Bebox or Be connection problem?

Yea the BT engineer who fitted my parents broadband used cat5e as an extension upstairs, works a charm.

Any decent quality twisted pair cable will do, or you could use it to connect the router and your machine...

If you want to move to a new router than i'd suggest the DG834GT as the wireless is much better than the Bebox and the latest firmware brings in some great stability to Be users. Fastpath also works perfectly with the new firmware so you'll be syncing closer to 17mb i would expect with the netgear :)

I 'lofted' my DG834GT after realising my wireless network problems (devices not connecting/losing connection) were solved by using my BeBox.

Also on test pings to game servers, I was 2-3 better on the BeBox than the Netgear...

Do Be* engineers have the ability to get on the bebox without my knowledge? I ask because i swear mine keeps losing its port forwarding settings.

See thats what i thought, this is the 3rd time its happened now :|

Sat at work and i can't vpn home!

I can VNC to my home machine no problems... You say settings are changing on your router? Then if it's not you, it's the firmware or someone else...

If you think someone else is connecting, wouldn't the logs show that?

ps: Have you set an administrator password on your router?

No i havent really done anything on my bebox, just setup the port fowarding and disabled a few of the services, i need to go through and spend some time locking it down though but for the time being i'm not "that" fussed as my wrt54g sits behind the bebox and handles the actual network.

In actual fact, is there a ethernet modem i can use with my be line?

You can use any modem on your beline as long as:-
1) It's ADSL2, and can have the same settings as the BeBox
2) You can set its MAC address (to the BeBox's one)

I used my NetGear DG834GT for a while, but reverted to the (free) BeBox to improve (yes improve) my wireless network and improve (yes improve) my latency/ping.

BTW - I assume you just have the VNC 'template' thingy associated against your machine?

The BeBox is beautiful for port forwarding. Want a FTP server? Just add the FTP 'template' thingy to the appropriate machine. Want VNC? Just add the VNC 'template' thingy to the appropriate machine... Very slick!

I created a new template called everything and port forward 0 - 55555 to my 2nd router (ddwrt linksys) which handles all the port forwarding.

Maybe it didn't lose the settings as i just got home and once again the internet had dropped out, fs.

i had some similar issues with regards to manual config changes i had made - e.g. port forwarding, and also changing the channel that the wifi used away from all the other routers in my area. port forwarding changes were either lost, or more strangely they were still there but just pointing to a different resource inside the network. the wifi always went back to channel 11. i always used to turn off my bebox when not in use. i have, however, left my dg834g on since i installed it (granted only the day before yesterday) but it just seems better! time will tell!

ok still having massive teething problems with this DG834GT, after flashing back to a older firmware (due to me getting random disconnects and lag spikes in game cs 1.6) i am now experiencing no disconnects but i'm still getting a random lag spike where my ingame ping/latency will go up to 150+ i get this probably 2-3times every 5mins!

what should i do? i'm thinking of trying the uberGT firmware but will it solve this problem?
