*** Battlefield 1 ***

The fact is those moaning about it on a regular basis will be playing it as it's pretty much the same people who moaned about BF3/BF4 before putting hundreds of hours into it.

Won't be buying or playing it here unless they make significant changes versus what I saw in the beta. Sadly all too many will so they won't have a problem pushing out more mediocre **** as people will pay for it.

What was wrong with the beta?

I loved it and I'm normally the first to complain about games being dumbed down.
Sorry to say I'll be buying it :D

You have no idea what was cut out in games years ago to be saved for expansions. I'm sure you will also be aware that they would have had planned expansions while the main game was being developed.

I'm pretty sure they didn't just release a game and then think"ohh what can we do for an expansion now we are bored"

Yes it's got worse no doubt but to claim it's not been there for many many years but just dressed up as something else is completely wrong.

TBH you do hold valid concerns if not repeated consistently. I just don't agree that it was all rosy back then as it wasn't.

Yes no doubt it would have been the same back then but as you said, it just seems worse now and it appears that the more important/good stuff has been removed for dlc purposes as after all, it is more appealing for people to buy those ideas/content over some skins, bonus money or whatever. Back then, it was just the start of "expansions" so the publishers/developers would have been testing the waters.

BC 2 was great, we got free maps added to the base game and the paid for DLC (vietnam) for that was superb, it could have been sold as a separate game and if that was released now, chances are it would have been, much like hardline :p

What really irked me was battlefront, released with 4 maps for the main game mode... (with 1 map held as a pre-order/DLC bonus) and during the hype/trailers, youtubers (think it was neebs gaming crew) were told that space battles hadn't been left out for dlc purposes, fast forward to death star DLC...

Likewise with batman arkham knight, I only just recently learned that they had cut out boss battles, which were somewhat tied into the main story line for season pass/dlc owners...

Even some basic things that were apart of mafia 2 gameplay have been withheld for mafia 3 DLC purposes.

But that is how things like this get to this point, they start of small where no one bats an eyelid and sees it is an advantage then before you know it, we get to a certain stage where people start to notice and then mouth of about it, however, they have no choice but to cough up if they want to get said content and just accept that is the way of life now.

The fact is those moaning about it on a regular basis will be playing it as it's pretty much the same people who moaned about BF3/BF4 before putting hundreds of hours into it.

If they have fixed/improved the game mechanics, I'll probably get it, got no problems paying up to £40 as like bc 2, bf 3 and 4, chances are I'll get at least 300 hours from it. However, I won't be buying premium this time round (unless I can get it for dirt cheap) as all it does is split the community + myself and the 5+ others I played bf 3/4 with didn't bother bother with the DLC maps either due to 1+ of us not having them or/and just being of crap quality.

Well what annoyed me the most is that so many legacy battlefield issue and bugs persisted - even stuff that had long ago been finally resolved in BF4 and yet again they are back in a new game.

The gun mechanics felt really unsatisfying to play with and in some cases were just plain retarded and many areas the mechanics or gameplay was a step backwards even from BF4.

To be frank if this had been the first game of a new studio, etc. then I'd have said fair effort can't wait to see your next game - but from a seasoned big name developer its a poor effort and the more so given how many basic bread and butter things are a step backwards let alone progress. Even if visually it looks great - and maybe even the single player (though not something Dice are known for) will be decent who knows but I'm more interested in the MP side ultimately.

Lastly all the messing around with access, etc. has just left a sour taste in my mouth - essentially for all realistic intents and purposes they are delaying the game for those who don't just open up their wallet.

you do know what a beta is right? for all you know those "bugs" you speak of might have been fixed for the release..

bugs are expected in a beta, its half the reason they even have one. to find bugs they have missed etc

I was waiting for that reply. That would be great if we were talking say BF3 beta... but no excuse for these issues to persist/re-emerge after all this time - they should have been very solidly stamped out fundamentally in the engine a long time ago. It was sloppy in BF4 its beyond sloppy now.

Is this your first battlefield game? These "beta's" are nothing but pre-release demo's with "beta" slapped onto it to explain away any bugs with one simple word.

COD is as bad, they're getting a beta soon despite the fact the game is due for release early next month.

What issues though? i mean the beta played fine for me, sure there was a few hiccups but nothing that really bothered me

all im saying is give it a chance to release before you complain about bugs etc lol, if the game releases and its full of bugs that could have been fixed months ago then i completely agree with you.. but the fact is we dont know the state of the game until i releases

@Gerard no its not my first battlefield and isnt that what a beta is anyway? a "pre-release demo" ?

Not your first BF game? I take it you missed a good chunk around the time of BF3 and 4 then or have a very short memory of the issues :S these kind of issues should have been fundamentally sorted a long time ago no excuse for them reappearing in BF1 beta or not - again if this was the work of a relatively inexperienced/new developer that would be one thing but these kind of things should not be happening with a developer like Dice.

lol i played a lot of both 3 and 4 but i thought we were talking about issues in bf1 beta, i was just asking which issues you meant as a lot of the issues from 3/4 that i had (like the random KIA when jumping a wall) were not in the bf1 beta

only real bug I had in the bf1 beta was sometimes spawning without any weapons, apart from that it ran great for me

Same mate, I had this exact same issue!!

The game looked and ran amazing, I was totally blown away by the gameplay and how good it looked, the colours and maps looked great and the old style weapons and planes were awesome to use. I was super impressed.

But every now and again, not often but maybe once or twice per day or once every so many hours it would spawn me onto a map with no weapons in my hands and therefore I couldn't play. So you would have to quit out and rejoin and then it would work.

Pretty bad bug really if you think about it.

Also I recently started playing Star Wars Battlefront free trial on my PC and 90% of the time the game is unplayable and my fps goes from 100+ to 5fps so makes the game virtually unplayable. That's the worse bug I've ever had from any game in my entire life! So I wont be buying that game now even though I really wanted to and I'm a big star wars fan.

I know the 2nd game I mentioned is a different genre but don't they use the same game engine? frostbite 3? So pretty worrying...

We are - there is a video somewhere - think it was posted in this thread - with many of the bugs - I've even seen the odd instance of random KIAs when navigating terrain, etc.

A lot of issues with the Frostbite engine seem to be really random - some people will never see an instance of a specific bug while others will get them all the time :( for no apparent rhyme or reason for instance even after the supposed fix I will still frequently blow myself up when I hit a target with the TV missile in BF4 instead of the target it has just hit - while other people can launch them all day and never have it happen.
