Been out the game. What CPUs are coming up?

Sorry to bump this up but just wanted to revist this now that the new Ryzen are out.
I'm still looking for an upgrade to scratch and itch but not spend a fortune. is a 5800x still a good shout in the face of new releases? Drop in replacement anyway. Then next year new GPU, than 2024 new mobo, CPU, RAM.

Yep still sounds like a great shout, especially if you are planning for a full rebuild in 2024 - new boards will be out by then, as well as faster/cheaper DDR5 and at least 1 newer generation of Ryzen on AM5.

You could consider a 12600k (used) for around £250, plus a H610 motherboard for about £80.

Or see if 12th gen CPU prices drop when the 13th gen launches.

You could drop in a 5800X3D and for gaming you could even potentially skip AM5 completely, or at the very least it will last you for another 3-5 years. AM5 is horrifically expensive and it just not required for gaming right now or for the forseeable future.

I mean your situation is literally the textbook example of a perfect upgrade to the 5800X3D. Enjoy the additional 5 years or more of life that you are going to breathe into your system.
Certainly with 4K becoming more common, an excellent CPU is going to last further.

Look at people who already have an i7 8700K. Just add a better GPU and you’re sorted.
