Been out the game. What CPUs are coming up?

Thanks for all the input guys. What I'm going to do is wait for zen 4, to both see how it performs and to drop 5xxx prices maybe. but probably will buy a 5xxx cpu anyway. Drop in "itch scratch". New GPU next year. Zen 4 in 2024. Sound ok?
Buy a 5800X 3D and wait, Zen 4 is going to be way more expensive. Bet the motherboards themselves will be substantially more expensive.

5xxx won't drop in price - the chips will just go EoL, and prices will stay stagnant until stock depletes (as people grab them for a last cheaper upgrade)

Buy now or not at all imo - £100 for an upgrade still seems cheap in this day and age, and means you can avoid any day 1 issues with Zen4, wait for prices/availability to stabilise (and indeed the mid range boards etc released)

The only sensible plan in reality, AM4 isn't going anywhere for a good while so 5xxx parts will be around longer than most would expect, and you'll have your pick of cheap used parts as well once people upgrade, as you know some people love to sell on perfectly good 5800X or 3D after they get a shiny new 7900X or something.

I would say as you are aiming towards a pure gaming use case then, depending on resolution, perhaps the money maybe well spent on a GPU upgrade assuming you are at 1440P+ with high refresh. It'd be Zen5 likely in 2024. :)

So for near pure gaming use case, at 1440p, with an RTX3080.
Out of 5800x 5900x 5800x3D.

Most people say 5800x? If I sell my CPU it will only end up costing me ~£100

And are these literally a drop in replacement? no bios messing about?

5800X the most cost effective, 5800X3D is fastest for pure gaming

On X570 Taichi
5800X or 5900X is a drop in if you have bios version at least 3.40 (although of course recommended to update to latest)
5800X3D needs the latest 4.80 bios update

Thank you. Very consice! I'll upgrade mobo regardless. think im on 4.xx anyway.
Will go for 5800x

I could wait. true. But then I will get over excited about the new shiny 7xxx and start convincing myself I need it.
If I buy now I will let that launch wash over me. If that makes sense.

Sell the mobo and keep the cash? It depends on if the motherboard has any features that are considered indispensable.

I would avoid the ASRock budget boards though, they are trash. Also, 6 core CPUs don't need a really good VRM (except, maybe for 5ghz overclocks...)

The Taichi is one of the few good ASrock boards though.

They tend to focus all of their efforts into the Taichi range and then let the rest of the range get pulled along by the good reviews of that board.

I won't touch them tho because they hate the honesty of Hardware Unboxed and won't send them review samples anymore. Just poor attitude.

But those "cheap LGA1700 DDR4 mobo" are nowhere near as good as the OP's existing X570 Taichi...

I don't get this argument either.

The cheapest B660 i could find is this complete pile of crap, that would bring the 12400F + this board to £260, the 5800X £270.

If he sells the board he might be £40 better off but be on a really crappy board.

If he wants to save a bit of money get the 5700X, its the same CPU as the 5800X with slightly lower clocks, and £40 cheaper. You can clock it up to a 5800X if you're that bothered about the 200Mhz.

Yes. This. BuY a WhOLe nEw rIg.

Money not really an issue right now (have a few grand saved up in the PC fund). But certainly don't want to throw it away! reading between the lines the 5800x seems a good itch scratcher.
