I grew one out this time last year and while really thick it just ended up aging me 10 years because there was so much grey in it, so it got lopped off.
 
I have a beard because I hate shaving. I make minimal effort to style it, I just run with designer stubble until it gets stragly and then trim it back down.

I tried letting it grow for a few weeks, bit it all sprouts in different directions and doesn't lay flat so looks awful.

Does a good job of hiding my double chin :p
 
I have a long beard, started growing it over a year ago and in that time I've only trimmed the sides of my face and around my mouth. I've had short beards on and off since my early 20's but at 34 I thought it was about time I tried out something longer.

I live in a predominately beardless area of the West Midlands so having a beard is unfortunately a bit of an oddity and invites stares and comments. Young children seem to confuse a bald man with a brown with ginger highlighted beard in his 30s as Father Christmas. Older children seem to think I am and I quote "a Taliban". I've been asked on 2 occasions by women in their 50's if my beard is something to do with religion. I'll often notice when out shopping people staring at me. One guy in a DIY store recently couldn't take his eyes off me, it was quite unnerving. I've even had someone shout "nice beard" out of a car going past. Having a beard however seems to make me more approachable as I get other men positively commenting upon it and people in general are more likely now to start a conversation with me in a shop.

There are everyday pros and cons to having a long beard. One pro is that it's great for catching things in. I was up a ladder fitting a security light and dropped a screw. My beard caught it for me :) Unfortunately this same trait is a con when it comes to eating. When making food I have to consider how I'm going to eat it. For example if I'm having soup then I have to pour it into a mug and drink it else my beard gets more than I do. In all honesty I think most food ends up in my beard regardless of how careful I am.

A beard is very much like a dog. I spend a great deal of time stroking it and it wants to get involved with everything I'm doing... getting stuck in zippers, eating my food, getting between myself and my other half when trying to hug (she has a nasty habit of spitting it out). She doesn't like it if I stroke it whilst looking at her, she thinks it's creepy which means I do it all the more.

Awesome beard story there, man. It's funny how many men compliment beards. I do it constantly when I'm drunk...I even had a weird incident where myself and another chap rubbed beards..!

The whole muslim thing really gets on my nerves, as if they have some sort of monopoly on big beards. I get this all the time because I tend to look kind of white arabic sometimes. Just leave my damn taliban beard alone, I like it!

My house mate thinks I'm weird when I just sit in the living room stroking my beard while I'm watching tv, although she also has a serious beard fetish and it has been known for her to spot a random bearded man in the street decide she likes it and go and stroke it the little fruit loop.
 
26 and I get a bit of chin hair which is separated down the middle for some odd reason.

I get some hair on my top lip but not enough to pass it as a moustache!

My Dad wasn't able to grow a beard till quite late so I assume I'm going to be the same :(
 
I've tried and failed.

I can grow it almost all over (not as thick on the right as it is on the left) and not much on the cheeks.

It stops growing at around 1cm and just looks pubey, not very thick, just lots of individual pubes on my face.

Compared to last year its 100% better so hopefully in another year or two I can sport a fine beard. Until then, it's shaving time :(
 
I'll revive this thread again seems as im growing mine out again.

Its starting to look rather armish now and also a bit wirey. Can anyone recommend any beard conditioner, a razer for neck and cheeks and beard oil?
