BARGAIN - OcUK 24" with DVI (*VA Panel) for £179.99+VAT (This Week Only Deal!!)

Yep: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=11221244&postcount=2513

This makes me wonder if the glossy screen isn't even related to TN panels...
I'm not 100% sure that's not a PVA. The last shot from below is holding it's colour far better than the TN on my laptop here. My laptop screen, all the colours invert at about 10 degrees below. Don't take the 180/180 viewing angles literally, even a CRT doesn't have 180 degree viewing angles. The angle quoted is usually something like where the brightness drops to 1/10th of that from head on.

Did you send it back and did they send you a screen with better viewing angles?

I'm not 100% sure that's not a PVA.

If you compare the screenshots posted by Rambo and those posted by Gibbo, you will see there is a MASSIVE difference in viewing angles. In any case, Rambo was right to return it as the monitor failed to the provide the performance that was promised, as shown in the pictures by Gibbo, who works for OCUK.

Hmmmm, whats the deal on these "glossy" screens?

Do you guys like the glossy glass like look?

I sure as hell do, feel like I could put me hand inside and pick up a piece of fruit.

Or am I a misguided fool?

Just compared to me old 22 inch LCD that was very matte like this is so much juicier....Even if the side effect of this is crap greys etc....at least the blacks look BLACK!!!

If you like the glossy black screens then go for it. You will have the added benefit of paying less for what you like. Unfortunately, a lot of us prefer the matt finish, a privilege that we must pay for.

Whats the point in buying items that other people like, but you hate?

Im another who got a TN panel :( OCUK are coming to collect it today, and hopefully I will get a PVA panel soon.

I do like the glossyness, when its stiched off :P and as most people have said the vertical viewing angles were poor on the TN panel.

I'm now a bit concerned - I thought OcUK had removed all the contaminated stock? Why are people still being sent out TN panels? Mine is due to be delivered today!

Thats the first time I've heard someone liking a monitor based on how it performs when it is switched off.

If you really want to be impressed you can buy some big screens that have died and fail to switch on, for very little money, on auction sites. :p

Oh dear, there seem to be some bad ones out there. I have just moved mine onto my wife's desk so now need another 24". I was going to just order another one but now I am wondering.

The one I have is the glossy sort. I assumed it as a *VA panel as Gibbo sauid they were and because of the viewing angles etc. however, the monitor is now a bit high on my wife's desk and looking to the top of the monitor - it's looking up - the colour darkens for about the top quarter of the screen. Would that indicate a TN panel? Having it lower on my desk I did not notice any colour change and thought the scrteen rather good - clear sharp text - good performance in games, well a quick go of San Aandreas and Flat out 2.

Is this still the best bet here or should one spend a bit more for a better product? I looked at the cheaper Dell but that is a TN panel. Is the Dell 2408 the next stage up in quality of panel? Wuth the various [problems above I am just not sure.

Yeah, just had a look at Gibbos pictures (they on about page 5 of this thread if anyone wants to see them) and you're quite right. There's a shot from about 70 degrees below and the colours aren't inverted at all, just a little faded. Looks like Rambo had a shiny TN then which is bad news because clearly the matt/glossy screen and the panel type aren't related.

Gibbo said the shiny screens were TN -
Gibbo said:
All the models are now labelled L2442WD however as we've discovered from people RMA'ing items back we've been shipped about 50 units that are actually TN based with a glossy screen.
Just get it swapped for a PVA, it's what you paid for.

Why are people still getting contaminated stock?
Wasnt this problem adressed by OCuk early last week (as per Gibbo's comments a few pages back) ????

Thats rather worrying.

Mine was picked up yesterday and im now waiting for a replacement. Hope i dont get another TN panel...

Received mine yesterday, plugged in factory defaults and screen is absolutely superb. No dead pixels, huge upgrade from 19" from what I can see judging by other people the screen does not have that reflective finish like fish99 posted. There is also no change when viewing from various angles.
Considering the few instances with bad monitors I was extremely worried i'd have an RMA on my hands but so far thrilled with it!

You had me worried there with your earlier post. I'm sure it's a TN; all the colours darken when moving my head alignment down. When you get to about 45 degrees the colour begins to invert. This is nothing like Gibbo's post - where he clearly has it at a much sharper angle than mine (with hardly any difference!).

Anyway, it's making me think how many people think they have a *VA panel when really it's a TN panel. The model number behind the vent says M240UW04 v0 which matches the TN model posted here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10728496&postcount=1820

The guy on the phone explained to me that their RMA system is down, so only the webnote system is being used at the minute. It's annoying since they still haven't gotten back to me with a date saying when they are going to come and pick it up.

>.<

True, I love the glossy coating. Just not the viewing angles....lol I had a terrible time with me old 22 inch when watching in bed with the bed being lower than the screen looked horrendus....

Oh well, I've just got in and can't really face a call to ocuk to explain it all now so think ill do it online if poss :)

Hi Guys,

Would appreciate your opinion. The picture below is from a black screen in a movie. Are the levels of backlight bleed in the corners normal? (it's actually a tad worse than the screenshot, as the top/bottom right have a slightly bigger gradient fade than the camera picked up)

I love the monitor and when in windows/gaming etc hardly ever notice it, but whenever i watch a movie the light can be see in the black borders in all 4 corners. Is this the cost of such a cheap monitor or should i get a replacement.

Thanks a lot for your help

That's unacceptable and I would RMA it straight away.

I see on the website that they have two versions of the OCUK 24" monitors - one with a TN panel and a VA panel. Apart from the viewing angle and glare, is there any difference in the panel screen quality?
