BARGAIN - OcUK 24" with DVI (*VA Panel) for £179.99+VAT (This Week Only Deal!!)

hmmm all is not good in the world of VA!!

my monitor keeps cutting out and displaying blank screen. not sure what it is.

I get no disconntected thing come up and blue light stays on...

Not looking forward to returning this again:(

oh and only way to get it working it seems is to turn it on and off a few times.

is this on DVI?

yeh dvi, its on now and staying on so not sure what is going on. Not sure if it is something in vista doing it but i never had problem with my TN.

Check the cable is fully and securely connected at both ends. If it is then it sounds like the screen could be faulty. Might be worth trying another DVI cable if you have one, and seeing if the same thing happens via the other inputs.

I had this with my faulty VA panel, ended up using it on VGA until i sent it back. I thought it was my graphics card, but maybe not?....

Good choice not read the whole thread I think! The question you ask is no. So9me panels are turning out to be S-PVA, some Premium MVA but this is just random and the latter seems more common. I suspect that at this price, DGA have just bought up lots of cheap units rather that use a regular supplier. The screen are using Sumsung and LG panels though so they are pretty good.

Basically, this is a basic good value monitor, minus the variety of positioning you get with a normal monitor. If you must have PVA then look at the Dell 2407 which is S_PVA and on offer, I think, of the 2408 both of which come with a very well designed stand as well. The sang is that they are about twice the price.

Thanks for that!

I have just seen that the "This week only" has disappeared (I should have been quicker yesterday). Are the Samsung panels the same they put in the EIZO monitors? Anyone that have received a Samsung panel lately? It looks like a lottery. The number of faulty units is a bit disturbing, yet it will be people with faulty stuff reporting more often.

I might wait for Gibbo to have another go for "This week only" promotion. Any hope Gibbo?;)

Cheers,
Paul

Well, Paul, you are right about the lottery, though you must remember they have been shifting bucket loads of these and in the main only people with problems post. It is clear the problems are being sorted even if there are a few problems so I would have thought it was a safeish buy. The trouble is that the Dell at nearly double the price is the first PVA monitor after this one. I was getting one for me and another for my wife and I certainly couldn't afford two Dells!

As for the Eizo panel, I think someone mentioned it was somewhere in this long, long thread. However, a handy site to look this sort of think up is http://axofiber.no-ip.org/inside/monitor.lcd.panels.en.htm so you could look there!

I've found the AUO full datasheet on the M240UW01 V0 panel in case anyone wants the full tech details here with everything you would ever want to know :)

I seem to have received a M240UW01 V2 panel. From the post above, Im guessing this is the "worst" VA panel you could receive ....

Oh well. Yet to actually try it, wont know till Sunday. Got somebody to turn it on for me though to check it's not a TN.

Well, my monitors have arrived. With some trepidation, I opened the first box... not shiny!! Connected up it has no dead pixels no significant light bleed and I am using it while typing this.

The second one is also MVA. However I am not quite sure about the backlighting. It looks a little darker in the centre than the sides. Since my son is good with this sort of thing I'll wait until he is back from work to see what he thinks but I am hoping it is not another RMA.

Both screens are Premium MVA (the AU panel) and I am very happy with the one I am using. We will compare my son' Dell, (S-PVA) and this tonight - I don't quite know how to make both monitors show the same picture! It is certainly looking good and so much better than a shiny screen too! Anyone thinking of buying one, looks like of a good choice!

I checkened out.. think i will either wait for a few people to say its a great screen, buy it, or save up a few more weeks for the Dell one which looks like all of them aer good screens...

I just dont like spending money lol...

Well this is interesting. According to:

http://axofiber.no-ip.org/inside/monitor.lcd.panels.en.htm

Both the BenQ FP241VW and FP241WZ use the M240UW01 V2 panel. Whereas the BenQ FP241W uses the M240UW01 V0.

According to OcUKs prices, the former 2 seem to be more expensive than the latter. So (perhaps) it's a better screen after all .......... (not that any of this matters, until I've actually seen the image and am happy with it - that's what's most important).

If you read earlier on this thread (before the TN mixup fiasco), you will see that quite a lot of people have reported that it is a very good screen.

I come from a background of using a Sony CRT 19" monitor. I can honestly say that the DGM comes close to beating the Sony in many areas, however, overall, the Sony is still ahead...slightly.

It really does depend on what you are used to using. If you are young and have used mostly cheap CRTs and LCDs, then this monitor will not dissapoint. On the other hand, if you are older and have had the pleasure of using high end CRT monitors in the past, then all LCDs will fall short of what you are used to.

If you want the absolute best (bar none), in image quality then look for a Sony 24" CRT monitor in auctions.

For the money, the DGM LCD monitor, at this time, cannot be beat.

Now I have the right screen, sunama, I'll second that. I've been using 17" LCD monitors for quite a while and the 24" is certainly a revelation - in terms of space but quality of image too. I have the V0 version and it is free of the dead pixel an so on problems.

At the price, I just don't know how they have done it - or why other manufacturers charge so much - I'm not sure which way round it is. A Dell would be a great choice, Colin, and I know because My son's is just round the corner, but at twice the price I have to ask just how much better...

Fingers crossed that the second one will be fine too.

Sorry for the datft question but is the S-PVA panel twice better than a Premium MVA one? I am asking as this is the price difference between Dell and OCUK models?

Cheers,
Paul

I've just got my replacement PVA panel from a TN that was picked up a couple of days ago...

I'm NOT impressed to be honest, sure the angles are great - kinda. The image goes all bright when looking from an angle and is totally useless, to be honest you get this "brightening" of an area of the screen just when looking at it normally, the image in the middle of the screen looks normal. Anywhere to the left gets progressively lighter and washed out...

The screen on the whole has a grainy appearance to it and I have 2 dead pixels just to the left of the centre of the screen that are very annoying.

Just looks pretty s*it to be straight about it

Much preferred the glossy dodgy TN panel, the colours were so vivid it makes this PVA panel look like tosh in terms of colour reproduction...

Its sorta got the texture of one of those hologram things that you might have looked at as a kid, rough and gauzey.

What do you think? Am I mad? Is it rubbish? If not, why not? Is that brightness thing normal?

Where do I stand on the 2 dead pixels (touching each other, could be more, defo isn't 1 anyway)?

Thanks for anyhelp with my moaning\questions, appreciated :)

(maybe some setting suggestions might help?) ;)
