BARGAIN - OcUK 24" with DVI (*VA Panel) for £179.99+VAT (This Week Only Deal!!)

I have this montor and am a little confused, so perhaps someone could explain.

When people say the monitor is too bright, even with contrast and brightness set to 0, how can this be?

When I set the monitor to those settings, I can hardly see anything, let alone be blinded by the light?

I'll try and explain. English is not my native language so please bear with me.

When you manipulate the brightness + contrast controls you only "darken" the liquid crystals in the panel making it a little harder for the backlight to pass through. But the backlight level stays the same.

Ofcourse I can't see anything either at 0% brightness and 0% contrast.
But if you look at the white color in the little OSD square and turn contrast and brightness to zero it's brightness isn't affected.

Another thing I noticed is if you lower the brightness control below about 45% you loose all greylevel detail. Verify with below image

So, using this picture as a benchmark, how could the image (given that it is so dark), hurt your eyes with its brightness level?

I accept that the OSD is unaffected, but you will hardly be using that on a regular basis and even when you do, you wont be staring at it intently. The OSD is a total non-issue.

It won't hurt your eyes displaying black, but set the picture to white, set brightness to default and look at it for a few minutes from 2 foot. Turning the brightness down just compresses the colour range and crushes near black detail. What you really need is an adjustable backlight, then you can have the brightness that suits you, but without losing dark detail.

The image has nothing to do with the monitor beeing too bright. It was just a observation regarding the consequence of trying to make the screen less bright.

I'm entitled to my experience of the monitor ? right ;)

My experience is that it is imposible to make the screen less bright without seriously screwing up the picture quality.

For instance 20% contrast + 20% brightness hurts my eyes when viewing fullscreen white.

I will give it a couple of days and see if I get used to it. I'm only concerned about hurting my eyes :(

I asked in this thread before, but no answer
just wondering of anyone has used this monitor with a ps3 or any other 1080p source, using an HDfury or vgabox gadget ?

I've had this monitor for a good few months now and i think it's brilliant! Great for movies as well as general use.

However today i have a problem with it. I cant type too much cos i'm using a mobile phone :| but basically, the monitor was running my pc fine via DVI, then i plugged a secondary device into the analog connector, and switched the channel to 'rgb', and it displayed the image from the secondary device fine. But now i have unplugged the secondary device and the monitor doesn't seem to want to switch back to DVI ;\ all i get is flashing power indicator, as if my pc is on standby/off/idle. I press switch channel, took out all leads, tried again, no luck. Even tried plugging secondary device back in to change channel back but no response at all ;\
I also tried the monitor on my other pc, still same behaviour. The monitor just doesn't pick up any signal.

Anyone know what the problem might be? Pls help.

I read your post earlier but didn't reply since you seem to have excausted all posibilities and thereby established that the monitor is broken.

In my opinion you need to RMA it...

My friend has a ps3 and hdfury with this monitor and it works really well. I think you just need to centre the picture the first time you use it but after that you can change from pc/ps3 quickly and easily.

Ah, just hoping there was a less time consuming fix. I'm already experiencing COD4 withdrawal symptoms ;p

RAM'd :\

I don't know what happened but my digimate 24" cannot display at 1920 x 1200 or 1600 x 1200 (anything X by 1200 it seems). This came on randomly today as I was adjusting the colour settings on the OSD, I messed up the colours so I went to 'reset' on the OSD and as soon as I did that it messed up. The picture is there but it seems wrapped around and is all shaking (see the video below). I have tried resetting any everything, can't figure out what's causing it as I can display a picture fine at other resolutions but as soon as I hit something like 1920x1200 it's gone. Is this a hardware fault?

Edit, seems to only be DVI as the VGA port handles 1920 x 1200 fine but I need that for somethign else so I want DVI working.

Hmm very strange indeed. Have you tried connecting it to another pc or just another graphics card ?

so which is the best one to buy the Ocuk 24" or a samsung 22" I online game most of the time using BFG 8800gt OC2.

Assuming the samsung 22" is TN based ? There is really no competition. I would get OCUK 24"

I've just noticed that "Phase", "Clock", "H-Position" and "V-Position" are now all disabled on my screens OSD. I know for a fact they were enabled before because I recorded this video the day I got the display. Very weird, all this from pressing "reset" on the OSD.
