BenQ XL2730Z Freesync Owners Thread

how long did it take DPD or Repairtech to contact you after BenQ sent the RMA number and the instructions for sending the screen back? Are they likely to come out unannounced or will I need to do some legwork ie ringing Repairtech?

thx in advance

Well i waited just over 24hrs and still didn't have a response ,so i email repairtech with my BenQ Rma Number telling them that no one had yet contacted me to arrange collection .

The next day i had recived a email from RepairTech asking me if the next day would be ok and that DPD would be coming to collect.

Also my monitor arrived back at my house this morning , but i did get a text until afternoon to tell me it was being delivered today . It tuck 5 working days from them receiving it to get it back to me

I have the XL2410T if that helps.
Cannot make a comparison, because XL2730Z is a different class on it's own.

Colours, blacks, picture quality, miles better.

Tbh if you have given me money back and asked me to choose between IPS, VA or TN, I will get the XL2730Z again.

Thanks guys, all your comments are super helpful actually - I don't think the calibration reports in reviews give a real word comparison of what the user sees and feels.

Need to make my mind up between this and the Asus MG279Q!

If only I could see and test them side-by-side before buying! ;)

Right ive just have to report this ,, before i sent my monitor back i had just started Far Cry 4 DLC valley of the Yetis , and didnt play it on my old screen as i wanted to wait until i had this one back as i love the 144hz ,,,, i've just spent the last 15 min going OMG the difference in colours and sharpness with the updated firmware whilst in game is vast , at first i thought to myself its just placebo ,but no no no after playing for 15min , there is defo a massive improvement in picture quality .

I wonder if it would be possible for someone to get the change log for the updated firmware ,, maybe Badass could do this , i would love to see it ..... :)

Please report back when you have had the update to see if your findings are the same as mine and Panos ... thanks

Looks like they changed the low level color calibration settings or presets.
Someone would have to actually test the different picture modes side by side to see exactly what was changed or if the "color vibrance" setting was tweaked but this would be much easier with an actual Bin dump and someone with debugging knowledge.

If that wasn't possible, I think someone would have to -dump- and debug the firmware in order to list the precise changes. Benq won't say anything about changes that are not "critical" fixes. I even asked them on the phone directly why they didn't put V4 up (for their older Z series) on their website for download, instead of only V2, and they said that the input lag was 'slightly' higher in V4 than V2 (I can't tell a difference!). I did get them to remove the "Now with V2 firmware!" notice on their web shop, however (since all current shipping units have V4).

There's no changelog for what was changed in V4 except someone being told by Benq that it fixes displayport loss of signal bug (true), but they didn't tell anyone the other things it fixed: 1) the Single Strobe service menu setting not affecting refresh rates 100+ and higher, when before V4 it incorrectly affected 100+hz (undocumented bugfix) and 2) Two Extra (1 each) AMA high and AMA premium settings made only for Blur Reduction mode which reduce overshoot drastically (high) and slightly (premium) (undocumented feature).

can someone test something for me?
can you use blur reduction at 120hz and do the following?

1) Run this test fullscreen.
http://www.testufo.com/#test=photo&photo=alien-invasion.png&pps=960&pursuit=0&height=-1

(Use 120hz refresh rate for best results).

2) Turn blur reduction OFF then set AMA to high Turn OFF Freesync.

3) Enable blur reduction and look very carefully and precisely at the ghosting/overshoot pattern and intensity.

4) With MBR already on, toggle AMA high by selecting it and pressing "Back" or change it to off or premium then back to high (this ensures the toggle takes effect).

Is there any change to the overdrive balance/ghosting/inverse ghosting?

Spoke to BenQ Tuesday last week. Got the RMA code Wednesday for collection Thursday between 8 and 16 from work.

However DPD somehow missed to pick up the parcel even if they visited the building on 3 different occasions. Raised that to BenQ at 15:30, and they told me that DPD made a mistake and offering to pick up at 20:00 or next day.

Contacted BenQ and they picked it up next day from my house. (Friday)

Monitor delivered on Monday noon at Repairtech. And Wednesday night got notification from them the monitor is on the way, and got it today.

Assuming someone ships his monitor on a Monday, might have it back for Friday. (but for legal reasons the monitor turnout is 7-10 days).

As for notifications. At every stage, I received SMS from Repairtech informing me about the DPD status when they are coming to pick it up, and when is going to be delivered.

All in all, overall extremely happy, and any worries that had initially, fueled by horror stories from others where unfounded. Something unfortunately that cannot be said about ASUS or LG and their subcontractors.

All in all TOP Quality service for both Repairtech and BenQ.

And if it is any BenQ rep around should take into notice.

Thats my experience, possibly too enthusiastic fueled by the very positive changes to my monitor with the V002 firmware, and possibly because I was using for a week my old XL2410T.......

I believe Jason, going to come to the same conclusion......

@ Jason, I know how you feel about Farcry 4. TESO looks much much better and words cannot describe it other than by saying "screen looks crystal clear" even if not crystals are involved here..........

EVE Online also looks "different". The crisper textures pulled out details on big ships, that I never realised they were there and I play that game since 2004

Will you be updating your review to reflect these changes badass and PCM2?

I won't be testing the changes as I don't really have time for that at the moment nor do I have an XL2730Z with me. Plus it has no bearing on FreeSync itself and what that alone brings to the table. I already have a detailed analysis of the gaming performance with 'AMA High' and FreeSync disabled, so you should know what to expect from that.

I will update the review to note the changes once they are confirmed and solid. That is to say people can be confident of getting a revised version both here and Stateside if buying new from a big retailer.

Nice, just got my RMA authorisation email. I've still got the original boxes to use and I know I should send any of the cables etc back but did you guys send the stand or not?

Sorry, I didn't mean the freesync/AMA changes, I meant these other changes that people are mentioning, better colours, sharper/clearer text & image etc.

But yeah, even an updated change log would be nice :)

Just the monitor. Nothing else. No stands or cables.

Doh, missed the 'not' in my first message about the cables etc. Thanks Panos, I'll get just the panel packed up then, will be a painful few days going back to crap 1080p/60 for a few days.

As far as I'm aware no changes were made beyond allowing AMA to be used with FreeSync. Anybody mentioning superior image quality was likely using different settings in the OSD, perhaps without realising. Or perhaps the default colour temperature in 'Standard' is now better than it was, but that varies between units. My review makes it very clear that, once set up correctly, there is little a new revision of this monitor could have done to enhance image quality. Unless the panel itself is changed!

Yeah that is what I thought too, essentially just a better/more plreasing out of the box calibration, would be pretty good if they have swapped out the panel for one with a lighter AG coating :p

just got my email back from BenQ/RepairTech this morning, collection will be on Monday by DPD all free of charge. Hopefully they can turn it around and I'll have it back by Friday for the weekend and a new FuryX will be in my possession as well :)

So is the general feeling on this to get the firmware update?

Have had the screen for about a month and have been pleased with its performance as it is so was going to leave it but seems that people are impressed with the changes resulting from the update.
