BARGAIN - OcUK 24" with DVI (*VA Panel) for £179.99+VAT (This Week Only Deal!!)

My 2nd screen developed a line running full width, steadily got worse so need to replace, only had this 2-3 months itself, should I risk a 3rd one or ask for a refund and choose another ? I like the Samsung SM-2493 HM and I've seen one in action on UT3 and COD4 and it was great

I doubt you would get a refund or be given the option to have a different brand monitor. OCUK may offer to take it back and give you a brand new one, but more likely, they will tell you to goto DGM and use their warranty.

When you do contact OCUK, tell us what the outcome was as it will be interesting to see how they deal with this.

Will do, I'm going to contact OCUK first as my dealings in the past with DGM directly left a lot to be desired to be honest, but with an identical fault to my first screen within a couple of months is frustrating

I decided to take the plunge and order one, last week when it was on a 'this week only' deal.

Was quite impressed when I upacked it and plugged it in but unfortunately it was faulty on arrival, colours kept flickering. Overclockers picked it up on Friday but I didn't get chance to mark the RMA number on the box before citylink came to pick it up so hope this doesn't screw up my chances of getting a replacement before next weekend.

Was congratulating myself on getting a bargain when I saw the price go back up on Wednesday, but now I notice the price has got even cheaper and it's not even on special offer anymore!

I wonder if this is an indication that sales are beginning to slow?

I sent my monitor back, and they have emailed me saying:

The product MO-026-OK on RMA RMA139931 has been returned to you, this will be sent on a new order with order number 2192514.

Does this mean they didnt find a fault?

You could try phoning them.
Also, it is always advisable when doing an RMA on a monitor, to take a picture, upload it to the web and then sent a link to the picture in your webnote/RMA. This way, the OCUK techs will know exactly what to look for. This is especially true when you dealing with subtle faults, like backlight bleed, as opposed to blatant faults, like the monitor not switching on.

Color flickering on DVI almost always mean a bad contact. Either a bad cable, or the cable not being screwed in tightly enough. Just make sure the connector is firmly set in, and screw both thumscrews completely !

The problem was obvious, on huigher than 1900x1050 res, the picture was totaly broken. On lower res it was perfectly fine. The screen went completely unreadable, tried with multiple cables, and different GPU. The monitor wasnt functioning properly. Waiting on reply from them now having asked if its the same one.

I presume you wrote the faults down in the RMA.

What are the chances that during transit, your broken monitor, received a bump by the courier, which fixed the fault :D

I'm impressed, had a reply to an webnote today - a bank holiday! Shame Citylink don't keep the same hours

login to your account on the ocuk main site and go into rma history

should say something like this

MO-026-OK OcUK Value L2442WD-VA 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Glossy Black Faulty Replace
Details: (whatever)
Status: This item's processing is finished. Outcome: Replaced

but i do have a feeling the original is being sent back to you, when they gave me a replacement the email said

"The product MO-026-OK on RMA RMA139189 has been replaced, this will be sent on a new order with order number 2062989."

Very tempted to buy this monitor. Had been looking at 22" around the 150 - 170 mark but seems this well worth the extra 40 or so quid. It seems one of my questions has already been answered that it has great image quality at lower res, mainly 1680x1050

But I was wonder, I only sit about 1.5 feet from my monitor, I can push it back maybe another foot. 24" is going to seem pretty huge I think at that distance, perhaps too large? How do people find it?

Thanks

I don't have this monitor (I've got the 24" Hazro), but I sit about 1.5 feet from it and it's fine. You look around a bit more, but it allows you to multitask and have different apps open next to each other.

Thanks, wont be much multi tasking going on as I use my Vista box exclusively for gaming. Everything else done my Linux PC.

Im trying to decide between this OcUK one and the Acer P223W 22in Piano Black Glass TFT - Crystalbrite/DVI I can get locally for 180. About £40 cheaper when you factor in P&P. Decisions decisions...

Edit

Hmmm, skipping from reading the first 12 or so pages of glowing reviews to the last 4 or 5 pages of the last month or so seems people have been starting to get problems and also getting sent monitors with inferior pannels. I'm really pushing my budget going for this, and not so sure now.

My local shopping is seeling a Yuraku YV24, is that the same monitor people are referring to in this thread?

I still don't have my monitor back, it's been more than a month now, I've contacted OCuk complaints via a web note and got a one line reply stating that they will contact the manufacturer and "try to speed things up" but that was last Friday and I've heard nothing since. I've spent a lot of money with overclockers over the years and recommended them to a lot of friends but after this I'll be thinking twice before I use them again.

Well, all's well that ends well, DGM called last Friday to let me know my replacement would be delivered today (Wednesday) and I'm typing this using the monitor now :)

I'm still disappointed that it took the best part of 2 months to sort out but on the plus side I'd forgotten just how big this display is so I have the new toy excitement all over again.

My fears about ending up with a TN panel didn't materialise either, it's a AU M24OUW01-V0
