BARGAIN - OcUK 24" with DVI (*VA Panel) for £179.99+VAT (This Week Only Deal!!)

Does Baddass have this monitor?

If he doesn't then how can he review or give his opinion? Although i do agree Baddass would be the best person to give an opinion.

i don't have this model, no. I'm reading through all the comments here and I'm happy to contribute my opinion about the whole thing....bare with me while I write something up :)

My main concern before buying DGM was how games would look running at 1680x1050 and to me they look just as good as when i was running them on my 20" Viewsonic.

Honestly don't worry how games will look. There fine

gosh, this is a popular thread! catching up on all those posts just now toko me ages, and every time i clicked to move to the next page, there was another one added on the end! 27 pages already! reminds me of when we had the 2405FPW thread way back when! :D

Hi,

I was seriously considering getting this monitor but I decided on the 22" Pebble instead. I know a lot of you would disagree with this but let me explain my decision:
  • I have no intention of hooking up a console or blueray/hddvd drive to the monitor as I have a larger HDTV in the lounge so the extra 2" physical screen space was not so much of an issue.
  • I play a lot of FPS games and will be using 1680x1050 primarily for gaming so the Samsung won on this point with that being its native resolution as well as it having a better response time.
  • There was nothing really definitive as to which screen had a better picture at the time and still no direct comparison, just speculation based on panel type which ignore any other factors that can effect picture quality, although admittedly the 24" monitor is more likely to have a better picture.
  • The OcUK monitor has a smaller dot pitch than the Samsung (text appears quite small) and I was after a screen that was easy to read from as I do a lot of coding and my eyes take a battering so the Samsung suited me better in this regard as it has the resolution of a 20" monitor but displayed at 22".
  • Having a dual-monitor setup is more important to me than having just one big screen and I didn't think I could fit another 1-2 monitors alongside the 24" on my desk (I'll actually have 3 monitors to begin with).
  • The Samsung's bezel/stand looks better and I also went for a matching 19" Pebble to be my 2nd monitor so the setup should look very nice.
So in short, I went for the Samsung 22" Pebble over the 24" OcUK because of finite desk space, gaming, larger dot pitch, aesthetics and matching 19" monitor.

To be fair though, I would recommend the 24" OcUK monitor to most people unless of course their requirements are similar to mine.

Imy - I think your missing the point of 2" extra, Its not about physical screen size its about desktop space. Also the DGM is excellent for gaming at 1680x1050, you also need to consider the DGM as a superior PVA panel.

Aslong as it's not gloss :)

I can't seem to get a straight answer if the samsung screens are matt.

It's a matt screen and the bezzel is glossy. if you look hard enough and in the right lighting you will see your reflection in the screen but this is no where near as bad as a glossy screen would be.

When software 1:1 mapping is used on the OcUK 24" is there a single line of compressed pixles on the edge of the black bar that looks like a solid line of pixels ?

4 posts up :)
