Baroness Thatcher has died.

Right to buy was a deliberate policy to entice working people into a life of debt slavery so that they could be pushed around more easily.
They sold off billions of pounds worth of state owned assets at knock down prices.

Now we have a severe shortage of social housing.

My parents took advantage of the right to buy act and now, 30 years on, they are happily retired in their own home with no debt. People like my parents, who are financially responsible and are able to work hard and earn and save, did benefit from the right to buy act. For you to say it was a deliberate policy to entice people into a life of debt, is a fallacious argument and demonstrably wrong in my parents case. I can't speak for everyone's situation, only of my own and those close to me. I'm sure there are people who ended up in debt, but I don't know the reasons why so I can't comment.

Also, Thatcher left office in 91 and that's plenty of time to address social housing by successive governments. But all have failed, including the present one.

Maybe you are on the wrong place on the Internet, you need a site like laughingatthedead.com .....man you must be a great person.

Ps can we have a thread about how you suck when you get killed by a bus while crossing road ?

Lol actually i'm personally against disrespecting the dead. My point was and i quote

Whilst I personally have nothing against her as ultimately was before my time I'm a firm believer in respecting the dead anyway.

What I would question is, where were all the mods and bleeding hearts during the Amy Winehouse thread and many others pretty much celebrating the deaths of people? Where's the arguments for "black humour" and this is how British people deal with tradegy or death. And the why treat with respect after death if not earned whilst alive arguments.

It seems a bit selective in who we are supposed to treat with respect after death, based on the personal feelings of some posters and mods rather than a universal application regardless of whom the dead person is.

rip david Cameron thatcher
:p

Rip, if her government were bought forward to today we wouldn't have millions of slackers sitting watching Jeremy Kyle on 50 inch plasmas from my hard earned tax.....

Not only did unemployment double under her terms as PM, the idea that the unemployed get free TV and sky and swimming pools is a flat out lie told so often people think it is true. That whole paragraph is one big fallacy.

The haters here in general were not even caring about politics and policy's as still in nappies, even I was way too young to care and I'm 42

So to the above haters who are under 40, it's just pure distasteful lack of respect... I suggest you unplug the computer and think about how fragile life is, and how little flukester wishes you were not a member of it

Thatcher screwed over an entire generation (at least) that had absolutely no say in what she did. Not only that, she did this knowing full well by the time the kids she condemned were old enough to realise and do something, she would be well out of politics anyway.

Killing off heavy industry and turning the UK into a service based economy was the biggest blunder.

Gave FAR TOO MUCH power to the banks and financial business in London.....and look how that turned out!

If it wasn't inside the M25 it wasn't a priority to her

A little known fact for her devoted supporters to chew on...

During negotiations with the miners unions, it was put forward to the government that the strikes would stop and she could close the pits if the British Coal Board pension fund was liquidated and given out to the miners.

Bear in mind in the mid 80's this pension fund was worth billions and was one of the largest pension funds in the world at the time...if it happened virtually every miner would've became a millionaire overnight

Thatcher government refused as the pension fund and its investements made too much money for London to lose it....even though it rightfully belonged to the miners who payed into it over the decades

It all boils down to cold hard cash at the end of the day....nothing new there

She screwed over the lazy, who think they deserve something for nothing.... I got to to start my working career after thatcher, and have done just great through hard work and sweat

The unemployed today have large TVs, sky and iPhone 5s.... And in general don't have the slightest clue about what hardwork and motivation is

I'm sure this is one of your arguments "why treat someone with respect after death if not earned whilst alive . "

There is a difference between not showing respect and being deliberately rude and offensive. Surely you can see that?

To be honest it doesn't bother me either way, however if you really do feel the need to be hateful and disrespectful to an old woman that has just died then it certainly says a lot about you and little of it positive.

You should have started that sentence with 'Some'.

Sweeping generalisations are not a good way to conduct a debate. Some people who are unemployed are so through no fault of their own. Sounds like you've bought into the tory rhetoric that everyone on welfare is a lazy scrounger. Shame on you.
