BARGAIN - OcUK 24" with DVI (*VA Panel) for £179.99+VAT (This Week Only Deal!!)

Obv you can set to any RES you like, but it scales it, same as n00bs who buy HDTV that have 1366x768 panels and think they are watching a 1280x720 Movie with 1:1 Pixel Mapping.

The Sharp 46" I had was a 16:9 1080p panel and did both 720 and 1080 1:1.

I never said it was, all I meant was the TV I had could show 1280x720 and 1920x1080 exactly in their 16:9 Ratio's no scaling.

My brain is messed up with meds as I have had nearly 48hours in bed with this damn bug thats doing the rounds, I feel like dying. so not really in the mood and had to read about 5-6pages in here to get upto date. :(

I was expecting some reviews today because I thought people had ordered them for delivery today. Not to worry as mine should be here tomorrow and I can do my testing on it.

Me too, thats why I forced myself out of bed and off the toilet pan to be here, PC for 1st time in 7years was off for a 24 hour period.

I was really temped by this not as of price but as of spec and pictures of angles, but I have a really high end 22" CRT and I game so its hard.

I doubt anyone gets a DEL on a Mon, even if ordered on Sat, it will be out the door on Mon and with them on Tue.

I thought some people may have ordered Friday (I seem to recall earlier posts about waiting for monday to make a decision). Do CityLink generally deliver early or is it 'your guess is as good as mine' (At least it's not Amtrak which is a mission to get to from here).

It's sort of a birthday present for myself, I was going to buy a new monitor soon anyway as my 17" Videoseven LCD had a very bad image persistence problem, especially towards the top of the screen. If I am programming for a short length of time I get the IDE burnt into my screen for several hours afterwards. I have to leave the display off for a couple of days to clear it fully.

It should be a nice upgrade from 17" to 24" and the other reason I bought it was so I can plug my Xbox 360 in at the same time without having to lean around the back and swap VGA cables. Also the widescreen should give me some more workspace which is handy for programming.

Hi all

Have got the following setup:

X1800XT 256MB
AMD 3700+SD
2GB Geil VALUE RAM

and also plan to get an XBOX360.

I need a monitor to run both on.

Will this do the job or will the graphics card not run the monitor at the best resolution?

Cheers

County :)

the graphics card will be able to run it at the highest resolution, but if your playing games don't expect to play many games at 1920x1200 with all the eye candy on.

The 360 will look really good if it outputs 1080p, and will be able to output 720p, but if the monitor doesn't do 1:1 pixel mapping then the image will be stretched at 720p ie will fill the entire monitor rather than just the pixels that are being outputted, if my explanation of pixel mapping is crap just do a wiki/google search for it.

No mate thats great thanks.

I dont play PC games anymore on the PC. Thats what the 360 will be for!:D

Just one thing though, does 1:1 pixel mapping mean that i will have black/blank edges at the sides of my screen when playing the 360?

Cheers :)

Fully off topic, but I really hate pixel mapping...

It literally drives me nuts to have like a 20" screen and to use like 12 inches of it or something! I know the quality looks a bit worse but still, it really drives me nuts otherwise :(

fair enough although any monitor that has pixel mapping can have it turned off/on so not really an issue..., I personally would like to have but its not really important to me thats why I went for this monitor without knowing whether it has pixel mapping as its such an amazing price and I reckon that the price might go up once all specs are discovered because the deal is sooo good :), thanks OcUK :D

So we'll find out about the 1:1 pixelmapping and HDMI tomorrow when our displays arrive. So stay tuned for the exciting stuff tomorrow, this is what the majority of the 12k worth of views this thread has are waiting to see.

I have 2 20" monitors, a dell 2007 FPW and a philips 20" wide, both have pixel mapping :)

I think I will replace the philips... or possibly get a cheap GPU for the 3rd monitor (which I will make the philips) That way I can have that for Photoshop palettes and whatever else :)

Surely though, if the deal was "that" good, OCUK would have sold the item at a higher price, in the first instance and still sold plenty. OCUK are not fools; they are a well run business who know how to make money.

Its possible that the price was reduced for this weekend in order to sell as many as possible so that reviews could appear on the net. Once the user reviews start coming in, then they can hike up the price (which is what appears to be happening). Thats not to say that in January, the prices of all TFT monitors wont be diving further, thus undercutting the price of this monitor.

What we need are some user reviews, which we should get in droves tomorrow.

The only people who have tried this out are Gibbo and Tizor, who (I think) are both employees of OCUK.

Although I am a sceptic, even I have to say that this is a good deal if you have been waiting to buy a 24" monitor at a cheapish price. Its possible that OCUK are selling this monitor in Nov'07 at Jan'08's prices, thus getting a head start on the competition.

sunama agreed, as you say I have been waiting for a 24" at the right price and I'm really pleased especially as I got mine for £237.28 inc next day delivery :)

ps gibbo you know the advert at the top of the forums still says 24" widescreen lcd monitors for £199.99+VAT
