Battlefield 3 technical thread. Post in here for help with crashing/lock ups etc.

I get this error now, with both the latest official driver and the latest beta

DirectX function "GetDeviceRemovedReason" failed with
DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED: Hardware device removed.. GPU:
"NVIDIA Geforce GTX 560", Driver:28579. This error is usually caused
by the graphics driver crashing; try installing the latest drivers. Also,
make sure you have a supported graphics card with atleast 512MB.

I've just added a second GTX 560 and every other game works fine with SLI enabled except BF3. I either get the above error or if it doesn't crash then in game performance is lower than with one card.

I've tried to get a refund from EA Live chat but they can't refund because I bought it retail. They said I had to send my game back to them for them to send me a new a sealed game to return to the original retailer.

I've spent longer trying to resolve problems with this POS software than any other piece of software ever and more time than I spend actually playing the game. What's more annoying is the zero problems I had with the Alpha and Beta.

I get the same problem with eyefinity. so for now Im playing with a single monitor. Its got to be a game fix, as some people dont have the same problems.

BF3 is not fit for purpose.

It's the most broken piece of software since Games For Windows Live, which insists I live in an unsupported country most of the time or I'm not connected to the internet the rest of the time.

If you log on to battlelog and go to forums type. Memory leak / 32 bit Windows / crash FIX into search. This I believe will sort out your problem, follow the instructions to the letter and it will let you know. I had the same problem with only being able to play 5 minutes and then crashing, this solved the problem. Also there is a link on that page that gives other useful fix.

Thanks...

But have you also got onboard sound? have you tried disabling it and seeing if it crashed? in beta i had the problem and replaced onboard sound with a asus d2x sound card and since have had no problems.

Nope. Realtek HD audio is disabled in BIOS, I have an Asus Xonar DG. Too much of a faf to get it out to test, BF3 will just wait til it's fixed as far as I am concerned :(

Worth pointing out I had the issue of non starting BF3.exe right from the start and have since reinstalled Windows with the latest drivers and the problem is the same. When it works it can be fantastic (as several 3am finishes can attest) but I really CBA with a game that just won't work as and when I want it to. Getting old I guess :D

BF3 - Crash to Dekstop

Hi guys,

Looks like this is a major problem.

How many here are experiencing crash to desktop in Multiplayer? I'm not sure if i happens in single player, not played enough to test. Normally by game will last about 1 and a games, before it decides to drop out.

If you google for Battlefield 3 crash to desktop, there's loads of stuff on it, but strangely nothing here?

My specs are. i7, 6gb Ram, 570 EVGA GTX HD

Been running at the game at Medium to see if that made a difference, but sadly didn't.

Seen some post about applying more voltage to the GPU.

But mine appears to be locked. But really i shouldn't need to do this.

Looks like it's over to Dice to apply a patch.

EDIT - Thanks for moving Mod. Dunno how i didn't see this thread.

Stab in the dark but are you using BF3s recommended drivers? Mine would CTD without them.

I'm using the latest drivers from nvidia. Even did a BIOS update.

EDIT - I'll try disabling the onboard sound and changing it to Hifi sound in game to see if that makes a difference?

Still getting crashes here to the point I cant even play it today,

Fed up with this game now I think I will play MW3 until they release a patch.

know its not a crash or a lockup, but an issue i had yesterday was my player was just looking at the sky and couldn't change the view.

after some help on this forum turns out it was because i had a steering wheel plugged in, had to unplug the usb connection and all was fine.

Kinda find it odd, that of all the new games to have come out BF3 is causing people issues. I have been having problems with BF3 as well, but I have put the game on hold until a fix/patch/update of some sort is released. MW3, DC Universe Online, F1 2011 are all working sweet on my machine so I see no reason to try out anything just to get BF3 working 100%. All my other games are fine. So DICE/EA need to get working on this pronto.

Yes, all well and good everyone trying this, that and the other, but ask me, I prefer to wait. I am in no hurry. Besides MW3 is keeping me very much occupied :D

My specs for those interested:

i7 920 (@ 4GHz)
6GB DDR3 RAM
4870X2
2x 500GB HDD
Creative Xtreme Music soundcard
Corsair H-50 cooler
Tagan 900W modular PSU

All my games being played on 24" Samsung LCD with a 1920x1200 res.

i occasionally get the ctd and i have to force close via taskmanager. i upped all my voltages and it seems to have reduced the number of instances it occurs.

i have sb sound card so i might remove the hdmi nvidia sound driver amend see if that helps.

My game runs beautifully/ No lag, no stuttering no issues. Until the server changes maps.- It will usually load the white smoke, then it just CTD with no warning/error at all.

Running Win 7 64 bit, but tried the mem fix anyway.
Downgraded to 11.8 ati drivers.
Uninstalled/reinstalled twice. Updated PB. Repaired the game.
Set superhub to "modem only" mode. Disabled uPnP. Port Forwardinh, lowered settings. Set all GPU settings to "Use application settings"

Specs in sig.

sry, but can't see mention of graphics card in the sig ?, might just be me :(

have you tried running without the overclock on the processor ?
Sorry, thought GPU was listed there. It's an Direct CU 2, 2GB 6950.

Tried without the CPU oc and no luck.
I was given this link earlier:
http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU124AMDCat1110PreDriverV3.aspx

and tested 1 game w/o a crash using those preview drivers. So hoping it's fixed. Have to stduy lots today though, so can't test it properly till later. But I'm not holding my breath. (When I updated PB, I got 3 games in a row w/o CTD's, and on the 4th it went back to normal) :p

I usually have a problem where on first loading of the game on multiplayer it either displays "bf3.exe has to close" or similar, or simply shows a black screen and have to restart BF3.
