BARGAIN - OcUK 24" with DVI (*VA Panel) for £179.99+VAT (This Week Only Deal!!)

I ordered one on Saturday, for the £235 inc delivery price. For a wide viewing angle, low response time, high resolution and apparently fairly decently scaling monitor, I couldnt really resist the upgrade from my 20" dell. Given that the panel is likely to be similar or the same to ones used in the more expensive monitors, Im hoping it'll be a real bargain.

I made two seperate orders to OcuK this morning, One for this Monitor and some other stuff and another for a 8800GT, I eventually (tonight) got two shipping confirmations but when i click on the tracking infomation only one tells me it will be delivered tomorrow and thats the 8800GT.

I really wanted to play with this monitor and post a review tomorrow but it looks like i'll be reading other peoples opinions first :(

Surely though, if the deal was "that" good, OCUK would have sold the item at a higher price, in the first instance and still sold plenty. OCUK are not fools; they are a well run business who know how to make money.

you mean like they did when the x-mystique was released and we all bought them for ~£35 before the retailers cottoned on and sold them for double that? or do you mean like when we all bought the corsair 620w psu's for ~£75 before the retailers decided to add another £20 to the asking price?

Or when OcUK knocked £200 off the 30" Dell upon its release then it went up and stayed up for quite a while.

There is such a thing as a bargain, even if it is quite rare!

Even though I went for a couple of Pebbles in the end, I think this monitor is still a bargain. Come Wednesday the price is apparently dropping again a little (This Week Only).

py day 2moro so if they the right price ill be getting 1 or maybe 2. dont need a monitor though so would have to be similiar to weekend price.

Just recieved my at 9am on the dot from Citylink.
Initial impressions are thats its bloody huge compared to my old Dell. The height is about the same but it expands downwards and outwards.
Initial picture quality is decent, although it doesnt appear to do 1:1. I have 1 stuck pixel (green on a black background), but to be honest at normal viewing distance its damned near impossible to pick out, and I'll try removing it a little later.
Colours out the box are ok, but a little OTT, which Im still toying around with, Gibbo's settings from earlier are better, but still not quite to my taste.
Tried firing up WoW to see any obvious ghosting, however the screen seems fine, and will test it with some UT3 later to see how it copes with faster gaming.

As already gathered, viewing angles are great, very happy for my money, once I get the colours sorted, this seems easily comparable to my old Dell, the Bezel doesnt even look THAT cheap.

-edit Black Levels seem comparable to my old Dell (aka ok, not amazing, but not the worst I've seen). The backlight is nice and uniform :)

If you mean me - so far 9/10.
No 1:1 scaling isnt a big thing to me, so loses only .5 a mark, and another .5 off for the stuck pixel, but as I mentioned its so small at my normal viewing distance, and only on black, so in normal use I virtually NEVER see it.

I'm very impressed actually so far, its keeping up with my Dell screen which cost me £280 at the beginning of the year (for a 20") - this is larger, higher res AND cheaper.

Once more people get thiers let us know what colour settings you settle for as I have to go to work, and would like to finalise my settings later this evening

Also, I've noticed that Tizor is correct, whilst not quite as good as 1920x1200 resolution, 1680x1050 is scaled really rather nicely, its much more usably scaled than some other screens I've seen!

So yes I'm happy, I just don't do 'ecstatic' over new hardware purchases; Im either happy, or not!
