1) Chipset Intel X58: i7 920 @4Ghz
2) nVidia GTX580 with 285.79 beta's
3) Forte 7.1 & Corsair HS1's for audio
4) Install location: (SSD) H:\Origin\Origin Games
5) Copy of BF3: Origin pre-order
6) OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 inc all updates
7) Problems: Non. Stutter/frame skip free. No crashing at all.
8) Punkbuster update (I check for updates every day)
Everything is set to Ultra apart from the following:
Antialiasing Post OFF (as it blurs the screen too much)
Motion Blur OFF
Motion Blur Amount OFF
Antialiasing Deferred 2x MSAA
Anisotropic Filter 4x
HBAO
VSYNC On
Solid 60FPS on all maps. (Will dip to mid to low 50's depending on how much is going on but this is only really on large maps)
Whenever I update my graphics drivers I do the following in this order:
1) Uninstall everything through Programs & Features (requires a couple of reboots)
2) When it's all uninstalled I'll reboot the PC (not into safe mode)
3) Run Driver Cleaner.net and select everything nVidia related and remove everything. I never use Driver Cleaner as I find it knackers my system up (that was when I was running ATI. I don't know about nVidia)
4) Reboot again.
5) Run Crap Cleaner and run the cleaner and the registry cleaner.
6) Install the new drivers making sure I tick "Perform Clean Install"
7) Reboot
I'm yet to have any issues doing it this way. It may seem a little over the top but I know I've got nothing hanging around in the background.
As for the people that can't get the game working at all, if it was me I'd make an image of my system and do a format. Start again from the very beginning and see if that helps. Also if your using onboard sound I'd suggest ditching it as it's always more problems than it's worth. Get yourself a nice new card for Xmas (not a software version) and see if that help. I'm currently running an Forte 7.1 and I have zero issues with it but I don't think you can get those in this country any more.
1) Remove your 2nd Graphics Card for the time being
2) Install your OS onto an SSD if at all possible (make sure you have set it to Advanced Host Controller Interface in the BIOS before installing the OS if your using an SSD)
3) Install your chipset drivers - Reboot
4) Install all Windows Updates - Several reboots
5) Install Graphics Drivers - Reboot
6) Install Sound Card drivers - Reboot
7) Install Origin (if possible to it's own HDD/SSD)
8) Install/Download Battlefield 3
9) Run the Punkbuster update and update Battlefield 3
10) Set everything to medium but use your native resolution even if you have an high end PC.
See how that goes over a day or so and if everything is running fine crank it up to high and repeat. I would also have no Antivirus/Firewall present on your system if all your doing is playing Battlefield 3. If you are tempted to goto those "educational web sites" then yes, install it ! If everything is running fine after several days then start to install other software one by one and checking that Battlefield 3 is still running fine. I say this as I have an issue with ObjectDock and 3dMark 2011. The benchmark will not run whilst ObjectDock is running. It took me a while to work this one out !
Thinking on. If your getting random lock-ups or BSOD's and your using a OCZ Agility 3, make sure you have the very lastest Firmware as it's a known issue with these drives. I'm sure by now it's been sorted out but if it was me I'd take it out and leave it out whilst testing.
Hope this helps someone
