Battlefield 4 Thread ~ Server details in opening post ~

Doesn't always matter, this depends on the gun!

Anyone put this to the test for real?

Helmets are designed to deflect bullets and absorb energy from shapnel. A well designed Kevlar helmet can move the ballistic off centre and change the bullet path maybe just enough to prevent a fatal head wound. They certainy can't stop large caliber rounds from assault rifles at close range. But surely if a ballistic vest can stop a 9mm so too will a heavy kevlar helmet?

Any Military Personnel on here?

I used to do work for SCRDE who amongst other things designed/tested helmets worn by UK troops in the 80s/90s. Its not however my area of expertise but from what I did see in testing some people in this thread are a bit off the mark.

TBH though its not something that you can pin down exactly - while a helmet might stop or deflect the energy from a certain round in testing, in the field in a different scenario with a different set of parameters it might not work so well and vice versa.

So whats your opinion? Do you have quantifiables.

Level 3 helmets will easily stop 9mm rounds at very close range.

ive seen a british mk6 with a 9mm hole in both sides  (the nylon had made a wierd sort of melty shape coming out of the exit hole) but meh you may well be correct

liking the game itself but very disliking:

having to unlock everything again (like someone above was saying) - even the same weapons i have already unlocked in BF3 - AGAIN :(
played for a fair few hours already and only have 1 rifle about 3/4 of its addons, no extra pistols (not even addons yet) it would take many hours to experiment with all the options anyway so is having to unlock them so neccessary? if your game is so dull that its the only way to keep people playing then there is no point in playing it

seems to be too many tanks / helis etc on some levels, I like having them in the game, as it mixes things up a bit, but too many and you just constantly get hammered by tank after tank after tank and it gets pretty dull/frustrating

Someone has to step up, my rage has spanned generations of games, I broke a few monitors and keyboard playing UO and CS :p

It wouldn't be the same without your rage.

I'm busy running against rocks and spinning on the spot until I get the hurry up from you:

Will: 'Ad, what the #### are you doing outside on your own, stop fighting people and get over here to capture this point'

Ad: I just jumped off the mountain...... Weeeeeeeeee

yea the unlocks are a bit silly for the weapons, having like 4 different types of everything where they pretty much do the same thing in some circumstances...bit pointless.

was getting annoyed last night, was going for the unlock of the l96 sniper (so need 3 sniper ribbons, check! and then in a round a DMR, shotgun and c4 kill all as recon). I managed to get the shotgun and dmr kills within about 30 seconds of spawning xD but the c4... my god! I just couldn't get it for the life of me! was conquest large on rogue transmission (vehicles I thought... easy c4!) but our team was too good! we won by about 600 tickets and I could never get close enough to enemies to use c4 as they would get destroyed before I got there! I did get a c4 kill but it was as support so messed up on that one xD

ended up getting it next round though playing domination, again, dmr and shotgun... matter of seconds... c4...trickier I found as we kept getting out in the open spawns. I managed to stumble upon a guy who was sat on an ammo box reload so threw it and ran. thankfully I got it and the round didn't crash xD hoooorah!

I think data above suggests that a class III ballistic helmet can stop rounds that possess certain attributes that relate to round weight and velocity (kinetic energy) as given about.

I never referred to the Kevlar mk6 specifically. (Probably a class I helmet lol)

9mm through and through on a mk6 seems a bit rare - IIRC they are designed to deform and stop a 9mm round from close range being fatal as part of the basic spec. On the other hand most assault rifle rounds would be fatal from closer range but they can reduce the damage from being fatal from most standard NATO AR rounds in the 5.56 and 7.62mm caliber at ranges >100m. (This isn't a given though and will depend on a lot of factors).

What is it with people who don't hack but finish like 27-1 k.d? I was playing against a guy earlier like this, I saw 2 RGO grenades go off at his feet and myself and another team mate both put a full mag into him, he one shots both of us and it says HEALTH 100%... so about 70 bullets + 2 grenades within 1m and he has 100% health?

He finished 40 kills 1 death, capping flags so it wasn't even like he was sniping cowardly!

Did he have a higher ping?

Some people seem really hard to get hits to register on though - one guy last night constantly finished most rounds with 21-0 type scores and I couldn't land hits on him to save my life and his ping wasn't that bad (70-80ms).

Its a long time ago and wasn't an area I worked in directly but I did see the test rig in action a bit and have a general idea of what was what. (I was mostly involved in the materials (mostly the leathers) used for boots and gloves).

id split it into two catagories :

1) most people with very high K/D ratios (20-1 or 20-0), are usually doing 1 thing over and over with impunity - usually a sniper who hasnt been spotted (or is on a high roof ) or a tank or heli with engineers following them

2) dudes who are just good all round, who usually end up 40-8 or something, who when you look at their score have been playing for 500+ hours in total

although yeah some dudes just dont die when you shoot em, ive had situations where everything is fine till I start shooting at the bloke and all of a sudden he glitches around all over the place (usually its the high pingers that get this added bonus)
