Batman Arkham City - Thread

Doesn't launch or log into it through mine on steam

Just looked at my services and a key component of GFWL was disabled (windows live login assistant). Re-enabled it, logged into the GFWL marketplace program, which then prompted me to download the login assistant again. Did that and GFWL launched with the game and I have my 72% save back which I copied from steamclouds folder.

Steamcloud folder is in the steam folder > userdata > your account number > 57400 > Remote

Back that up peeps.

dunno if i should get this for ps3 as on amazon lots of bad reviews about the buggy pc version?
not sure grpahical differences on 1080p high vs ps3?

The majority is for DX 11, that is why it has bad reviews for performance.

And there is very little if any difference at all really between dx9 and dx 11, you only notice it when up close to plants, gargoyles, everything else still looks the same and as I said before many times :p, for this game it really doesn't matter that small difference as everything else about this game IMO is just great and easily one of my fav games ever!

Absolutely no problems on my rig in sig, with everything set to highest settings apart from AA set to 2 and motion blur off.

The game from what I have played and seen on consoles looks sooooo much better on PC.

Watched the alternative ending with catwoman in the safe for either the PS3 or 360 (can't remember which) and the textures, lighting, colours etc. looked dreadful compared to PC, was genuinely surprised, didn't think it would be that much different.

So you mean you have to play the game in dx9 mode. BUt in dx9 mode the game runs with no problems?

Maybe later dx11 will be patched.

And dx9 1080p looks much better than ps3 also. cool

Sitting 5 feet back on the sofa it looks the same on console as it does on pc. If your sitting up close to a monitor the Pc looks better but not massively.

is that true?

I read before that the details and high resolutions make no difference if you sit far away, only close up?

so if I sit 8 feet away from 40 inch hdtv, it makes little diff its its med detial 720p vs 1080p high detail?

If you want smooth performance you have to.

It will be fixed sooner or later though......

But as I said, DX 11 is pointless for this game, virtually no difference between it and dx 9, unless you love staring at a few things up real close and analysing the difference :p

Yup for me everything on max settings (my gpu doesn't have dx 11) except aa set to 2 and motion blur off, the game runs super smooth.

You will have no problems with a 5770 at 1080P

Well yeah if you are going to be sitting far away from your monitor as in same distance from a 40" tv or whatever, then you will struggle to see the difference, however most people including myself are up pretty close to the monitor and therefore notice the detail etc. where as with a console connected to the TV, you will most likely be sitting way back on the couch.

Watch some youtube videos in HD comparing PC and 360/PS 3 and see what you think yourself.

I noticed a massive difference watching the alternative ending on PS3/360 in the vault for everything pretty much.

well i have my pc hooked up to my 40 inch hdtv also.

So I will play batman with 360 pad in my bed 6-8 feet from hdtv.

I have 24 inch monitor but only use it for online shooters mainly.

Well then yeah, you might as well go for PS 3 copy.

Although I just had a google "batman arkham city PC VS console" and a few website/forums where people have said the same that the textures look terrible compared to PC, and that is coming from PC gamer as well, however this won't be an issue if your sitting back at that distance.

Will try to find some videos whilst not spoiling the storyline.

The patch makes the game worse for me as well.

Makes No difference what settings, what resolution, SLI, No SLI, Dedicated PhysX, no PhysX at all.

The game just stutters and hitches all the time.

well im not 100% sure surely 6 feet at 40 inches 1080p is not to different from 2 feet 24 inches 1080p?

I used to have my hdtv 15 feet from my bed and well I coudl barely see details then. Since I moved my tv to within 6-8 feet from my bed I can see much more detail.

So, im not sure?

1080p is much nicer than 720p nevermind high details in texture.
PC is cheaper so I will get Pc version.

Only reason I was gonna ge console was due to bugs complaints but if dx9 works fine and looks good thats fine

Well personally I find that even when up close to a monitor and 42" plasma TV (same distance, up close and far away), I still see far more detail in monitors, due to how the monitors are, can't remember what the term is, pixel density, ppi or something...... (been ages since I done any research on monitors)

e.g. perfect example, in COD MW 2, I can easily see everyone, every little thing on my PC (max settings) as opposed to playing it on my 360 connected to a 42" plasma TV (via HDMI), I really struggle to spot enemies clearly, no matter what distance I am from the TV, could also be due to the detail of game on PC etc. and same for other games. Really annoys me that and is one of the main reasons I don't bother with consoles any more :D

Plus this sort of game looks great on IPS monitors.

Yeah as said the game works great for me and my PC isn't the highest specced especially the GPU, so you should be more than fine. What is the rest of your PC?

I'm seeing a definite improvement.

Shot a quick vid of a benchmark run if anyone's interested:

Everything maxxed apart from AA which I set to 4 X MSAA

Screen Res: 1920 X 1200

990X @ 5GHz
6GB Tr Channel Dominator GT 2000 C7, 8, 7, 20
2 X GTX 480 in SLi
Rampage II Extreme
Kingston 120GB SF SSD

The Game is definitely massively smoother (see my earlier post http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=20655737#post20655737 ) but still getting the odd micro stutter now and again.

(Steam version BTW)

Well it has to do with feild of view.

Off course on a 22-24 inch monitor yuo can see the whole screen in your feild of view.

On a 40 inch monitor sit to close and you only see part of central area of screen and the rest are outside on your perhiperal view.

TO see the full 40 inches in your main field of view requires you sit an ideal distance away, maybe 10 feet? But sittign at this distance makes it harder to see things than if up close such as 1-2 feet to monitor.

However a game like batman im not bothered about that as its not online competitve fast fps gaming.

I will play with 360 pad anyway so I can sit at desk and play on monitor or lie on bed with pad and big tv?

Well my pc plays crysis 2 etc...so I doubt batman will be problem

3gb ram, 2.8ghz dual core (overclocked a 2.3)

so yeh it prob look better close up on my monitor but batman is the type of game good to lie in bed with aint it?

Yeah that as well.

But I mean actual detail and not looking blurry and really sharp etc. if you get what I mean i.e. hence why when some people use TVs for their PCs and do web browsing, word documents etc. the text will look blurry and not as sharp as on a HD monitor.

And yup, this sort of game is probably much better with a joypad, but I played with the m+k anyway! :D

Yeah, you will be fine with that PC.

True that! :)

I know what you mean smaller images menas tighter graphics....on the big screen everything is bigger, the characters, guns, trees etc..the pixels per inch of screen are bigger and its not as sharp.
