People using the minimap to the extent of not using anything else is fail is what I was saying. Yes, its a tool that is there to be used but the game offers more than just that to tell you what is going on around you. Audio cues for example, if someone wants a lift, they will say it.

If anything, this should encourage teamplay since its more dangerous to move off alone. With the minimap you could CoD style rambo knowing that the minimap would act like a safety net. Now it isn't there you should be playing with your squad. Even if you cant talk to them on Teamspeak you can still set up perks and classes so health and ammo shouldn't be an issue.

What I meant when I said harder to pick people up who want a lift is that when they call you don't know if its someone close by or someone on other side of the map. If your in a vehicle and someone asks for a lift it seems anyone in a vehicle gets the message rather than just the person they are actually asking. With the minimap you could glance at it quickly and see the person calling if they are near to you.

Still think teamplay is better with it as when working in a squad you can spot people to high light them on the minimap. Seen as the game doesn't support voice comms its one of few ways to communicate with random squad mates quickly.

Personally I prefer it on but can live with it off if needs be.

Just come off the AK server after a very brief game. I conclude that I really don't like having no mini-map. I don't know these maps, at all, so I have no clue where vehicles are etc. So it took a lot of the fun out of it for me. I was basically spawning in the middle of god knows where, missing the mini-map for a bit and then dying so I left lol

/edit I could probably get used to it, but I use it a LOT in game, to the extent that I almost always have it maximized. That way when I'm on a map I don't know and I hear footsteps to my right, I can take a quick glace down on the map to see what the terrain is like and work out where people are likely to be. Instead of just running blindly round a corner and hoping for the best.

Couple of things..

I seem to have issues with SLI at the moment. Two 670s and the GPU usage is all over the place yet CPU usage is at 100% constantly pretty much. Does this mean i've got a CPU bottleneck? CPU is a 3570k at 4.5GHz and i've got 8GB memory.

Secondly I also get random freezes but this only happens in BF3. Could be after a few minutes or an hour, the game will just freeze, black screen and I have to do a hard restart. Any ideas?

Not played without minimap yet but think without it will have a worse effect on the already almost non-existent teamplay element to this game. Does it also mean that the expanded/full map is also not available?

i think mini map and spotting ruins the fun a lot just look for spots rather than try to find eneies but on the other hand no mini map or spotting=

Camp city plus sniper fest especially with no kill cam

so overall better with spot and map

Make sure you play on this AK server. :)

Mini map spotting disabled, but we've decided to keep the mini map for now until (if) dice can fix the bugs with the mini map off.

This is exactly why dice held off on removing the mini map for so long.

It splits the hardcore community right down the middle

Forget that it doesn't work. If you have the mini map on you must have mini map spotting on by default. LAME!!

However all is not lost. Everyone, even the haters, post your support for this!!

Keep the mini map but allow us (if we so desire) to disable mini map spotting.

I don't see what everyone has against mini map spotting? Yeah 3d spotting is awful but sureely mini map spotting helps teams work together. There's no in game voice chat so you need some way of communicating with teammates. Or do you just want to jump on TS and spank randoms even more so

Probably the best suggestion to come out of the Battlelog forums ever tbh

Far better suggestions than that! :p

And also, all the threads asking to remove their crappy blue filter and tweak the colours to actually be colourful and have some life to the game etc. or at least give the option.

With regards to the mini map, bad decision removing the spotting and mini map in HC mode, already no teamwork whatsoever in that game mode (unless on TS/mumble with stacked teams ), especially compared to SC and just makes camping a hundred times worse. At least it will be easier to spot the wall hackers as they don't have this reason to use any more "you where spotted on the mini map"

Those UI's look pretty good.

Agree 100% about mini map though I find their to be more Teamwork in HC than SC
