**Battlefield 3 Patch - Let's get to the bottom of the problems**

1. ASRock A790GXH/128M, AMD Phenom X4 9950 Black Edition, overclocked. 4gb OCZ Spec ops DDR2 800, overclocked.
2. HIS IceQ x Turbo HD 6870, overclocked. 11.11 drivers
3. Default location
4. Retail BF3 version, Eyefinity - 3840x1024
5. Win 7 64bit Ultimate X64
6. No extra problems at all. Patch seems to have made the game much, much smoother for me. I'm running an eyefinity setup, 3840x1024 on an HD 6870 and the frame rate is now much more consistent, no big drops, or spikes. Mouse control seems a lot smoother and less jerky. I seem to be able to run it on higher settings now because of this.

My only gripe, and it is small, is that the crash on first load isnt fixed yet. I still nearly always get a game crash with the first server i try to connect since my PC was switched on. It's not a big deal though as I can connect ok from then on.

i personally don't think its down to hardware to be honest

i think its more likely to be software. Drivers/programs running in background/alt+tabbing etc.

Things ive seen and heard:
"Voice Comms programs crash me on BF3 More"
" Since removing Aero No BF3 Crashes"
" Not using MSI Afterburner any more no more crashes" - Me

i would add programs running whilst playing, most people will have a lot like
- browser
- mumble/ts/vent
- sound drivers
- gfx drivers
- Firewall
- afterburner
- some people might run msn/skype in the background.

i would suggest you all try running with the limited software see how it goes. or maybe bf3 drops crash reports in the games area (collate them send them to dice)

But why would running the same software you ran pre patch have any effect post patch. The patch must have some seriously bad coding if you now have to turn other software off to play?

6. Mainly get "you have been disconnected from EA but also have had a few crashed to black screen twice in the 4 times I was able to connect to a multiplayer game. CO-OP will not connect at all, gives the same error message. Campaign crashed after 1 minute the first time I tried, then was okay for 10 minutes plus the second time, i.e. didn't crash.

This is my sequence of events.

I have Avira Antivir. It complained the update was a virus about halfway through the update process. I closed the alert window and it appeared to continue to install. After it finished installing the patch I did a "repair install" in Origin from experience this has fixed the crash on first game bug for me, i.e. after the previous patch. It downloaded a 30gig patch. On starting the game from the desktop icon Avira then said bf3.exe was a virus. I added bf3.exe to the exceptions list in Avira and tried again. Origin then signed in but Firefox did not appear to start, thus battlelog did not show up. I rebooted and tried to start the game. This time Firefox did start and I tried to start a coop game. Failed to connect to servers or disconnected from server error message multiple times. Rebooted again. Tried again same problem, tried joining a multiplayer game, got the ""stopped working" crash on first game as before. Did a google for BF3 problems and Punkbuster came up in the first few, so I did a manual update of PB, rebooted. Also did a repair install again, this time it downloaded an 11gig patch. Tried multiplayer and was able to join a game, thought that had fixed it. Played for about 5 minutes then crashed. Tried to start a coop game and got the same "disconnected from EA" errors multiple times. Tried to start a campaign and this time it played of for 10 mins before I got bored. Tried coop and multiplayer and still got the same error. Tried repairing install a coupl of times at this point and it said everything was up to date. Gave up and went to play PES instead, although I *almost* fired up RO2, which goes to show how disolusioned I was at this point.

Thinking a complete re-install will be required tonight unless there is some further patch released.

was getting a few problems before patch. now i get black screen between rounds most every change. a lot of lag. crashes on getting into servers. freezes in game.

its just become a pain to play since the patch. lag is so bad i don't even see people before i am on the floor dead.

wtf is going on??

Found this on Battlelog, maybe worth a try.

Tried a solution to the game freezing and just played a 15 min match, not sure if it was just coincidence but i'll post it here just in case.

I'm windows7 32bit, hd6870 and dual core [email protected]

Windows 7/Windows Vista
* In Windows 7/Vista go to Start menu. Go to Accessories. Locate the command prompt shortcut and hover mouse over it. Right Click on the shortcut then select Run as Administrator.
* In the command prompt type this exactly:

bcdedit /set increaseuserva 2500

Then hit enter.
* Make sure you get a message back confirming the change was made. To verify the entry is there you can type just bcdedit, hit enter, and you should see the entry now listed.
* Then close the command prompt. You just told Vista to increase user virtual address (userva) space to 2500MB.
* Changes take effect on reboot.
Now reboot the PC because Windows needs to set the userva at 2500 which only happens after startup.

If you skip any step it will not work. When you have rebooted you should be good to go. Run the game as normal with the original game shortcut.

