@#1998

TBH you sound clueless as the next guy, now let's not drag this thread down with stupid bickering.

Back to BF3, Dice apparently really like karkand built on the FB2 engine.

Na your right I haven’t got a clue, I’ve only run a BF clan with 50 active members, 4 busy servers and been competitively active in BC2….. Mostly down to the hard work of the TFU admin team!!

But yeah lets not drag the thread down with irrelevant and clueless replies!

You misunderstand, theres a large reason its still got 10k players every night. It will probably out live bc2, and again there's reasons for that, and these are features. Many of which encouraged an active competitive scene.

Whilst BC2 has been without doubt a good game for the pc, it was for many only half a game. I don't think many would argue if I were to say that it wont be played in 6 years time. From a personal pov I don't think it would have been as popular had the pc platform not been starved of product for a long time. Again personally, I disliked public BF2 for many reasons. I don't think ranks have brought anything positive to the series either.

definetly agree. BC2 felt more like a COD game but with vehicles. that is not what many BF pc fans wanted. all we wanted was BF2 done using the frostbite engine.

He's just approaching it from a casual game pov Goon, he's their target now because its an easier (don't read less worth) target to please. The bottom line is EA / DICE don't want a product still being played beyond the income target because they stop making money. BF3 will be followed by BF4 inside 12 months. A long shelf game of the magnitude of BF2 would be a disaster.

There's going to be unique features on the PC version of this game

In other news PC BF3 will be getting some Dice love big time, consoles will not be the place to have the true BF experience.

However, DICE boss Karl Magnus Troedsson admitted that developing the game on PC will inevitably lead to the non-360 and PS3 SKU being the most advanced option.

"PC is the leading platform, conceptually, for this game, definitely. We are going to make this game on 360 and PlayStation 3 as well, [but] we need to scale it down to those platforms," he told the latest issue of PC Gamer in a special preview.

"The PC players are going to love to hear that, but it's a fact. The hardware specs on the console are limited. At the same time, for each iteration on these console platforms we can utilise the power of them better and better, so what we do on the other platforms is going to be amazing, and look much better on the PC too.

He added: "There's going to be unique features on the PC version of this game, some of which I think people are going to be very pleased about. I can't reveal all of them... but I can reveal that there will be a lot of extra love put into the PC version of this product."

With all due respect, I'm not sure you know what "dice love big time" means, whilst the pc will undoubtly be the better platform to play it, it still won't be a true BF (in its purest form) experience.

You played have you? don't judge until the beta hits. No mod tools does not mean it won't be a true BF game for 99.9% of players. Even though it's a sequel to BF2, that does not mean it has to be an exact replica that would be boring, BF2 had its fair share of balance and other problems, it was/is not perfect.

I base my opinions on many things. But they are after all only opinions. I don't mind being wrong, but I doubt I will be. There's no definitive answer from them on mod tools or unranked, and if they arent included then life goes on. It is after all only a game and I'm old enough to not be that fussed if they tank it.

I stand by my opinion though that the best way to ever experience a BF game is got through scrims, the beer suppressed tension of going up against a known good team with points and bragging rights at stake are really gaming gold moments. We had a post on our site a few weeks back that brought back some mad memories, the pc had strike force, quake and a few other fps which were good for their time and passed the time, then DICE, an unknown Swedish dev dropped 1942 on us. It landed without warning. It was years ahead of anything else out there, the first time you played Omaha beach and ran onto the land and a tank rolled past you, you litteraly **** your pants. It's a pity if you've never experienced that because if you had you would know what people mean.

I still get them classic moments in BF2 on most nights in a great squad with a top squad leader, I'm sure BF3 will be just as great an experience.

yep :D

basically you need mods of somekind for comp scene . without them no one will do ladders or comps , leagues . wont matter for pub gaming though.

mods go against dlc which ea and activision want you to buy.

out of curiosity what are you going to need to mod in bf3 for competitive play?

Certain weapons would probably be stripped or limited, hard to say without seeing it, hence really why all it needs in an unranked server release and possibly a way to exec a cfg file. The whole thing falls apart though if you can't restart a round VIA rcon from day one, ala bc2. It needs basics though like pdss and demo rec, which they say is in.

oh dear removing weapons?

are you one of the people that demands removal of the awp in cs?

Also why exactly do you need a mod to do that surely you're just disqualified for using it in a match?

Na, I've never asked for anything to be removed ever, It wasn't my decision to make. If it was removed, it was removed, it was left in..... Nothing in a game really bothers me that much.
Its a choice of the ladder team tbh, but It was more directed at things like the medic train of BC2 etc that unbalanced and ruined small scale stuff which is how scrims are more often than not done. I don't think anything was removed from BF2 at all the only real difference was that ladder matches IIRC were played on tier 1 kits only as it was a setting in the config (yes we had access to config files in BF2).

with regards just not using it, its a very hard thing to police. Why make it hard for teams when a simple cfg exec can just remove/limit it.

Exactly this.

To make the game competitive, the game doesn't need modding in any way, shape or form. It would simply be different configs to run scripts on the server, in much the same way that BF2 does, and pretty much every other game out there. Competitive "Mods" are actually just config scripts loaded together to make it easier for you to manage, there is no "modding" going on whatsoever.

A mod is something that drastically changes the game, like CS is a mod of Half-Life; Project Reality is a mod of BF2, etc etc...

Some people clearly have no experience of managing / admin'ing servers lol :D

Gah what memories:) I remember my Mrs buying it for Xmas, got the festivities out the way, Boxing day, loaded up 1942 at about 5pm next thing its 6.30am, revolutionary at the time.

During one clan match we were getting murdered on Wake, over TS comes the immortal line 'lets hide' y fondest gaming memories.

The nearest i got to that experience was with RO, played that for 18 months and have been waiting a couple of years for something that grabs/amazes/thrills me, fingers crossed BF3 may come good, if not i know ROHOS will.
