BARGAIN - OcUK 24" with DVI (*VA Panel) for £179.99+VAT (This Week Only Deal!!)

It may when/if they fully implement it so you need it to watch your HD Movies legally (its a license paid my manu of Monitor and GPU, so you also).

Can still use analogue and avoid it.

HDMI will never fully take of on GPU's/Montors cause thats all set up for Display Port.

If you happened to want to connect the monitor to a Playstation 3 (DVI - HDMI), lack of HDCP would be an issue as, as far as I know, you would not be able to view any content from the PS3 whatsoever.

ah right cool, if i was to buy one then it would be for pc/gaming use really

so you couldnt watch movies off the pc with it or is it just external devices like ps3 or 360 etc

I see on the website that they have two versions of the OCUK 24" monitors - one with a TN panel and a VA panel. Apart from the viewing angle and glare, is there any difference in the panel screen quality?

I believe that the colour pallette on the VA model is greater. The overall quality is higher on the VA, so it is worth going for it, unless you really do like the shiny surface of the TN, in which case save your money and get the TN.

Dont underestimate the viewing angle problem though. Take a look at the pictures taken by Rambo which illustrate just how much the image quality drops off on the TN panel, when the viewing angle changes.

I've just looked and there is only one version of the 24" monitor on the site. It claims to be a VA panel and to be glossy black. Miles and miles back on this thread someone claims the glossy ones are TN film not VA and it seems some of these have been swapped out by OCUK.

I have one of the glossy ones and it doesn't manage the 180 - 180 veiwing angle so I suppose it is a TN film one. To be fair, it looks very impressive and as I was using it into a corner the viewing angle was not an issue. I only started to notice this when I passed it to my wife and put in on a shelf of her desk. Sitting the, and looking up at the monitor opnme could see the darker top quarter of the screen.

The best advice is to make sure what you are sent is a VA panel as described and to RMA a TNfilm one if you are sent one.

This is why people get confused. The FRAME is glossy black, even on the VA one. Always has been, since it was released. You are confusing the frame with the actual screen. As far as I am aware, none of the VA panels have a glossy SCREEN, but they all have a glossy FRAME.

;)

Thanks for that, Countcussy! I have been quite confused with the whole thing. My monitor is glossy all over, screen as well and is a good mirror when switched off.

The good news is the OCUK have just emailed me to ask to a pick up date to swap it out! That seems to sort things. It also shows that it pays to buy from a godd supplier !

No probs. ;) I had a good look at the HP2207 before i bought the OC one as the purple shirt brigade had a good deal on. The glossy screen put me off. Its a personal thing though.

Good luck sorting it out.

Hi

You can read the model number of the panel directly in the service/hidden menu of the MB24W:
just press buttons "menu" and "+" simultaneously (if you can't, keep pressing "menu" then press "+").

M240UW01 (V0/V3) = MVA panel
M240UW04 = TN panel

MB24W comes from Nits Technology, www.nits.com.tw

You can find more infos about the MB24W clones (Nitstek, DGM, Iolair, Yuraku, Novita, IISonic, Starlogic...) in this thread of a french forum:

and this a pdf describing the V3 panel:

Thanks for the advice. I did what you said and came up with

LG-LM240WU3-TLA1 (There may be another digitafter the '0' but I can't get it to do it again.)

That's not quite like your codes, Kikifr, any ideas from it?

Thanks for any help.

From memory I believe the LM240WU3 is a LG PHILIPS TN panel

well just rang up OCuk to see progress of my replacement and was told that the system was down yesterday so it will get processed today and hopefully delivered tomorrow :(

It sounds like a lot of TN panels are still being sent out - any work from OcUK why this is happening? Was the contaminated stock more than 50 units?

typical , i actually get the money together to buy 1 but when i click on the advert on the top right at £179.99 = vat and it shows at £199 = vat .... guess its off special :( ... ohh well it might come back on again soon hopefully