TO UNDO THE CHANGES
Open command prompt as administrator and type: bcdedit /deletevalue increaseuserva. That deletes the entry.
Reboot and you are back to normal

6. Problems you have encountered with details

1st issue: Since the patch the first time I try to play MP I get "BF3 has stopped working". After restarting it's fine. Unlike other people I was not suffering this problem before the patch.

2nd Issue: My commo rose sometimes sticks on screen and won;t go away.

3rd issue: After playing for a few games, the mouse no longer works with the deploy button and I have to use the enter key to begin a game.

1. Chipset Intel x58. i7 [email protected]
2. Graphics card manufacture & model & Drivers e.g. AMD HD6950 ul shaders Catalyst 11.10
3. Install location of game: Origin default
4. Copy of BF3: Origin pre-order.
5. Operating system: W7 64 Ultimate
6. Problems:

1) BF3.exe will often crash the first time loading in the day. It takes ages too first load with frantic hard drive activity. Doesn't switch to the game automatically but just crashes in the background and lets me know when I switch to the window.

1) Chipset Intel X58: i7 920 @4Ghz
2) nVidia GTX580 with 285.79 beta's
3) Forte 7.1 & Corsair HS1's for audio
4) Install location: (SSD) H:\Origin\Origin Games
5) Copy of BF3: Origin pre-order
6) OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 inc all updates
7) Problems: Non. Stutter/frame skip free. No crashing at all.
8) Punkbuster update (I check for updates every day)

Everything is set to Ultra apart from the following:

Antialiasing Post OFF (as it blurs the screen too much)
Motion Blur OFF
Motion Blur Amount OFF
Antialiasing Deferred 2x MSAA
Anisotropic Filter 4x
HBAO
VSYNC On
Solid 60FPS on all maps. (Will dip to mid to low 50's depending on how much is going on but this is only really on large maps)

Whenever I update my graphics drivers I do the following in this order:

1) Uninstall everything through Programs & Features (requires a couple of reboots)
2) When it's all uninstalled I'll reboot the PC (not into safe mode)
3) Run Driver Cleaner.net and select everything nVidia related and remove everything. I never use Driver Cleaner as I find it knackers my system up (that was when I was running ATI. I don't know about nVidia)
4) Reboot again.
5) Run Crap Cleaner and run the cleaner and the registry cleaner.
6) Install the new drivers making sure I tick "Perform Clean Install"
7) Reboot

I'm yet to have any issues doing it this way. It may seem a little over the top but I know I've got nothing hanging around in the background.

As for the people that can't get the game working at all, if it was me I'd make an image of my system and do a format. Start again from the very beginning and see if that helps. Also if your using onboard sound I'd suggest ditching it as it's always more problems than it's worth. Get yourself a nice new card for Xmas (not a software version) and see if that help. I'm currently running an Forte 7.1 and I have zero issues with it but I don't think you can get those in this country any more.

1) Remove your 2nd Graphics Card for the time being
2) Install your OS onto an SSD if at all possible (make sure you have set it to Advanced Host Controller Interface in the BIOS before installing the OS if your using an SSD)
3) Install your chipset drivers - Reboot
4) Install all Windows Updates - Several reboots
5) Install Graphics Drivers - Reboot
6) Install Sound Card drivers - Reboot
7) Install Origin (if possible to it's own HDD/SSD)
8) Install/Download Battlefield 3
9) Run the Punkbuster update and update Battlefield 3
10) Set everything to medium but use your native resolution even if you have an high end PC.

See how that goes over a day or so and if everything is running fine crank it up to high and repeat. I would also have no Antivirus/Firewall present on your system if all your doing is playing Battlefield 3. If you are tempted to goto those "educational web sites" then yes, install it ! If everything is running fine after several days then start to install other software one by one and checking that Battlefield 3 is still running fine. I say this as I have an issue with ObjectDock and 3dMark 2011. The benchmark will not run whilst ObjectDock is running. It took me a while to work this one out !

Thinking on. If your getting random lock-ups or BSOD's and your using a OCZ Agility 3, make sure you have the very lastest Firmware as it's a known issue with these drives. I'm sure by now it's been sorted out but if it was me I'd take it out and leave it out whilst testing.

Hope this helps someone :)

I'm getting the following error since the patch -

Game disconnected: you were kicked by PunkBuster. Stated reason: PunkBuster kicked player 'XXXXXX' (for 0 minutes) ... RESTRICTION: Service Communication Failure: PnkBstrA.exe

I've tried reinstalling punkbuster and updating it for BF3 as well as disabling my AV and firewall (neither of which I should have to do.....)

No same issues did this though

run command prompt as admin and type bcdedit/set increaseuserva 2500
press enter
reboot
