Belinea 102035W

phoned maxdata today and they are swapping my monitor monday at my place of work for another brand new one. When I gave him the serial number he said the monitor was built on the 29 / 11 / 05, he was suprised there was an issue with the backlight because the monitor was so new, he asked me to make sure the monitor was in its original packaging etc as it would be swapped for another brand new one.

I asked him if the monitor was older would they just take the monitor away and swap it, he said they swap the monitor with a refurb tested monitor of a similar age.

Is this standard practise? I assumed they swapped out monitors with refurbs but wasnt sure they swapped them for similar age ones etc.

Love this monitor apart from the backlight issue.

Nothing really, just fancied Widescreen and ive moved the VP to a second machine.

How does it compare to the vp191b? Specifically for gaming and also contrast levels?

Well, I've jsut set it up and the good news is no dead pixels whatsoever!!!

Downloaded DeadPixelBuddy and it showed nowt. The bad news is that one of the program's functions is turning the screen fully black and this did rather obviously show up some bad backlight bleed in all four corners. it also shows that the black level is pretty poor generally - I used a calibration utility (Spyder Pro) which said to reduce brightness till all 4 shades of black were only just distinguishable and even on the lowest setting they were all pretty bright.

I'm not sure if this is worth changing the monitor over as lots of people seem to be experiencing it and I wouldn't want another one which had bleed AND dead pixels.

I don't suppose there's any setting (maybe a service menu) that lets you manually reduce the strength of the backlight is there? That might solve the bleed and black level issues.

I'm going to try it on some games and see if it really bothers me so will hold off till then.

Other than that the thing looks gorgeous and I love it. One thing I can't find is how to 'center' the images to prevent scaling. i can't find the option in the OSD.

Hmmm, this aint looking good on the backlight bleeding issue is it. Another person with the same problem.
I'll see what my next one is like, if it's the same I will just have to lump it I guess. I am willing to take the chance though as I have a minor defect right in the centre of the screen too, not a dead pixel, more like a tiny grey splodge.

I've found that reducing the monitor brightness setting to really low like 15, and having contrast at 100 helps a bit but not much. I find brightness anything over 50 too bright and stark anyway to be honest, makes me squint.

Scousegit - regarding the exchange with Belinea/Maxdata - if it's less than 30 days old since you bought it, which it is, they should exchange it for a brand new one. They call it a DOA exchange. After 30 days you are likely to get a refurb. That's what I was told anyway...

Been playing FEAR and even in the really dark areas (where you're supposed to use the flashlight) it's perfectly bright. Is that normal with TFTs? (this is my first). I've adjusted the gamma in game, which seems to help but it's still not all that dark.

Additionally I've noticed that when flickering effects appear onscreen (FEAR's flashing fluorescent lights for example) there are visible lines across the monitor as the light bands flicker on and off (its' hard to explain). Again, not having used a TFT before is this to be expected?

If it weren't for my backlight/blackness issues I'd say this monitor is absolutely perfect, it's absolutely crystal clear and watching films is a truly great experience... as long as the screen doesn't get too dark :p .

This is known as "tearing." I have a CRT, but you should be able to fix it if you enable V-Sync.

good program that deadpixel buddy, does anyone know of a program similar to Spyder Pro that is free?

as spyder pro is not shareware or freeware.

thanks..

Thanks Fluff_eei, that seems to have fixed the tearing nicely. Now if only I could make the blacks in game darker than a washed out gray. Out of curiosity what Brightness/contrast settings does everyone else with this monitor use?

Very well indeed,

i noticed some very slight ghosting in F.E.A.R with the VP191b, but i have yet to notice any with the Belinea.

The backlight bleed is about the same as the VP and certainly no worse.

Iluka,
The dark areas also seem dark to me, i would say the blacks are pretty good, although the backlight does show slightly.

I havent made one single adjustment and i dont think i am going to bother either, like i said earlier i was sceptical about this moniter for gaming , but i can highly recommend it now :)

Hi guys,

what video cards run at 1680 x 1050? i have a Geforce 6600, it doesn't list that mode, the closest i have is a 1600x 1200. am i looking in the wrong place? i'm looking at the mode listing in the adapter properties.

thanks

Wunkley, do you know when your new one is arriving? I'd be interested to know if your replacement clears up the bleeding and the black levels any.

Oh and spb251272, how did you set the image to be centered not stretched? I've looked through the OSD and couldn't find it. I have an X800 GTO and there's an option in the ATI control panel to use a centred image instead of stretching but that doesn't seem to have any effect.

Played some Doom 3 late last night, it was very grey indeed, even when it's supposed to be pitch black. I know it's not a CRT but I did hope the blacks would be... well, blacker. I'm playing around with the settings in my GFX card options for reducing gamma and brightness directly through the card. Hopefully that will help.

Iluka, I used the nvidia display settings to change the aspect settings. there was four options - standard scaling (using gfx card to scale); monitor scaling (uses the monitors algorithms to scale); centered (only displays pixels of resolution chosen); and fixed ratio (scales vertically, but not horizontally).

I don't have any experience with ATI so can't help you there, although it should be something similar. There's definitely nothing inb the OSD.

Just a thought, are you using VGA or DVI? I am using DVI, so could be that it's only possible with DVI??

I'm using DVI. Will investigat the ATI control panel still further. I might try the unofficial Omega drivers instead as those often have more options. Cheers though.

Hi All,

I've been watching this thread with interest for days! Anyway it made me go and buy one!
Have any of you guys had problems with City-Link's so call Next Day Delivery? My monitor was sent on Monday due for delivery on Tuesday but arrived on Wednesday, OK not a major issue I guess but if you pay for next day then surely that's what you should expect. I would quite happily pay a little more for a more reliable currier.
Anyway enough of my whingeing,.. The Belinea 102035W is great, apart from a small amount of backlight bleed but not enough to bother me, but most of all no dead pixels which is what I was mostly worried about. DOD2 & CS Source plays really well at 1680 x 1050 using DVI and my 6800ultra, no obvious sign of ghosting. Images are clear and sharp, Very pleased! I highly recommend this monitor!......

Hi Jebbers, glad you're pleased with it (and well done on no dead pixels!). How have you found the black levels? Have you played anything like Doom 3 or FEAR that requires really dark areas of the screen? I'm beginning to wonder whether it's just me as I'm coming from a CRT and have never had an LCD before.

I had issues with my monitor being delivered, They never attempted to deliver on the day it was supposed to be delivered. I went to there depot at 8am the next day to pick it up because I did not want to wait another day.

I send a webnote to overclockers informing them of what happened and they apologised and have refunded me the carriage costs.

You could inform them of what happened and see if you get your carriage costs back.

I ordered mine late on Wednesday night and it arrived on Friday which is spot on.

I am away at the moment but my dad received the monitor and tells me that there are no dead pixels, and with background set to black there is no overly noticeable bleeding. Sounds good - can't wait to check it out.
