BBC possibly to drop F1 coverage...

Ok, but I want all of those things which is why I don't think it's a bad deal, and you won't get all of those things anywhere cheaper.

actually its VERY easy to get all those things cheaper - apart from the content

£200 hd recorder (if not cheaper) if you pay over 3 years - which is a reasonable life time for a device like this - £70/year

broadband and phone line deals are 10 a penny these days - but you can easily get this for well under £200/year

Its the content Sky charge an arm and a leg for

I would love BT vision to do HD sky but I doubt that will ever happen - unfortunately, so even then its not directly comparable with the HD BBC service we are getting now (unless BT vision has "delayed" broadcast rights to HD sky....that Im not sure about)

edit anyone know anything about "shared" dishes for seperate flats. Im in one of these buildings and I just dont trust being able to watch/record fulll HD quality while sharing with god knows how many other sky users

The amount of users doesn't matter, it isn't 'shared' like that. Bit like if you ran a few TVs off one aerial for example. My grandparents have Sky HD+ in their retirement flat which is on a shared dish, on the furtherest distance away (ground floor, other end of the building) and the quality is perfect.

So, what is the cheapest way of getting all the races?
I'm not interest in free calls, phone lines, hd recorders or any other tv content. I only want to watch the races live...nothing more.

BT Vision is about £32 + £17 for the Sky Sports channels
Sky TV is about £50 for a package with Sky Sports
Freeview TopUp TV is £32.99 a month for Sky Sports channels
No idea what Virgin Media is but I imagine it will be similar.

Basically, up to £50 a month to watch them all live on Sky Sports.

The cheapest way will therefore be to watch some online streams of those on Sky, and watch the other half on BBC.

for everyone saying the BBC cant afford the F1 which is £50mil, why on earth do they think they can afford a £960mil move to manchester (it was manchester wasnt it).

in pretty much everyones opinion it would have been better for the BBC to stay in london, drop BBC3 and not bother cutting anything else to sort their money problems

They probably can't afford the F1 because of the £960mil move :p

There were multiple options that the BBC had on the table. Who knows the full details of how or why they chose this certain route, the fact is, they have done and we have to live with it.

In reality the number of people who are unhappy with the BBC dropping F1 is likely much fewer than those who would be unhappy about the BBC dropping BBC3 or BBC4 or the other plan to turn BBC2 into a repeats only channel.

The move to Salford is to make things cheaper in the long run by moving to better facilities. Still £960m is a lot of "things being cheaper in the long run" before it becomes a benefit. Quite why the move was decided when the poo was hitting the fan financially is beyond me, or was this at the point of no return before the banking crisis?

Kind of. Salford Quays.

The BBC decided to move to Salford to allow regions of the UK to contribute to the BBC rather than have everything London based. Still if that isn't what a capital city is for I don't know what it is for. :p

I went to Salford University and I think in about 2006 I heard about the BBC moving to Salford. This was what 2-3 years before the banking crisis took place?

virgin media £394 for first year including sky sports 1,2,3 and 4, a set top box non pvr (pvr box is an extra £49.95 plus £5 a month total £504.45 for first year)

top up TV £395.88 including a set top box and sky sports 1 and 2. no pvr unless you a different set top box.

BT Vision £256.80 for basic package with sky sports 1 and 2 including pvr box ( BT broadband needed for BT vision, cheapest BT broadband option is £267 for broadband and phone this includes the £10 line rental)

SKY £477 for basic package with sky sports 1,2,3 and 4 includes pvr box.

or alternatively watch live (well with a slight delay) in crapola quality here

for any of these packages you also need the TV License costing £145

I think many, many people will.

It doesn't represent too bad value if you get a number of packages (as I have done) and the coverage will be great.

Given that there will be no other way to watch all of the races, LOTS of people will subscribe.

I don't agree to be honest. We shall find out anyway.

I think part of the reason F1 was getting good ratings is because people had the TV license.

If it isn't there then they won't watch it.

I can afford to get the complete sky package, I don't want to because it's a complete waste of money just for F1.

Didn't cricket drop massively when it went to sky, why would f1 be any different. Isn't more than 50% of the population still only on free to air and sky sports is something like 2mill?
