Personally I found learning to fly helis to be a pretty quick process, I just use the keyboard, WASD plus arrow keys! 
You just have to play like a coward if you want to stay up in the air for longer than 5 minutes i.e. once you use flares to cancel one of the many lock ons, fly way of and wait for flares to reload then go in for a pass, rinse and repeat or just stay out of lock on range and let the gunner do all the killing. Although if you have a good jet on the other team and a crap gunner then there is nothing that you can do!
Due to the same old boring technique above, I don't really bother with aircraft in this game as I just find it incredibly tedious
Also, don't go too low otherwise you are a very easy target for a decent tank driver.

Yeh I got nailed by a tank a couple of times practicing my low flying

You can't really say there never was a BF3 competitive scene. Fair enough it didn't take off but there was dozens of Go4BF3 tournaments every week, a few LAN tournaments (DreamHack/iSeries) and still a few active ESL ladders and people playing versus. Not that anyone would trust your opinion anyway as you seem to know absolutely nothing about the BF3 competitive scenetis true there is no comp scene for bf3 why is that hard to acknowledge?
there never has been just a few groups of decent people.
bf3 is decent its just a couple of things would have made it awesome. hopefully bf4 rectifies it but it still wont be a comp game regardless.
you just get constant badgering or abuse before getting kicked from the squad for having a duplicate perk for longer than 30 seconds

was going to play in leagues ladders in bf3 started early and there was nothing !
only league i could even find was a low skilled american twl ladders which meant we had to play teams at silly times and we all had stupid pings (200) and wouldn't of worked.
so if there was a scene with enough in i would have played there wasn't. while there was a few things little later by enlarge there was nothing compared to proper comp games like cod 4 cs and such.

DICE should have implemented something that chose the perks for the squad members automatically.
A little warning saying something like "A member of your squad is already using this perk, perks are not stackable please chose wisely" or similar would be a nice touch.

Wasn't a legitimate post, someone has told him there was a competetive scene and he's denying all trace of it because he couldn't find it.

Half the time I spawn without looking. Once I've died (doesn't take long) I sort them out. Can make a huge difference in a 4 man squad and all perks sorted.
Oh can I add another pet peeve which is people jumping in the vehicles and then proceeding to the nearest flag that any number of people who are on foot could have picked up.

there was and hasn't been a scene for competitive bf3. even EA have said its not competitive game. most big leagues ladders whatever never did much in bf3.
i have played for years in many of the places you say do have a bf3 scene it isnt there
agree don't agree cod 4 was brought up with cs because they are competitive proper games bf3 is not.im not denying there hasn't been a couple of places that have tried to make bf3 comp but on the whole its not a comp game in the true sense.
this is why promod was tried but stopped. you need mod support for bf3/4 to be comp it wont get it ever.

I don't have an issue with you as a person, it's your posts I have an issue with. Constantly backed up with I have many years experience, I know everything, therefore I am right.

only place that had even a ladder was one place at the time which was american league .
yes a few places popped up since and odd lans but by enlarge its not a comp game. that is why people tried to make a promod for bf3 guess what no support it stopped because EA doesn't support modding .
