Benifets to be a pirate gamer :(

Home consoles i dont mind paying for, i know the wii can be chipped, but i dont mind buying games for it.
You can play downloaded games on a DS and not touch a thing on the console what so ever, the PSP is just as easy and the games arent exactly difficult to find.
I find it hard to believe that most peopple havent got some sort of downloaded content on their computer

XBL is only £24 a year if you know where to look, getting a game 2 days before release? Whoopie Do !

But lets just say that if his xbox goes pop, Microsoft won't repair it.

I remember seeing GTA 4 on rapidshare, it was a 64 parts in 100m file ! I'd rather pay £40 and get legit than download all that, too much hassle.

theres more to life than rapidshare for a start.

Yes. There's no benefit to buying second hand over pirating a game (apart from owning the physical packaging/manual - however that is down to personal preference), the developer and publishers don't see a penny either way.

The argument is true, but its not the same, you could argue that second hand cars make no money for the manufacturer.

How is it not?

The game developers and publisher don't see any of the money and it all goes to the 2nd hand game shop. Making a profit off someone elses work.

The reason people buy it is because it is cheaper, Buying a Brand New game for £40 a pop is hard, i can totally understand if someone is a kid, but when you can actually afford a game their is something wrong.

I dont understand why companies can charge so much for a game. I quite like that many Wii titles are about £18 - £25 new which seems about reasonable. But anything over £40 is stupidly overpriced.

I pay for whats good anything i am unsure about gets bought second hand, thats how i feel about it anyway.

but when you can actually afford a game their is something wrong.

Why? because people don't like wasting money? I buy most games, dvds, music, hardware second hand. The people selling it then use money to buy new items.

2nd hand and piracy is not even in the same ball park.

the price difference for console games is due to the hardware being subsidised by the games, like the phone is on a contract, and every game sold has a royalty that goes to the console manufacturer.

aren't no cd patches illegal as they circumvent data protection?

The government make victimless crimes at every opportunity so naturally they are illegal.

Backup is illegal in the UK, although it is changing in the near future.

Backup of software is not illegal in the uk.

Computer programs: lawful users

"Back up copies.
50A.—(1) It is not an infringement of copyright for a lawful user of a copy of a computer program to make any back up copy of it which it is necessary for him to have for the purposes of his lawful use.

(2) For the purposes of this section and sections 50B and 50C a person is a lawful user of a computer program if (whether under a licence to do any acts restricted by the copyright in the program or otherwise), he has a right to use the program.

(3) Where an act is permitted under this section, it is irrelevant whether or not there exists any term or condition in an agreement which purports to prohibit or restrict the act (such terms being, by virtue of section 296A, void).

By that rationale selling anything second hand would be immoral, which is clearly absurd. No second hand cars? Second hand clothes? Second hand books?

Once you buy something, you can sell it to anyone you like for any amount you like. There's no copyright infringement going on, so there's no problem.

So buying a 2nd hand car or a 2nd hand house should be illegal as well. what a stupid thought.

Never knew there was a clause specifically for computer programs. Thought it was the same as music and films.
