Beat saber

Thanks for the replies im going to go for it. Its a shame there is no choice to buy from overclockers or anywhere else. Its looks like these ship from Holland. I have the week after next as holiday so I'll order On Tues as it shows 4 to 8 working days do I'm guaranteed to be home when it arrives :-). Im playing a lot of Elite Dangerous atm so will bd6 good to see how good that is

A friend who has VR said he didn't enjoy this.

I used to like rhythm games like Rockband on console, this is similar to that, right?
Does not compute!

The only reasons I can imagine anyone not liking BeatSaber is if they have no sense of rhythm at all, or they haven't realised you can download custom tracks. The songs included with the game work really well, but they're not necessarily going to be to someone's taste. But once you get into custom songs the breadth of choice is massive.

Facebook/Oculus just acquired Beat Games, the makers of Beat Saber. - Link

Interesting part of their announcement:
What does this mean for the modding community?
We understand and appreciate the value that modding brings to Beat Saber when done so legally and within our policies. We’re going to do our best to preserve the value that mods bring to the Beat Saber player base. As a reminder, our most recent policy updates give more clarity to how developer mode is intended to be used, such as helping developers build their apps or for enthusiasts to explore new concepts. It is not intended for engaging in piracy or illicit modding, including mods that infringe on third-party IP rights or contain malicious code.

Some people are worried that Oculus will stop custom songs working so they are blocking updates to their beat saber install. If you want to do this as well, VR_Neuroscience on reddit posted these instructions (I edited formatting for readability).
  • Close steam
  • Open the appmanifest 620980 file in "\SteamLibrary\steamapps" and change:
    • "StateFlag" to 4
      "BytesToDownload" to 0
      "UpdateResult" to 0.
  • Make the file read only

This should make Steam believe that the app is always up to date
Hopefully they won't ruin the game.

This might lead to some better licensing for other tracks. Facebook have a lot more clout.

I'm hoping that as this is now an Oculus studios title that they'll make it crossbuy between Rift and Quest. So I then get the Quest version for free. :D
(Those who bought it on Quest while having the Rift version would get store credit, as they have done previously when the added loads of Go games to the Quest).

Played Beat Saber for the first time today I have to say how addictive it is with a strange feeling of elation and power!

Just got the quest and this on it is amazing. Custom songs works fine and there are loads of mods. So easy to add songs once setup. Had a quick go and quite a step up from the demo.

Although cant stop thinking about Hole in the Wall game show when playing it, that would make a good VR game.

The hole in wall game was great fun on the Kinect. Wouldn't work with the VR at the moment as you would need full body tracking. The shapes you could do would be very limited.

Thought I'd got the hang of this game, getting into the top 1000 or 2000 on Normal and Hard with some songs, moved up to expert and it's just too quick for my mind to process!

There's a steam title that supports about 6 trackers that does exactly that with the daft body shaping. I can't remember the name, but it exists:)

For people new to the game, look up custom tracks by Major Pickle. Most of the stuff he's done is just pure awesome.

You can avoid the walls just by leaning and moving your head I've found.

Can mostly do expert level songs now after about 3 months of on/off practice - gradually things that seemed impossible become possible!

Found it. 'OhShape' https://store.steampowered.com/app/1098100/OhShape/

'OhShape is a rhythm VR game where players have to move their full body to go through, punch or dodge walls following the beat of the music. It's an immersive game for all type of players inspired by the Japanese TV show Hole in the Wall..

:D
