BBC Top Gear - Series 23 discussion thread

Watched some of this last night. I found Eddie Jordan realllllly annoying. Evans wasn't great either. Only Matt was really worth watching.

BBC news saying the average viewer count was down 1.6 million from the first episode. The Antiques roadshow had more viewers. :p

They haven't taken into account on-demand type figures yet though, and soccer aid being on itv might have hindered figures during the initial broadcast. Still, I suspect many people just aren't as interested now.

I love how people feel the need to come on here and tell people they didn't watch it but it must have been terrible...

It bears saying because it shows how far off if has fallen when previously ardent fans aren't interested in it.

I watched it again as the missus still likes it, thought it was much better if still nowhere near as good as the original.

Chris is still terrible, but at least getting Jenson Button to drive the McLaren gave it some credibility talking about the car.

I didn't watch it. My tv box recorded it, but as long as there's paint drying somewhere I can't imagine that I'll get round to it.

SIARPC needs to drop all that guff around the edges where they read from an auto cue about each other and have someone who knows about driving to commentate.

That feature has always been 90% dull. They won't save it now.

MLB continues to surprise.

No doubt, but if that's all the show has going for it, then it's not enough to persuade me to watch it.

trouble with the feature is it only works if you know and care who the star is, and for the typical top gear audience, we don't care about 95% of celebs like teenage girls do. which means if you do the segment they need to think a lot more about the guest and do the majority of the audience know and care about them, which makes booking guests much harder,

but what they did with it was make it even worse. was that weird read a thing about each other of a teleproctor still in there, that was just awkward.

hopefully they'll kick CE by end of first season and second season might be watchable.

Apparently even worse viewing ratings last night than last week. 2.8 million viewers peaking at 3.3 million. Over a million down from the first episode. A tv critic on Radio 5 live quite rightly described the problem in a nutshell... Evans and LeBlanc are trying too hard, and trying too hard to be cool. they need to relax. However he also said that the nature of TV means it's a process of fine tuning and that they rarely get everything right from the start.

Evans is still trying to justify the figures on twitter, the BBC need to shut him up because it's embarrassing.

Last season of Top Gear at this rate.

The SUV challenge was a step up from the UK/US challenge the first week.

Something was missing from the 675LT piece. Spent a long time talking about the workings of the F1 but then didn't do the 675LT the same justice. It was all a bit Clarkson 'PooooWWWWAAARRRR' smoke and wheelspins.

Still not liking the Star in a Rallicross car segment. Far to long with all the first car/first hair cut stuff.

Audience looked happlier this week at least.
