Battlefield 3 thread - Server details in opening post -

Will have a look at the servers later. Still not been on an OcUK one. Also, mouse should be here on Wednesday :).

Just had a read of the patch notes too. Looks like the stinger might now be able to get a lock, but the jet will just fly off and repair itself with no difficulty. Coupled with no javelin now flares will stop a laser guided weapon (guided shells included?) I fear ground troops will have next to no defence against air.

have been enjoying the rush mode :cool:nice to play rush again so much better than getting vehicle raped constantly on the hc cq one.

After reading the patch notes, why do people think jets will be useless post patch?

It seems just as much good as bad to me (and even though AA will lock on quicker etc, it now takes 3 missles to down a jet, the flares work on javelins (boo) and laser guided from tanks (double boo))

Exactly - seems to me like the jet players complaining are those who want an invulnerable killing machine. The way the patch stands, they are almost impervious to ground troops. Even if you do manage to get a lock, you have to hit, and even if you hit you'll not even disable.

Anyone else having Origin problems? Was mid-game and got discnonected, now can't log in and get told to restart Origin and try again. Rebooted computer - nada.

Edit: ^ Yes.

Edit2: It lives (18:43 UK).

The issue is the short lock on time for stingers and the inability to dodge them. If you get 1-3 engineers locking onto you from different parts of the map, there will be no way to escape. If you combine that with the mobile AA it's going to render them pointless.

How come no one complains about chopper pilots?

But flares will stop the lock/mess the missile tracking up. Given the fact that they have an 11 second cooldown in the new patch, a jet has to be hit by three separate engineers within a short space of time for a takedown. It's difficult enough to co-ordinate a SOFLAM/Javelin on a public server, let alone three engineers dedicated to AA.

Thats the interpolation slider.

Instead of drawing things on screen where it thinks they are, it instead waits for the server to tell it where things are.

Draw it all the way to the left, and it will perform no interpolation at all, and only draw updates when it receives them from the server. All the way to the right, and it will just guess and not wait at all for the server.

Usually on UK servers you can have it somewhere to the left of the middle, maybe even very low down if your connection and the servers connection is good enough. On foreign servers, draw it all the way to the right.

It may looks like it affects FPS, but its not a result of any CPU / GPU workload, it just changes the way the games draws things. If it stutters its not because the CPU is overloaded, thats the gaps in the server sending information to the client.

Empty server staring at a tunnel segment in Metro. :p I've seen what it does, and it doesn't change the interpolation. It sends updates more often but doesn't receive more updates (so it expects an update after sending, doesn't get one and often you see folk doing 360's :p because the server or client isn't sending to your client fast enough).

Like DG said, it's a placebo since sending updates about yourself won't improve your hitreg nor make any difference to players who don't touch it.

Found this on battlelog forums, sounds interesting......

Hello and good morning.

EDIT: The best way to reach and follow me is via my twitter: twitter.com/gustavhalling

Just to clarify:
As you should understand I can't talk freely about Armored Kill for a while but hopefully I can comment or answer of some of the questions.

I will also NOT answer about the parts I haven't worked on since I don't know the reasoning behind things, these includes:
Minimap, brightness, art direction, menu screens including spawn screen, VOIP.

Many of the questions I know people been asking and wants include things I can't answer yet but it may come as a surprise the coming weeks
PS3 players will probably notice some of the things that aren't in the patch notes on tuesday.

BF3
Commo Rose
This is a feature that was added very very late before ship by request from the community and we are still working on it, improving it for each update. The final goal is to make it closer to the BF2/2142 one. No plans to add it on consoles where other automated systems are in place.

Unlocks
We will not change and permanently add flares/countermeasures to vehicles.
Its a really important gameplay balance between choosing if you want to be an aggressive tanker against infantry or against vehicles. Selecting coax etc.

Assignments
Assignments are actually a big success when we been looking around.
I love the system myself since its clear and easy to see what you need to do.
HOWEVER, I do agree on that the squad deathmatch one wasn't the best one and I will make sure we do not add "win x times" to such a specialized game mode to it again.

Armored Kill
Mobile Artillery
The artillery system is something I am working on still so I can't say how it will end up.
I do understand your thoughts about team play but I don't want a system where you can't be effective by yourself. We did that in 1942 and it crashed and burned badly :P
However I´m not saying the mortar system is the best but its a start and we are making improvements based on feedback from players on it with every patch.

I would love to get ideas for it, some guide lines and questions:
- Needs to be fully effective without help from others
- How would the aiming screen look like? camera / minimap?
- How would team mates be able to help?

Map sizes
As the announcements said AK will have some of the biggest maps ever made.
I would compare them against Fusshe Pass, Dragon valley and Wetlands.
But than you have to realize that even if they are the same size in meters the vehicles and soldiers have different speeds in the games so its hard to compare 1-1.

Flags will also be less clustered in general in AK giving more room for vehicles but at the same time we can't forget about infantry also.
Its a hard balance that we are working on all the time.

But I truly believe that the maps AK delivers will offer 4 different styles from the biggest most spread out flags and size to the more normal size more comparable to caspian border.
Fantalhunta, frajerik, NoireRoboT and 56 others like this.
