Batman Arkham Knight - Official Thread!

I think this is good it has happened to a PC AAA title. Customers have spoken, developers have listened and taken drastic action.

Finally a note can be put out to other developers not to release unfinished PC games with no proper testing and no, day one patches isn’t acceptable either.

Is this the first time a big name Steam game has been pulled from sale due to the game being basically unplayable? Bit of a PR nightmare for the company that made it.

This is some serious ****. Nvidia are giving there resources freely to help Warner fix it(and not just for Nvidia cards.). Pulling copies from shelves, its not going to be fixed for a while. I give it a month at least.

Define freely?

As a gameworks title (awful one at that), Nvidias investment is liable to all sorts of doubt, Nvidias B.O.D. don't care about the consumers experience until it hurts their goals.

Wow, pulled from sale.

I would not be surprised if we never see it again on PC. The damage has been done, they can't expect to recover from this really?

Oh it'll be back. There's a lot of money to be made from the PC market and they know people will buy it again if its working as intended. So they'll fix it.

Its just a question of how long it takes.

This is embarrassing on so many levels for Nvidia, Warner Bros, Rocksteady and Iron Galaxy. It's got to the stage now with PC games that I'd rather developers just have a different development cycle and release the PC version at a later date if it means that that extra time allows them to optimise performance, or at least delay the launch of the PC version until it's ready. GTA V runs nicely on loads of different types of hardware, and although Witcher 3 suffered the downgrade controvery, that too runs very nicely on several tiers of hardware, and both were either separately developed or delayed.

What has to stop is developers outsourcing the porting of the game to small third-party companies. I can only assume that Rocksteady did this because they didn't think they could deal with developing for all three platforms. However, had Rocksteady released the console versions of this game when they did and then spent 3-4 months working on the PC version, making sure it was superior from a performance and graphical perspective, I don't think anyone would complain about the wait. I didn't hear too many people complaining about Witcher 3 being repeatedly delayed because everyone was confident that we would get a great game in the end. Equally, Rockstar promised that the year's wait for the PC version of GTA V would be worth it, and on the whole it was.

Ive got a feeling this is going to be either re released in October this year or march/April next year.

There seems to be a lot of work rocksteady need to do to get this up to snuff and they need to take their time on it otherwise people wont re buy it

Sorry state of PC Gaming.

I think PC gaming will eventually one day disappear, it seems devs just can't be bothered to write games for PC and make them compatible with the various hardware, they'd rather just make a game for a single hardware console. Less games will come out on PC and PC gaming will become a 'scene' for fans and people still making games for it, all the AAA games will be console only.
I actually think that this is a great thing to have happened! now we have the ability to refund we are no longer at the mercy of lazy devs who don't put enough time and effort into Q&A, shame it had to be Batman that caused the problem but it's fitting in a way that Batman may have saved us from criminally unfinished games! PC gaming will never die at least not till we are all in the matrix!

The best thing they can possibly do right now is hold it back from sale until October I think it was (when the Mac + Linux versions were due anyway) - fix all the problems and properly optimise the whole thing...

Then as an apology to the PC crowd they should include all of the season pass/DLC content in the standard edition of the game on PC. It could happen (I doubt it will but you never know)

I'm on the verge of getting a PS4. A bunch of titles at E3 already had me tempted, but seeing how bad the PC version of the game is, and I do want to play the game, is making me want a PS4 even more.

But that Joypad controller and 30fps?

Having to use a controller on every game feels like having my hands bound together these days. Even on game like GTAV and Batman the M&K allows so much more freedom and fluidity of movement that my controller rarely gets used these days except for the odd driving and platform type game.

It's also vastly more expensive to buy games on console, yes this is a mess but hell the PS4 aint some utopia of gaming thats going to solve all your 1st world gaming problems. Just wait 6 months, pay £5 for this and spend the rest on beer.

You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain...

PC gaming just now is a lose/lose situation from a developers stand point. If the game isn't released the same time as the consoles and look 10x as good, we complain. If a developer decides to delay a game in favour to optimise it on PC, we complain.

You know what else this whole debacle is revealing in the numerous discussions and comments about it - how ridiculously down-trodden and quick to self-deprecation PC gamers are...

The PC is not dying because a few over-hyped "AAA" releases have come out in a poor state... It's the same big publishers time and time again trying to make as much cash as possible...

Developers are not going to give up on the PC because it's a "tiny minority of sales" (this is the biggest and most annoying myth of all - as if years and years of console propaganda and fanboyism have finally gotten to people; look up the numbers!)...

Hopefully this case making a huge example of WB/RockSteady will help get the point across (although frankly it almost seems as though nobody at RockSteady or Nvidia for that matter had even taken a cursory glance at the final PC version before putting it out there; I struggle to believe they would have signed off on it if they had)

Just got an email from WB this morning:

"Be Vengeance. Be The Night. Be The Batman. Batman: Arkham Knight out Today.‏"

Dunno why it's arrived 3 days after release, and a day after it was pulled from sale :D

But they must surely have known it was running like turd?

I set it downloading this morning.

Will fire it up tonight to see just how bad it is.

Maybe I will be lucky like I have with the recent nvidia drivers and experience no issues where others are :)
