BBC to show F1 from next year

Very much looking forward to the BBC getting it back. I will hope for (upscaled at least), HD coverage and more interactive services.

Also, expect their Motorsport section of the Sport website to get an overhaul.

Just heard on Radio 1... Murray did say he'd think about coming back if he was asked, but somebody would have to ask him first :)

Oh my god I would go seriously mental if he did come back!

Please please can we not organise some sort of wish list which we can forward to the BBC signed by all of us. I hope they keep the format we have now, including Martin Brundle, and show the stupid o clock races live.

It's fantastic news, hope then get martin brundle as well.

Just listened to the chain, man that brings back memories.

Hopefully they do not bring James Allen across but I would not mind seeing Martin Brundle back again. David Croft does a fine job on radio 5 so my vote goes to him (if I had one) for main commentator. I am sure Murray Walker will be doing one or two races too.

David Croft is rubbish. He's only good for short reports on the radio. Not that it has anything to do with F1, but he was rubbish doing the darts commentary too. James Allen despite his useless rambling is still better listening than David Croft.

As for the rest of the team:

Steve Ryder - No
Mark Blundell - More boring than a goalless draw- no
Martin Brundle - YES
Ted Kravitz - He has a cool name so yes
Louise Goodman - No harm in keeping her

Suzi Perry - Yes please
Tony Jardine - Old school, yes

And if Murray isn't coming back to commentate, then

Charlie Cox for commentator!
Great shout!! Ben Edwards would also be good I reckon

Erm, yes it has and is, as you can watch it at selected Vue cinemas in HD

That was upscaled HD. The FOM dont even have HD cameras to shoot the race in HD! So how on earth can it be HD?

And i also went to VUE for the British GP last year, needless to say it was a waste of £15. The signal kept breaking up and the commentators where rubbish.

F1 will be ruined for me if Suzi Perry presents it unless she plays a similar roll to Louise Goodman. Woman CAN NOT commentate at all on any sport. Ever watched a footy match with that woman commentating? It makes the game terrible!

I want to know how much the BBC paid for this. ITV dropping it just as Lewis H. is increasing the viewing figures does not make any sense whatsoever. ITV may say it was a business decision but you'd need to be an idiot to believe that rubbish. Like Murray said, I think there is more to this than we currently know.

Why is the figure paid not being disclosed? Surely licence-fee payers have a right to know how their money is being spent. We all know Jonathan Ross gets 18 million of it so come on BBC, what was Bernie's price?

Rumours are that the Beeb have paid £200m for the rights for the next 5 years. Lewis Hamilton might be increasing viewing figures for F1 but they pale into insignificance compared to the viewing figures the Champions League gets, rights for which are currently up for grabs between ITV and BBC.

I guess the reason the figures haven't been officially disclosed are because the F1 people don't want them to be - for competition reasons in future negotiations.

Edit: ITV win Champions League rights: http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2008/mar/20/itv.sportsrights

Besides some of the points that have already been made... my personal worry with this change, (as someone who works in tv/film) is that commercials bring in a lot of money. ITV can put on an hour pre-race build up because they have the stream of commercials bringing them revenue. The BBC doesn't and may opt for a shorter show.
