Batman Arkham City - Thread

I have tried the game in DX11 and DX9 and tbh they look the same just in DX11 it runs as a slideshow...
What is DX11 meant to add as I can't see anything different.

I think only certain objects look better from what I understand. But I wonder if dx11 is even working 100% in its current state. I guess when the patch comes out we will know for sure. But yeah from what I hear from other forums the difference is nothing special. But even if it is slightly better then dx9 I will still wait for it before I play it.

Does it have Physx ? I remember Arham Asylum looking quite a bit better on an Nvidia Gpu..

Edit just watched a video on youtube. Its a shame that the Physx stuff is Nvidia only as it looks quite good, No reason why this can't be done on any card or a spare cpu core...

So is this worth getting if you really liked arkham asylum

Absolutely!

The only thing, which is very different to arkham asylum is that AC is open world, at first I wasn't too sure about it, but I like the open world a lot now! :D

Everything has been improved upon from AA.

From videos, pics etc. that I have seen/read the differences you only notice is when you are up very close and are analysing the object for the difference between dx 10/9 and 11 :p

So poison ivy roots/plants, the gargoyles you grapple to, harvey dents face and TBPH that is it really and again the difference still has to be pointed out for some stuff and is only noticeable when up close e.g.

And yup, it does have physx and as I said physx looks far better than DX11, you actually notice the differences easily.

I have completed the main story, which was a bit of a weird ending tbh.

Back in the city, doing the side missions I forgot about earlier.

Not started a new + game yet. As I'll be having a play around with the Nightwing pack first ;)

I have found a health bar cheat. I was down to my last 2 bars, and I had to pause the game to go and cook dinner. I came back a few hours last, and un-paused the game. I found my health bar was back to full. I am not sure how long it does take to refill, but it helped me beat the Joker Titan.

The most noticeable thing when physx is turned on is Batmans cape, it looks amazing.
It's the same even if you turn physX off. I think the cape uses apex.

All PhysX and APEX features can be run on the CPU or an NVIDIA GPU, but you can expect the game to run much slower without NVIDIA GPU acceleration when the additional PhysX effects are enabled. An NVIDIA GPU is recommended for all the additional PhysX features.

Not quite true - the Riddlers challenges which I really enjoyed in AA have been basically removed (you get some by kill streaks, etc. but the majority are just found hiding) I preferred the camera puzzles which were really good.

They're still there arent they?..

True, but I kind of prefer that personally and for the majority of them you have to figure out how to get access to them first and there are different ways of getting them (about 4 or so ways iirc which involves pretty much gliding, using explosive gel and batarang, using the electric shock gadget/gun, freeze grenade and bat claw and the remote batarang etc.)

What exactly do you mean by the camera puzzles?

The ones where you have to find the giant question mark painted on a wall (weren't too many in this game and some are pretty big/noticeable as well)

Or/and:

The riddles? Where you have one like "where all the madness began" "the root of all evil for poison ivys plants" (or something like that) and you have to hold "x" to solve the riddle. There are loads in this game, just have to find riddlers informants and interrogate them to get all the stuff to show up on the map.

The "invisible question mark" riddles are still in the game, they are the ones that are called, "to find me you need to get to an unusual perspective".

Nexus is right, they have improved on everything from the first game.

Well, except for the fact that physx doesn't work too good :p

Sorry haven't explained that - the puzzles I really liked were the actual riddles:

You don't know Jack about Gotham. Tune in to find out.
You have to zoom in on the radio and scan the name on it.

Not the unusual perspective ones which were okay but not brilliant.

I see what you mean, there is a lot more "?" compared to the amount of the "[]" to find.

You will know if it has as GWFL will pop up with a big message telling you as you watch a download bar. Also I think most of the time it signs you out of live to restart. You will all know when a patch hits :) It will not even let you be onlive with that title if you don't agree to download the patch. Same as xbox live does.
