BARGAIN - OcUK 24" with DVI (*VA Panel) for £179.99+VAT (This Week Only Deal!!)

Can anyone confirm whether this panel can be turned dim without sacrificing the IQ? I hear some PVA panels look washed out when the brightness is turned down.

ordered mine :), although because I want it to go to my none home adress as I'm a student and haven't signed up on the new system I might have to wait up to 48hours for additional security checks :(

Hi there

I am using the one on my desk at 30% brightness and 65% contrast as thats the settings I like best. I found it too bright previously but I am using it for desktop work and sitting rather close to it.

Hi there

There are no 22" VA type panels unfortunately, they are all TN. I've been begging Samsung for months to do a VA version of say the 226BW but guess they are not hearing it.

These might start to emerge soon which would be nice. The Eizo S2231W-E features a VA panel, and from the specs, it looks very much like a Samsung S-PVA panel. If that';s the case, and Samsung are producing S-PVA in this size, it probably won't be long before they incorporate into their own models :)

Gibbo please don't lower prices until tommorow, pretty please? :P
My father was in my room just yesterday talking about buying me a 24" for Christmas and this might be it!

so its a pva panel with dvi and vga. think it must have been said but does it have hdcp and what price will it be going up to dont get paid till wednesday :(

no official confirmation on HDCP, but given it is not listed on box or documentation it seems, i doubt it features it over DVI tbh

dont know 234 is still cheap it support dvi uses great panels only thing is HDCP. might be getting one of these but if no hdcp wont bother, my 19inch sammy is great. just wanted something bigger but need to future proof if im paying 200 quid lol

also the spec on the first page doesn't say its TN or PVa. But gibbo says later they are. if they defo are its a quality buy

yeah but its just hastle, after xmas i'd imagine other places will have pva panels with hdcp for £250. hdcp is quite a cheap feature to impliment from what ive heard.

what is OCUK's stance on dead pixels. I know if i buy it i have 7 days to return, does this also count instore? if i buy do i have 7 days to return?

HDCP will be bipassed but like ps3's and sky boxes etc it could mean more hardware and faffing about.

Obviously that's up to them, but legally, you can't return because of a few dead pixels and the distance selling regulations (where you get your 7 days from) only apply if you're buying over the phone or internet. If you buy it from the shop, tough.

i would think you can return it by car should you want to, dunno what they'll say though.

gibbo, any info on how you got such a low price. as it would appear from worldwide prices and various rumours in the industry over the last few years that samsung has been selling panels to companies at a higher price if the monitors once built will be sold in the EU. while our import duty on screens isn't noticably higher than other parts of the world. did you get these in bulk off a US distributor or something, any chance you could do that for other panels at all?

i ordered one today, hdcp, well, tbh its not going to make a huge difference for 99% of use until you get a bluray/hd-dvd drive, though even now you can rip bluray/hd-dvd can't you which would be a way around lack of hdcp. if it is a decent monitor in a couple years when bluray/hd-dvd really take off you can probably pick up a really good 24" for another £200 with all the bells and whistles so i see this screen at worst, as a good cheap stop gap, at best its a great screen already with all the bells and whistles.

i've been put off buying a screen massively though, when US prices when they have good deals on aren't much more than UK prices in pounds. when the 2407 was routinely £480-550 around the uk it was frequently on offer in the states for $550-600, but impossible to bring over really. the ocuk is only marginally cheaper than what everyone except the uk seems to be paying for 24" pva's anyway, thanks to companies marking up panels if they are to be sold in the UK. no idea how samsung and others get away with that tbh.
