are both from this thread.

can anyone recommend me a good graphics card which can run this monitor at 1900 x 1200 resolution without juddering and stuff?
I will NOT be gaming though!

Needs to be AGP and ideally passively cooled or quiet running.......

Most cheapo video cards will do fine, if desktop use is all you require it for. In fact, if you motherboard has a video chip on it, then that will probably do. You really only need to be careful when buying a video card if you are thinking about gaming.

Also, on the desktop, its highly unlikely you will get judder (due to low frame rate), if you buy any modern day video card.

Ive tested this monitor on 2 video cards: ATI 2600PRO & Nvidia 7900GS. No problems in desktop use.

For AGP: try to look for ATI 2400PRO AGP. Thats likely to be the cheapest. OCUK are out of stock, but there are many other retailers that do have it in stock.

Awwww pants, I got mine today.

Its a TN one though, its as glossy as a screen could possibly be and the viewing angles on the left\right are actually very good, although the screen does suddenly look very orange from the sides but no "inverted" colours as you'd expect.

However up\down angles are an utter disgrace totally inverted and all round horrible.

Also 1 dead pixel smack bang in the middle, well not dead I wouldn't mind that but stuck in the "on" possition, sorta yellow\green colour....

oh well RMA time tomorrow then I guess....

I do like the glossyness of it though if I'm honest, definately better than matte if you ask me.

Ok, now that's interesting. I've RMA'd my monitor, because it's a TN panel. However, it's not glossy like that reflection. In fact, it looks like the matte one.

Weird...

Hmmmm, whats the deal on these "glossy" screens?

Do you guys like the glossy glass like look?

I sure as hell do, feel like I could put me hand inside and pick up a piece of fruit.

Or am I a misguided fool?

Just compared to me old 22 inch LCD that was very matte like this is so much juicier....Even if the side effect of this is crap greys etc....at least the blacks look BLACK!!!

Weird indeed, although that glossy picture is taken right next to a window which is gonna make it look more reflective. Or it could be that the panel type and finish aren't tied together. Did you get the whole inverted/pale colours thing when looking from above/below?

Always going to be a personal thing. Glossy screens look great most of the time, but if you have a light source behind you or a window nearby, the reflection is easily visible. Take a look at the shot of the TN panel above and imagine you were sat next to that window trying to watch a dark movie, all you would see would be the reflection. Personally I find matt screens more useable.

My acer screen has a glossy panel and i hate it.

Slightest bit of sunlight and all you can see in it is yourself, not the movie im trying to watch

I thought these are meant to be good screens, so why so many complaints? :s
For example Rambo sent his panel back because it had a glossy panel?
What the heck?
