It should be a decent game. But then it's made by EA so it means its probably been made by monkeys on speed. Yes BC2 was (note : Past tense) a good game if you can get past the annoying hard restart problems because they can't produce a fix for a glaring problem that only apparently appeared "after release". Furthermore, their BC2 page and google are littered with BC2 crash hard restart problems. So as is the case with EA release a good game which is crippled by the crap they couldn't be arsed to fix and then move onto the next bigger and brighter project.

Rant over :D

I wouldn't say that's a rant, i'd say it's more a fact.

seems to be a reocuring thing with EA there was a stupidly long thread on the tiberium wars forums something crazy like 101 pages long with people having crashing issues after less than a minutes pllay which EA never fixed

They probably spend as much time sitting around the conference call tables as they do developing a Pc game thesedays...

Back in 2005, it was all so simple for BF2...

DICE gave us dedicated servers, mod tools, unlocks and generally left the community alone to do what it wanted...

Come 2010 and now they have to decide what they give us and what they leave out in order to rip us off later down the line with DLC....

Extra maps....free with patch in 2005....£5 DLC in 2010

Weapon unlocks....free with ranking up in 2005....£5 DLC in 2010

Dedicated Servers....of course what else is their in 2005.....2010,do we go with dedi servers or the crapper but cheaper for DICE P2P method....

Mod Tools....of course, we like what you guys do with that in 2005.....2010 no chance, surrender our ability to fleece you guys 6mths down the line with paid for DLC....

Pfft...it was all so simple in 2005...:(

It's because they know they can rip-off console ****tards with silly DLC gimmicks and think they can do the same on the PC.

Some games have DLC which is worth buying, which extends the game and story, things like Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2, but ridiculous skins for weapons and players have no place being DLC's in Online shooter games. Maps once upon a time were given free, modders would create free maps for players and it would keep the community alive, take away the modding, take away the freedom and the game community dies. This is why TF2 is still 1 of the most popular shooter games out there, the community is great, people always modding new game modes, always thinking of different things to give other community members and giving their own time for free to give Valve some new items that they can include into TF2 in future updates.

The way the industry is going and has been creeping towards for a while now, is how to monetize everything.

Next it will be you need to pay on going fees to play online multiplayer.... hang on?

There where rumours the COD devs where already thinking about doing this!!

Dont get me wrong I think this is great, and would hope other games do the same.

But the devs would say "Yea, but how do WE make money in such a system"?

The problem is that what you are describing is an era of PC gaming that is being fazed out.... its all about the bottom line, and making the most money in the shortest time.

lets face it if bf3 isnt a steaming pile of ****e id be mega surprised. the way dice are going with EA i have very little hope that this will be anything like bf2.

im more then up for being proved wrong.

Well they have to make up the money lost to piraters somehow.

OcUK members should form a game production company and produce what people really want. How hard can it be to produce a fantastic 3D game :p.

But are online fps really pirated all that much. In my experience it's single player games that really suffer from pirating.
If someone illegally torrents an online game it's highly unlikely they can register to get on the multiplayer servers. They end up playing the single player variant (if any) or possibly on unranked non-punkbuster servers (though these are generally just hackers who bought legit copies of the game)
