I had it pre-ordered on amazon for £30 ish but my imaptience (and the fact I thought I would be playing the 25th and not the 28th) I canceled it and ordered it for £40 from origin. If vpn works then sweet but if not I just spent an exytra tenner :(

Well at least you'll get it anyway, and a tenner isn't the end of the world. Same goes for "only" getting it at the official UK release date! The big decider for me is that I'm in work all Friday, so pre-download or not, the earliest I'm gonna get to play it is 5pm on Friday.

but paying an extra £10 for an Origin download seems silly to me. (Yes, I know there are business reasons for it, but "pre-download for an extra tenner" doesn't seem worth it to me).

Dead Space 2 for free swung it for me, I wanted that game anyway and would have bought BF3 from somewhere for launch day, means I didn't have to wait for Dead Space 2 to be in a Steam sale plus its giving me something else to play while I wait for BF3 to unlock.

They'd stopped offering the free game by the time I decided to go in for a pre-order, took me a while to be convinced that EA weren't going to butcher BF3. I wouldn't have minded paying extra for DS2, but in saying that, I've had DS1 on my account for ages and never gotten around to playing it...!

5 days to go! cant wait...did you guys know this has already been leaked onto the scene for PS3, not sure if they can play it multiplayer but they can play it single player at least. I would have thought that game will be downloaded least out of all games though because everyone will want to buy this game for multiplayer.

I think I'll complete the single player first though because it does look amazing.

EDIT: Did you guys think the planes/helicopters drove weird? they didnt feel right to me, and really struggled to use them with mouse and keyboard. Also in the controller options it was a nightmare to get it to work with my joystick and even then it didnt feel right. I think maybe my joystick is incompatible or something because you know that thing that you can push forward or backwards which I used to use in BC2 and other battlefield games for acceleration or deceleration well in Battlefield 3 it wouldnt register that nozzle, it doesnt pick it up in the controlls which was annoying. My joystick is probably over 5 years old, it only cost £29 and its a microsoft sidewinder. It's always been good tho upto now. I use it for a helicopter game I've got called "Apache Air Assault" which I absolutely love.

And on the eighth day, the Lord said "let there be sick days". :D

slighly off topic but I am getting a new build which will require me to re-install windows 7 but I am curious to know if I will need to save anything for me to carry on where I left off on MP?

Yes because clearly I'm lying. I saw that i was actually only getting 30fps average and thought I would sound really cool if I told everyone it was 50fps instead. Idiot.

no need to get all shirty about it go write to all the big gaming sites who benched all the ranges of cards and show that the ati 5850 dont do that fps

i have had the card and tried it at every setting in bf3 i know what fps you get .

i get same as what i seen in the benchmarks shown by various gaming sites.

a 5850 isnt good enough for 1920 x1080p period . if it was it would be a recommended setting and it isnt . simple as that .

So in short - you're saying I'm lying.

So I just had a look at the Alpha benchmarks for the game, before the improved drivers were released, and just as I said, on high settings the 5850 comes out with an avg fps of 49 on high/1920x1080. When we played the beta, it was with the improved drivers, and I also have a slightly overclocked card, so the results on my 5850 were exactly as I stated. Care to comment? - because this seems to back up the results of my 'magic' card...

snip....

I dont play FPS on consoles, so I'll only be playing Battlefield 3 on PC obviously, but those texure packs looks like a defo need for console players, you can clearly see a big difference.

Howcome they didn't just include those textures in the original game for console owners tho, seems daft to sell them separately unless they just did it on purpose to make more money out of them.

Also you know what I've started to feel with the gaming industry, it's almost like they know they have a big gaming market for consoles and more customers so they can squeeze as much money out of them as possible but for us PC gamers I think they're heading more towards in the direction of having to look after us more and keep us happy because we're more vocal maybe and we demand the best for hardcore PC gaming so they have to caugh up dedicated servers, 64 players or 128 players, high res textures, dirext 11, teselation, etc etc....where as console players just get what they're given. Does anyone else think this?
