The current BF3 and Battlelog outages are a result of activity that appears to be aimed at overwhelming our game servers. We will provide up to date information on our official channels, including the Battlefield Twitter account. Thanks for your patience!

Excuse or actually being DDoSed? YOU DECIDE.

Pretty strange it affects PC online only......eh?

Well given the response by EA,

The current Battlefield 3 outages are a result of activity that appears to be aimed at overwhelming our game servers

it looks like some *****(s) have targeted the servers. What people get out of doing this I have no idea.

edit: didn't realise it hasn't affected console players, so what has been attacked?

Maybe there are servers specifically for PC backend? If the problem was so simple surely all they would have to do is create a buffer or block ips overwhelming the servers... why has it take so long to even identify the problem?

DDoS is never a simple problem to resolve.

But it should be easy to identify in the first instance and someone like EA should have some kind of contingency for something like this.

Battlelog is an authentication based service, just lock it down so only authenticated users can login and use it for now........auth servs should ALWAYS be isolated from the actual meaty stuff so this, in theory, should provide some level of protection from random, non-authed attacks.

The reliance on Battlelog to even PLAY is stupid.

As long as server is up, and I have a connection to it I should be able to play, just without the additions Battlelog brings - Tracking/friends etc.

Being ENTIRELY reliant on EA for even basic online play is lame.

d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-DRM. :)

Wonder if it could be DDOS attacks.

For 3 days?

Ah hell, one of those rare times when I wish I had been wrong!

So - targeting PC Online only, to me means some malicious script-kiddy type tactics. The utterly scary thing is that they have managed to completely devalue DICE's product by effectively killing the Multiplayer offering! DICE not resolving it quickly does not make me feel good at all.

Apparently steam went down last night (midnight) both the client and website. I know never winter nights also went down. Wonder if it it is all related...

Just shows how useless EA are. This problem has been on going for a week now.
Took them about a month to sort the sims problem out, this looks like its heading the same way.

There really needs to be a law, where customers should get some money back. Total fiasco, I pay for a game I cant play. Joke of a company

Not going to buy anything with EA logo on it.

Great news that Crysis 3 and Dead Space 3 did not meet the sales expectations. Could not have happened to a better company. May it long continue.

Couldnt really care less about servers not working im so busy at work with overtime I dont get home until 3:30 am and the only decent servers at that time are US ones and they dont seem to be affected by this DC problem ;)

Some unranked servers work fine also which is good for dogfighting :)
