Me too, I have the same card but I think it would be well worth waiting until at least Autumn before upgrading and seeing what cards are out then.

No point in upgrading now for a game that's probably 7-8 months away, I'm waiting until a couple of weeks before release and gona buy the best i can afford...Already started saving. :D

I have ridiculous expectations for BF3 due to how much I loved BF2, if it doesn't live up to them it will probably mean the end of gaming for me.

I agree.

If it doesnt live up to the name and is a port, majority of pc gamers will be very angry and probably not care anymore.

it will start ratcheting up with crysis 2, if thats a port

In my opinion for all old timers in the pc gaming community they would feel same, its only the new young pc gaming siblings that wont understand where im coming from.

Probably the best idea.

I have been looking at upgrading recently and got quite excited about it. Was looking at a new GPU and Mobo + maybe a new case. I've even got a web page open currently on a product page with the graphics card I want on it.

But then I realise that the system I have at the moment is completely fine for what I use it for. It was happy with Crysis at decently high settings. Its happy with BC2 on full settings (but DX10). The only time I notice performance issue is when I scope in when its smoky and dusty; but that's not an issue really. So really, I dont need to upgrade.

Instead, maybe I will wait, treat myself in the summer with something better.

I'm only upgrading now as my birthday is 2 weeks today and I want to play Crysis 2 on full settings! Sick of my 3 year old PC being sluggy and having problems.

If I spend £1000ish on a new system it should be more than good enough to run BF3 on high settings and any other games released in the next few years :)

Everything you have said makes perfect sense. Until I looked at your sig.... your current setup is really good, what you planning on upgrading to?

5870 probably won't be able to max it with decent frames, judging from what's been seen.

The Dev team has basically been playing with 580's SLI'd, so expect something like that to be giving you a good frame rate at max graphic settings.

Ah man, really? So my 5850 will get chewed. Doh. I was hoping to keep that card but upgrade from my current setup to a decent overclocked i7 of some kind. Re-think on the cards!

Can't say for sure, but even from the trailer, the graphics, the destruction, everything, it just LOOKS like it's going to be very demanding, more-so than Crysis 2 or any other game coming out this year.

I'm just going to guess, but I think to max it you'll need 1 very powerful GPU, like a 6950/6970 or a 570/580 overclocked but even that may not allow you to ramp up the AA, or of course 2 lesser GPU's in SLI/xfire would work. But the thing is, these estimates are coming from BC2 and how Frostbite 1.5 ran, it could be a complete different story for Frostbite 2.0 which has been built for the PC, and a 5850 may be able to max it out. You'll have to wait till the beta to find out.

Think this will be my first crossfire game, another 6950 clocked to 6970 on release should do me :D

Hopefully it'll have even more awesome eyefinity support than BC2.

Well i suppose by the time its finally released the graphics cards will be cheaper. Though i am somewhat skeptical as to just how good GPU it needs, judging by my time on BC2 with an i5 and 5970 the GPU had no trouble with it but the CPU was maxed out pretty much constantly and back here my FPS doesn't get much lower when i up graphics.

at the mo i have a 570, DDR2 and a Q6600. i can run bc2 maxed out with no problems, getting a constant 60fps. bc2 is cpu thirsty with all cores around 90% all th time.

im guessing when bf3 comes out ill need to upgrade my cpu to a i5/i7 and ddr3 to play on high to max settings.
