BBC to show F1 from next year

Assuming the coverage is similar to that of ITV, this is really good news. The constant brakes during the F1 drive me mad!

Afaik all filming is done by F1 themselves, when I lived in Sweden there wasn't any live coverage of F1 so I had to watch it on satellite tv and I had to pick between RTL (german) and ITV through SKY (obviously I picked ITV as my german sucks:) ) but they where showing exactly the same pictures all the time.

Now this might have changed but somehow I think old Bernie likes to have total control of everything thats F1 so I think that means F1 has their own broadcasting crew doing all the filming and feeds.

The coverage of Moto GP on the BBC, is very good, and i can only expect the F1 coverage to be better,

Will it remain so, I wonder? Or will F1 push it off its hill?

I dunno; on the one hand I'm quite pleased the BBC has got it back. On the other I don't really think this was a good use of license money. I don't think the BBC should be involved in big money ratings chasing like this.

I'm unimpressed by this move tbh, the current coverage is alright and the only problem is the ad breaks.
I can imagine the BBC cutting away to horse racing like the days of old or ending coverage to show eastenders or some other rubbish.

If the BBC ruin F1 coverage (again) for this country then I don't think I could ever forgive them.

I wouldn't :(

As much of a legend as JC is, there is a time and place for him, F1 certainly isn't it :p
I completely agree :) which is why it would be funny, not Clarkson being funny himself but the thought of him presenting it and irritating people ;)

Hmm, no advert breaks will be nice but I can just imagine the BBC cutting away from the race to broadcast Songs of Praise or something like that. It would also be a worry that they turned F1 into The Lewis Hamilton Show, although they could scarcely be worse than ITV in that regard.

I will miss the ITV grid walks and some of the pre-race build up. They also have excellent coverage of all the politics and behind the scenes of F1. When the BBC had it they didn't cover any of that - although that was a long time ago and there was much less politics/rules changes etc to cover back then. Hopefully the BBC will try to keep a similar "format" as the ITV programme.

Can yo lot not remember when bbc had it??? they very if at all showed F1 live they always showed it at 1pm on sunday. Here's hoping they do actually show the races live otherwise its really going to suck even harder then the adverts

They only had 2 channels back then. Now they have loads of channels on Freeview that I'm sure they can always slot the F1 into.

The BBC will film in HD, I'm convinced.

If they've been shooting b-grade welsh sitcoms in HD for the past 3 years then they'll want to have the F1 in HD.

The Broadcasters all receive the signal from Ecclestones' media, so unless they film in HD from every circuit then I doubt that would happen. With HD becoming more readily available though it might happen next season.

I honestly can't see BBC making a cockup of this like they did in the old days; they realize that F1 is quite mainstream now and they have the facilities (channels) to cater for that.

Can you imagine if they didn't have any brakes though? Carnage.

not necessarily, drivers would have to adapt and manage their applicatoin of power so that they could slow down sufficiently to navigate corners using only the friction between the tyres and the road - this would be entertaining

F1 is currently not filmed in HD format and there have been no announcements to do so.

F1 has been filmed in HD for the last 2 or so years. I think Germany this season, are going to be one of the first to show F1 HD.
