Benq FP241W (Now available from OcUK!!!!!)

Looks like Dell are taking advantage of this delay by dropping the price of the 2407 to the point where (even with it's known shortcomings) it's making the decision to buy/wait for a fp241w a lot more difficult.

Anyone get the feeling Dell are trying to tempt indecisive Benq buyers so that they can sell off stocks of the 2407 before the fp241w launches ;)

Come on Benq - Save us from being sent to Dell for all eternity - release the monitor(s) :D

This monitor certainly looks interesting, I might try to get one eventually once i've heard peoples reviews of it. I'm hoping it will be good for watching films on and since it supports HDMI, it offers me the chance to use a standalone player with it :)

Im giving in... i had wanted to buy five of the same panel... however, im just gonna get myself a 2407, and if i like it i will buy another 4, if i dont i will wait and get 4 of the benq's. Colour reproduction is quite important to me, so i cant imagine the 2407 will suit my needs, but a man can only wait for something for so long. Benq need to die.

thing that bugs me is that ocuk have my money till it comes in stock!

Wait a sec, did you pre-order it? Do ocuk take money out before hand on preorder items?

i agree... although they did specify a date of release that then changed (also the case with the 2407)

It supply and demand, people want the product therefore will pay a higher price at first and will wait

Dell seen that it has now competition and maybe that why we are seen price dropping on the 2707WFP

Will there even be a "Z" version anymore???

I could find no mention of it on the Benq website...
Jimmy from Benq stated in this thread(few pages back) that it will be coming out a month after the standard model.

yep they do! does my head in but i guess i wont spend the money on anything else and in the meen time i can be paying it back off! got it on the cred card ya cee  couldnt resist

Why on earth doesn't this monitor provide 1:1 pixel mapping on any input? PC use at other resolutions may work OK for some people, but that's thanks to nvidia's nice drivers and nothing to do with the monitor.

Everything else is going to get distorted or cropped.. This alone goes some way to spoiling what could have been the perfect display..

Dayum!! Isn't that a tad unprofessional on ocuks part, you'd expect them to ask for a deposit of some sort like game shops do with pre-ordering games consoles. Guess it's a way of generating sales early on cos people have less chance of changing their minds if all the money is out of their accounts already?

It's the only thing stopping me from pre-ordering one from ocuk!
After advice from other forum go-ers here and a bit of investigation I've decided that this is my next large-ish purchase, would love to pre-order one but with the risk of further delay I'm afraid that £650 is just too much to give upfront.

I'm in the same boat, whats pushing me over the edge from just desire for a larger srceen to actual need to switch from my CRTs are the extra inputs. However with both the Dell and Benq having failings in this respect and being unable to find any reviews of the Samsung that include an assesment of the extra inputs (plus fear of the 245t arriving out of the blue) I'm kind of stuck.

This 1:1 pixel mapping thing is the only thing stopping me from buying this monitor. I have no issue with it on the PC side of things but in regards to plugging in an xbox360 or dvd player, the image will be upscaled in anything other than 1080p, but thats not an issue as it will retain the aspect ratio. What happens if you play a 4:3 game (not likely im sure) or watch a 4:3 dvd (a possibility if watching old classics) as I am sure the dvd player/xbox360 will output at a 4:3 res, so the image will be stretched, correct?

Sure is. I thought it was not quite right under the distance selling regs, if not it is one other reason i never pre-order kit from the cash cow that is OCuk.
having said that they seem to be cheaper on quite a few items, including the monitor i want to buy.

Even 1080p stuff would get stretched vertically. 1080p is 1920x1080 (16:9) but the screen is physically 1920x1200 (16:10). There's no way 16:9 sources (everything but PC, basically) can keep their aspect ratio intact when filling out the whole screen. The Benq rep that visted OCUK (I think) mentioned earlier in the thread was clearing talking rubbish.

This monitor really should have the options to
1. stretch to full size of the panel
2. stretch as much as possible whilst keeping the aspect ratio intact (good for sources less than 1080p. e.g. 720p, 4:3 stuff)
3. not to stretch at all. (good for pixel perfect 1080p goodness, pixel perfect low-res stuff that you don't mind having big borders with)

Very likely with a lot of hardware.. It'd look nasty..

So the fact that its being touted as the worlds first HDMI panel is kind of defunkt as its, in all intents and purposes, useless? Sure it can handle the input but if the image is stretched or not as originally intended, then its pretty useless. How could they miss something like this? It seems very silly to me.
