BARGAIN - OcUK 24" with DVI (*VA Panel) for £179.99+VAT (This Week Only Deal!!)

Should I swap my Samsung 245B with one of these? The backlight has started to become uneven after a couple of weeks, with a large lighter stripe. Top of the screen is darker, unless you're totally head on (vertically)

You're welcome, sorry to confirm bad news!

Oh - I already knew my monitor was bad. It's OcUK that did not believe me. I sent my monitor in to them concerning two problems: 1) that I believed it to be not a VA panel, and 2) that the viewing angles didn't comply with those stated on the product page or the pictures posted here.

For some reason unknown to me, they decided to miss my second point and not check for faulty viewing angles at all. So, for something that should not have taken more than a week, is looking like it's going to take two weeks. What is even more aggravating is the fact that they've charged me for City Link postage/packaging, and they said that it would be free of charge!!

Extremely poor service and I am one unhappy customer at the minute.

Rambo, try PM'ing Gibbo, he should be able to sort it out and knows all about the problems with this screen.

Well - they told me they're going to test it tomorrow (Saturday). If they don't think it's faulty, I'll give that a try. Thanks for the input.

Well after my little rant earlier in the week i think it's only fair if i give them some praise.

I received my new screen, has a matt finish VN panel, no dead pixles, much better viewing angles and it seems to have a better contrast ratio.

Thanks :)

Well mine has just arrived, it is actually a VA pannel!!!! However not all is so sweet, there is a nice black horizontal line of dead pixels :( so i'm going to have to get it swapped and will probably end up with a TN panel when they swap it, lol....

Just a note, my box had a tick on it in marker and looked as though it had been unpacked. I guess OcUK are checking them now? Shame they don't run them and check for other problems....

I think they must be being shipped normally. I have no mention of picking (or not) on my invoices and the incoice is attached to the monitor box so unless they send the invoices to, say, DGM, who stick them on I think we must assume they come dircetly from OKUK, Besides, the parcel tracking data from City Link shows it too.

I've just been on the phone to arrange a collection and the guy on the phone said it would be better to refund me and for me to reorder as it should be going through a different system now?

Apparently this is because returned items were being sent back out again as the same model?

He also said yesterday they went through the stock to check them all.

At last i have a ocuk forum account.

I am on my 3rd monitor.

1. First was scratched, opened(used and not new) and faulty (pixel walk and top was a lot darker then bottom) VA though.

2. Replacement was TN sent back and ordered another.

3 Received replacement yesterday (Friday 14th March) another TN, but not even bothered to turn it on. Took me 1min to check if it was reflective or not.

So far I have wasted 6 days waiting in for yet still no monitor:/

Surely they could employ someone to check the monitors takes 1-5min to pull out box a bit and look under cover to check if it is reflective. At about £10 a hour wage it would take 3-5 hours to check 50 mointors going out a day.

Now if postage is really what we pay £8. They would have already saved 5 x £8 for my order alone.... and just think of the carbon footprint these monitors now have:)

But do they really want to? when they can get away with selling £30 cheaper monitor for more.

So to rectify this I would like ocuk to send a email to all customers who have bought this monitor to check if it is TN or VA and offer replacement or refund.

how do you find out what panel you have? where do you look for the serial number/code?

thanks.
sean.

Sean,

Read back up this thread and you will find how to access the codes as well as what they mean. However, a rough guide is the screen it self. If the screen, not the surrounds, is very shiny it is almost 100% a TN screen. Another giveaway is the colour change. Up and down the screen, if you change the viewing angle the colours change. These things mean an RMA is needed to get the right thing.

cRuNcHiE,
I wondered that last week and ordered while the price was OK. Of course I am waiting to return 2 TN screens now, one that I just ordered and the replacement for the one I ordered a while ago. They will get it right, eventually, and the proper screens are apparently very good - some one posted earlier of getting one with an S-PVA, the same technology as the Dell.

does any amount of backlight bleed warrent an rma? picked one up yesterday (second hand but with reciept, only a few weeks old) was amazing at uni and when i saw it at the guys house, got home and the corners are basically going into a full white :( Also the black doesnt seem as black anymore. I'll try fiddling with cables and stuff later on.

its a va panel btw.

I would think with talk like that you shall be getting banned soon. :D

what did he say? me banned why would they do that? people have the right to know what is going on.

what I don't understand is how anyone can ever trust these forums as you never know what has been removed....

I understand competitor information info being removed but nothing else. If they don't like what people say they should just ban and leave what is said.

Hey, Kras,

Do you really think that discussion our problems with the monitors, which were sent out wrongly by OCUK would get us banned? If nothing else we are talking here where the company can see what is going on - not telling the stuff other forums. After all, OCUK needs to know what it is doing wrong as well as right. These monitors have been a disaster with plenty of people getting sent the wrong monitor more than once as I have. Banning people from the forums might cover up the problem but the fact is fixing the problem will have the greatest benefit to all of us.

To be fair, a company which would ban people because they discuss the problems they have as well as the good side of the trade is not one with which I would want to do business or, indeed, use the forums either.
